    As a longtime GTA fan, I started out with GTA 3 and Vice City and everything afterward.
    However, when I got my first computer I was obsessed with looking up everything about the franchise, from screenshots to beta trailers and game mods, and I still look up the official fan Wiki on occasion. That is when I first discovered how it all started and even downloaded demos to GTA 2 and Midnight Club II, before playing those titles in full.
    While it may feel janky and clunky compared by today's standards, there's a certain charm to it.

      Matthew Cool I started with San Andreas. Which is by far my favourite, but that could be nostalgia talking.
      But I was happy to find the “three pack” on the PS store and got the first three GTA games and you’re right. By today’s standards they’re a bit jerky (even SA is not as smooth control wise.) But there’s this sort of old school charm to them.

    • @mattc2306
      @mattc2306 Před 4 lety +1

      @@someonerandom8552 I remember being hyped for San Andreas by way of reading various Game Informer magazines and catching tv spots with that kickass Guns N' Roses song in the background.
      And to put it bluntly, it blew my expectations out of the water and then some.
      And sure, while the PS1/PS2 GTA titles may feel a bit janky compared to IV and V, I still find enjoyment out them. Particularly when it comes to the music, where Vice City and its prequel Vice City Stories being my favorite soundtracks.

    • @someonerandom8552
      @someonerandom8552 Před 4 lety +1

      Matthew Cool I think I randomly played SA because at the time, that was like the most rebellious thing ever, at least that’s what younger me thought lol! A violent video game corrupting my precious little mind, so said all the media around me. And GTA especially got most of the ire. I even got multiple versions of SA through the years. First was a gift for my clunky old af PC. But that broke down years later so I had to seek out another version. Got the 360 version. Which isn’t a good version admittedly, but it was better than nothing I thought. Nephew broke the disc. Le sigh.
      I was so happy that I was able to get it on the PS store for my PS4. Thank the gaming gods!
      I love the stories for Vice, IV and SA. I mean I still curse at certain missions due to clunky controls. But man, those games are stone cold classics imo.
      And I agree with you about Vice’s music. I think I slightly prefer the SA soundtrack, but that could be because that was the “badass” soundtrack lol
      Well as kids that’s what we all thought, anyway haha

    • @someonerandom8552
      @someonerandom8552 Před 4 lety

      Matthew Cool By the way, what’s your thoughts on GTAV? I feel like everything is there for me to love it. The graphics are nice, controls are smooth as silk, the characters are amusing and the satire is typical Rockstar. But I find myself playing Red Dead 2 far more often than V.

    Completed it on PC when I was 13 or so. Loved all the flaws You mentioned, because I found it a touch of "realism" at the time. In real life it is difficult as well to fit a trailer into small garage. + Inertia after quitting the vehicles, + trick to look it like 3d while being 2d game, + intro's of the bosses.
    Easiest way to beat the game was to not fail any mission, which adds up the bonus multiplier. In that regard 14-15 successful missions in row let's U reach the finishing score.

    I watched my brother play this and always wanted to try it, but for the life of me couldn't find it enjoyable. It's rough, clunky, slow, you can't easily tell where you're going or what's ahead of you, you crash constantly, and the combat was a mess.
    Shocked this grew into one of the best selling games of all time tbh lol

    To bad you review this as if it were a game released today. GTA was great when it was released, the lack of tutorials, not knowing the map and where missions would bring you to. The wonky driving 'physics', difficulty of dying easily and all that. Was part of the magic this game offered. There was nothing like it and it was new territory within gaming. This game made the franchise and it was one of the most popular games of its time.
    Also the LAN functionality was amazing for LAN parties or that one classroom in the schoolbuilding with computers.

    often when making retro reviews people don't understand what games were back in the day, gta 1 was epic, absolute freedom, killing people by driving over them, steal every vehicle, a big city free to discover, those were the things that make the game unique for the time, graphic wise was not on the top in that period but gameplay wise this was so much fun

    Some people are spoiled by technology. This game and the 2nd GTA were amazing! At the time there really was nothing like them. Stealing cars, selling cars, running pedestrians over, shooting at cops, killing frenzys, blowing things up, blood of nuns splattered on sidewalks.....both of these games were extremely fun and thank goodness nobody thought to make it aaaalllll about missions! Missions are great and all but nothing can compare to finding the tanks and wrecking havoc on the streets of whatever part of the city you were in and running over Elvis impersonators.

    Just played it. All I can say really is that you’ll really like it at first but end up despising it immensely after playing for 2 or 3 hours. If all you’re planning to do is mess around in the map then nothing should bother you besides getting used to the controls which can be rebinded at any time. HOWEVER, if you actually plan on actually completing the game, then you have to have 150% patience and dedication cause you’re going to need it.
    Oh yeah something I feel that will help out to new players is debug mode which gives you the ability to zoom out the camera. (Simply enter “porkcharsui” as your character name; the “K” and “L” keys will then be set to setting the camera up or down)
