Two things:
Weird copyright issues in this episode. So there will be moments where the video is distorted in opacity.
Also, I mentioned this in other videos, but I have two monitors, recording on obs where it shows the same screen. So sometimes I look away but I’m not missing anything because I’m really looking at another monitor of the same screen.
Know what the worst part about Cell absorbing the androids is? They're still alive in there. Soooo the whole time he's alive...yeah..

I figured you _were_ doing that. I was trying to reason why, but could tell from your eyes you were still watching it. Having dual monitors is so nice lol.
One thing I LOVE that TFS did is make the Androids act like ACTUAL teens. 18 is the one who loves shopping and is unimpressed by things she deems lame and geeky like 16s Rocket Punch while 17 is the exact opposite and finds that stuff really cool but also has a huge ego like he’s untouchable.
Oh also the edgy thing where she says "societal definitions of beauty are bs" and 17 being like "you wanna piss off mom and dad?"
@@sumgamesonmyphone9203 I like that 18 says that, but yeah 17 is going out of his way to try wind her up there, which gives off the sibling vibe so much better than the original did.
Right? And they bicker and get on each other’s nerves like real siblings lol
Also the fact that they can't stand country music and wipe it out is very in line with teenager thought lines.
Going to be honest, if I was pursuing someone I had to kill and I came across their closet... I'd totally see if there were fitting clothes. Suki knows.

It's dialogue like this that reminds me why TFS is God tier in the realm of the abridged series!
The "NAILLL GUN" had me crying
Gohan: "MR. PICCOLO WOULD LET ME GO!"
Goku: "No he wouldn't! And he's smarter than me!"
I like his sporadic moments of pure intellect 😭🤣
Yeah, it shows that Goku is just smart enough that he can make good decisions by asking himself what a smarter person would do and acting on that instead of his own ideas.

I wonder if going Super Saiyan had something to do with his intelligence rising slightly. It does make his body larger, so maybe it does the same for his lungs, so he takes in more oxygen, which probably helps improve his brain function, and he slowly begins to retain the increased functionality while not in Super Saiyan form. Just my two cent theory on the matter.

my favorite moment is when goku spaces out and explains how Trunk's version of ss1 is too slow and uses too much energy then kind of returns to reality and cell finishes the point of the speech
One personal level, this is my favourite episode of the series. The great character interactions, the pacing, seeing Android 16 punch, all the great lines.
“How many people?!” “…Enough.”
“A futile effort but if it’s any consolation, that hurt like hell.”
“Hold on, I see a light.” “Walk towards it!”
Next episode has the best line imo.

The "Maybe, but it's mine to make" reaction to C16 telling them it's a bad descision to stay is deeper than the plot device it seems to be.
They're saying that after being a slave to Dr. Gero for who knows how long, they both are making their own descisions now, be they good or bad.

@@junglekxngtalksanime It's because DBZ refers to them all as Cyborgs, only mentioningthat he's fully mechanical once when he's activated with a line like "I wonder why Gero went back to modifying humans when he had the tech to build androids from the ground up" and once more in the fight with cell.

the hand piccolo sinking while Nail and Kami say their goodbyes and play the violin is an easter egg/reference to titanic musicians who as they say goodbye to each other continued to play their instruments while titanic sunk until their last moment.

Here's something terrifying to think about. Cell and Piccolo were on fairly even ground when They fought first. Cell gains power for all life forms he absorbs based on their power. Now Cell trashed Piccolo, and junked 17. This is from absorbing people, who wouldn't amount to much individualy.
How many were killed?

You couldn't possibly fathom the amount of dead men behind Semi-Perfect Cell
Plus Piccolo's arm, which probably gave him a large boost compared to where he was during their first fight.
It does beg the question though, if power levels are supposed to be in the millions by this point and the average human is just 5... seriously how many people did he absorb!?
I’m,pretty sure that instinctively comes to mind from what Piccolo said after the power up. So I think that was omitted already

I love the subtle inspiration for 17 and 18 refusing to listen to orders.
I'm sure it's been mentioned, but I do get goosebumps hearing that line. Not only because it explains the plot convenience of them deciding not to just run, but also because it shows their reaction to having their humanity stolen from them.
Really neat detail. It might be a bad decision, but, importantly, it's theirs to make.

As a Mobile Suit: Gundam Wing fan I freaking LOVED the Gundam sound effects they used for 16.
I have seen this episode a lot. That's my favorite part.
As someone who also grew up with Gundam Wing (the name should make that obvious) these are actually fairly generic anime sound effects.
Sure, those sound effects originate from 'Gundam Wing'....

5:30 actually, no. This is one of my favourite subtle touches in the abridged. Both Androids say "Maybe, but it's mine to make", because they're very protective of their independence after Gero forced them to be what they are, even in the original series. All their villainous actions are that of defiance and not malice. They're pretty bratty after all.
Android 16 has some of the best lines all the way to the end of the series. He will give you chills at least one or 2 more times before the end. He might also bring a tear to your eye
if you didn't catch it, the "b*tch I eat people" line is a reference to abridged Alucard, who is voiced by Takahata101 same as Cell.

Also, Tien wasn't having none of that "wait for Goku and Vegeta to show up crap," like the show is just nothing but those two fighting. Every single one of their male friends is a defender of Earth, even Chiaotzu and Krillin, so Tien being pissed about being treated like a spectator, instead of letting him do his job fighting to protect the planet, is very much understandable. Kick Cell's butt, Tien!
Cell: "Ah Piccolo. He died as he lived."
Android 18: "Drowning ?"
Cell: "Alone."
Watcher: "Wait, he has Kami and Nail in him right ? So technically isn't he NOT alone ?"

I just realized Cell's been able to stealth around because he has Krillin's DNA.
Cliche doesn’t mean bad if it’s done correctly. You can eat 1000 variations of burgers and the only one you’ll get tired of is the one you get from the same place every single time. Doesn’t mean burgers are bad, just means you want something different from it.
That Tien line of "I AM A WARRIOR". Chills man, it gave me chills. If only we have more Humans like that in actual canon.

Funny how Android 16 is the only Android who is ACTUALLY an Android, 17 and 18 are cyborgs, but 16 is entirely mechanical.
19 was also an android. Not quite sure where Gero falls, is he a cyborg? Or merely a brain in an exoskeleton?

A minor but cool fact for anime nerds: the sound effects that Android 16 makes during his fight with Cell are taken directly from the Gundam series (TFS will later lampshade this in one of their Kai episodes).

The first time I saw this episode with my brothers, I don't know what was louder: our laughter, or our applause.
The titanic reference kills me every time
Watched this about 10 times and just now realized they played „Nearer my God to thee“ which the orchestra on the Titanic played while it was sinking
Now that Cell is Semi-Perfect, it's a good time to watch Super Android 13.

The Androids have been controlled by Dr.Gero for so long that they're not going to let anyone tell them what to do anymore, they make their own decisions.

Love the fact that Android 17 said, "Yeah, sure, and I'm a park ranger," so sarcastically, when we all know in Dragon Ball Super, that's exactly what his job is. He's a park ranger protecting an island full of rare animals that poachers, yes even intergalactic ones, want to hunt for sport. He's the only thing keeping these animals alive. So, yeah, he's got an important job.
he also said the park ranger thing in the abridged history of trunks special which was a while before this episode. and the idea of him being a park ranger has been around a LONG time before Abridged. most of the ideas in abridged they got either from old fan theories or actual obscure canon info, like 17 and 18s names being Lapis and Lazuli, or Mr Satan's name being Mark.

7:15 - 7:31: Memory's a little fuzzy on this, but I think in the original anime, Goku actually resorted to punching Gohan unconscious when he tried to leave. So am glad TFS decided to go a different route.
Wait what? I've watched both Z and Kai and I don't recall that... Did the sub or manga have that? I don't recall Goku hitting Gohan outside of training

@@bobmanperson599 I can't say anything about the manga or sub, but I think in at least the old Funimation dub (not quite sure about if Kai has the same problem) had that scene. According to the wiki, the episode that had the scene was 'Silent Warrior'.

The next episode has one of the BEST moments in all of DBZA (in my opinion).
And Cell has finally evolved from being a creepy, perverted, stealthy stalker to a creepy, perverted, violent and abusive stalker that ignores the restraining order. Don't worry. The next form is much better, and far more likeable. He's, well, Perfect. As is his singing voice.
Tbh Imperfect Cell is one of the best character in dbza.
