Simply Amazing Apple Tart

  • This Apple Tart recipe is simply amazing. Light and delicate, yet packed with apple flavor. The golden flaky tart crust if the perfect foundation for such a delicious treat.
    Ingredients:
    o 3-4 medium size Granny Smith Apples
    o ¼ cup granulated sugar + 1 tablespoon for topping
    o ¼ cup brown sugar
    o 2 teaspoons lemon juice
    o 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    o 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    o ¼ teaspoon salt
    o 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces.
    o ¼ cup melted apricot preserves
    Instructions:
    1. Peel and core apple, then slice into medium-thin slices. Place apples slices into a large bowl.
    2. Roll out tart crust dough, large enough to overlap the tart pan. (Refer to Pate Brisee video for pie crust recipe). Layer rolled dough over pan, pressing into the pan. Trim overlapping dough. Place tart crust into refrigerator for 30 minutes to chill.
    3. Add sugars, cinnamon, salt, vanilla extract, and lemon juice, to the bowl. Toss until all apples are costed.
    4. Remove chilled tart crust from the fridge. Arrange apples upright side by side around the pan. Overlap each layer from the seams, in brick pattern. Roll finial apple slice into a rosebud and place in the center.
    5. Dot the top of the tart with butter, then sprinkle surface with extra tablespoon of sugar. Place tart pan on a cookie sheet or pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 60 minutes.
    6. Remove tart from the oven. Brush on a layer of melted apricot preserves over top. Let set for 20-30 minutes. Then cut and enjoy.
