    Ultramarathon runner here: I stress-fractured both pubic rami secondary to imbalance having not regained full flexibility in the ankle of the other leg after a broken ankle the previous year. I used crutches for a week, rested (no running, no cycling, minimal walking) for a further 5 weeks (I swam arms-only with a pull buoy to help my legs float). Started running again after 7 weeks, built up gradually and no problems.

    I fell off my bike and fractured my post inferior ramis a week ago today. It was EXCRUCIATING, but thank God it is a stable fracture. I have yet to start physical therapy. I spend 23 hours in bed a day because it is VERY painful getting in and out of bed or sitting on the toilet. Getting around in crutches is exhausting and painful. The same with a walker. I couldn't fathom riding a bike in three months, let alone two weeks.
    Excellent video, by the way. I'm now taking Paracetamol instead...

    Yes!!! This is what I’ve been trying to explain to my army doctor! I slammed my pubic ramis 7 months ago and I’ve been having sharp pain in my groin, lower back, and left leg (entire left side) and it’s super sharp when I run! When I walk over 15 mins the aching pain comes back. They don’t believe me or even try to understand my situation! They keep giving me naproxen, ibuprofen, etc!! And I keep telling them it’s not helping. Physical therapy isn’t helping either. Until today, my injury has still not healed. Sooooo stressful. I got so emotional watching this because she actually knows what she is talking about and explained everything soooo accurately! The only weird thing about this situation is that when I had a bone scan done it showed all my fractures, however when I did an mri it came back smack dab normal! I am sooo confused and so are my doctors.

      Scans are not always reliable with this and it also depends on the quality of the MRI scanner. Best of luck for your recovery x m

      Hi Jennie, I had a rotator cuff repair surgery in January and within a week I started getting severe sharp pain in my right side pelvic
      Turns out I have osteoporosis.

      I'm tired of the nagging pain 😢

    I've been diagnosed with this stress fracture. I'm in the military and I've been to Physical therapy, using crutches, offloading the usual work load and the pain is only increasing and spreading. I've been increasing vitamin D and looking at my diet for quick healing. It's been about a year since the initial pain started and I'm not sure what to do next. Also, Thank you for your knowledge, it was mighty helpful!

    • @pawpaw7646
      @pawpaw7646 Před 3 měsíci

      MRI is excellent for diagnosis of ischial, pubic and sacral stress fractures (aka insufficiency fractures). Contrast infusion is NOT needed and not helpful.

    Think about the activities of life: I packed up a huge house for move. Everyone said "use your legs to lift". So repetitively squating to life boxes and twisting to put them on top of something. For five yrs. I had Dx of piriformis syndrome, sacroilleitis etc with PT and multiple injections. I think there is too little emphasis on repetitive injuries of or ordinary life causing stress fractures.

    Broke my pelvis like this from a motorcycle accident . I healed fine and was able to walk around, kneel, squat , normally without any problem. Like nothing ever happened.
    Until I went back to work as a waitress. After 3 weeks of working my regular schedule, I’m now currently sitting on my couch, and back to using my crutches because it feels very uncomfortable to walk again 😔.

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  Před rokem +2

      ☹It was likely a too sudden increase in load - once you're ready to go back, see if you can work only half your schedule in a day and take at least 6 weeks to get back to the normal load. This will help the bones to gradually grown stronger until it can tolerate the full load for the full time.

      Any fracture has the potential to alter gait because we tend to adapt how we walk when we're in pain and that then become learned behaviour - sometimes it can cause weaknesses that also contribute

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  Před měsícem

      We very rarely injury both sides of our body at the same time - think about it - you tend to pull one calf muscle or break on arm etc. It is more common for just one side to be injured rather than both because we always tend to use one side of our bodies more than the other.

      It sounds like you may have a tendon injury - it does not sound like a bone injury because that would get worse as you run. Get it assessed by a physio and they can help you figure out how to adapt you training to maintain fitness but help your injury recover.
      If you wanted help with your rehab and an exercise plan, this is something that our team of physios can assess and help you with via video call. You can read more about how the online consultations work here: www.sports-injury-physio.com/services

    It seriously hurts in this area. I run about 9 miles every morning. I was finishing up running one morning, I felt a sharp pain in this area. after I had to suddenly stopped for 7 days after a 30 day streak. By the 7th day the pain was all gone. I succeeded on my first attempt back after a week (6miles) that’s all I was able to run, As the run progressed, the pain grew more, I was in terrible, unbearable pain. it gets too tight. I can't loosen it. My left leg seemed to get shorter with each stride. I can kind of feel me hobbling around the track, my engine had even more power but I was forced to stop It's not so much the pain thing, but the limited movement in my leg

      It really sounds as if you need to take time out from running and allow it to heal properly - if you act now, your recovery time will be shorter than if you continue to try and run with it. Get it assess so you know what you're dealing with and what is needed for recovery.
