Resolve Missing SATA Mode Operation on Asus Laptops UEFI BIOS
Vložit

- With 11th generation Intel equipped laptops, there is no SATA Mode Operation setting in the UEFI BIOS. This setting has been effectively replaced by VMD Control.
VMD stands for Volume Management Device.
Disabling VMD controller effectively sets SATA Mode Operation to AHCI while enabling VMD effectively sets SATA Mode Operation to RAID/RST.
Disabling VMD is alternative solution to no disk found error during Windows installation process. Rather than loading driver which may not be possible with a limited internet connection, a change to the UEFI can happen instead.
Laptop shown in video is a A416 which is also known in some regions as the X415. ᅠᅠ

YOU SAVE MY LIFE. Work on Desktop Asus too. Searching info for all the places, asking a lot of people, publicating It in forums ... Nobody got the solution, no one except you. My savior. I am from Spain, come here one day and let me invite you to drink something!
Bro I just bought brand new laptop and I was figuring out this thing like three hours until I saw your video😭 thank you man 😭❤❤
You save my day, I never saw this problem before on an Asus laptop, I was looking to set the controller mode to AHCI but was not able to find it anywhere and that was because does not show up with that name in the BIOS instead was the VMD setup menu, after I disabled it I was able to see the drive during the installation process, THANKS A LOT!!!
Man. Thanks for this! I was likewise trying to install Windows and, same as you, no drive was detected. I was like what the heck?!?!? So I decided it was likely due to the Sata Operation Mode, but couldn't find it anywhere. You saved me hours. Glad I found you video quickly.
Thank you so much for this, words can't express how I was contemplating taking it to a pc repair place, buying a new drive, reinstalling windows. Much appreciated 🙏
Here another one whose life you've saved. In my case I was trying to install Ubuntu 18.04 on my Asus TUF Gaming F15. It came without OS so I though it was going eaaaaasy to install it but it wasn't detecting my hard drive so I could never keep going with the installation. And all tutorials where telling me to go to SATA options but anybody was telleing where it actually was. Thanks a lot man, totally helpful. ❤
You sir are a legend. I suspected it had something to do with AHCI but couldn't figure it out. Abomination indeed! ASUS tech support was no help at all. I've spent *hours* trying to find the right combination of search criteria to find anything helpful...your video did the trick!
This solved a my huge problem. I have invested more than 5 hours to find the solution of it and just found from your video. Thank you very much to uploading such video.
OMG, been working hard to solve this issue for like 3 months until I saw your video......really appreciate you.
Thanks you 💚
Thank you, You're a life savior. I just got Asus Zenbook 14x and had the same issue with Samsung 970 Evo. I didn't disable VMD controller, I installed "Intel RST VMD driver v20 for Win10-11 x64" (latest) via that load driver button and it worked.
I spent ages looking for this stupid option. Thanks so much!
Absolute legend for this
Hey bro, I just wanted to say thank you for this tutorial, my ssd wasn't working and I thought my computer was fried, and i did this and it all finally started working, I went through two ssd's trying to get it to work, and all I had to do was tick a box :) I didn't expect that, but this helped a lot, thank you.

You’re awesome ❤
Are there problems when turning this option off? I mean, is it safe? Also, what is the purpose of this option?
Hello !!
How are you doing YES Comp ¡?
I have an ASUS VivoBook Max, model: X441BA-CBA6A, I am upgrading the HDD to the SSD, the solid state drive is SATA 3, UP Gamer brand, normal 2.5", new in box, which is recognized in any other Notebook or any desktop PC. / When connecting to the Notebook X441BA, it does not recognize it in any way,
I already changed the Secure Boot to: disable
and also enabled the CSM to: enable,
Date and Time: it's Correct to.
Following the tutorials on your page but it still does not recognize , the version of the bios is the latest, version 308. It only recognizes normal mechanical hard drives but not solid state drives!! What else COULD I do, so that the motherboard recognizes the SSD? ... Grateful in advance ! … A cordial greeting to all !
very helpful, thank you 🙏🙏
Thanks. Helped me!!!
Oh man, thank so much!

Thanks a lot , but who have problem MBR he must convert his disk to gpt :
Open cmd :

2/list disk
3/select disk '0 or 1 the disk '
4/clean
5/convert disk 0 gpt
6/exit
i disabled vmd & mine still won't boot to usb.. it keeps booting to the bios
