The in-line phillips is definitley a great option. The phillips is why I love my Super Tinker, but having it in-line is a real bonus.
Add the magnifying glass.. and you get the best SAK for edc.
This does look like a perfect SAK. Plus I do like how the toothpick and tweezers match the scales on that black version.
Great review as always Sippy.
Congrats on 500+ Subs!! Well deserved 🫡
I agree, the Explorer is a great SAK for EDC, I gave one to my father last year for his birthday since he really liked the magnifying glass feature. Thanks for this review and Cheers!
Great knife, great review Slippy. I too had an Explorer on my desktop for a long time until something came up where I needed a little pair of pliers often and switched it to a Deluxe Tinker. Dan is a treasure for you guys on the wrong side of the pond. Thanks for sharing.
Those are great knives! And you can get them pretty much any way you need them! Very handy! Have a wonderful weekend 👍
Great video Matt! If I get another SAK, I will definitely consider this one.
Congrats on hitting 500, buddy! Cheers!
Ever since I was a child I love Swiss Army knives, there is something very precise about them for me. these days my edc is the Huntsman - THANK YOU For a lovely video - Have a great weekend 🌲🌲🌲
Thanks for watching Ofer 🫡
You can't go wrong with a SAK and they've stood the test of time.
Great review mate! Love the Explorer. I've carried mine almost everyday since I got it. 🤘🏻🤠🤘🏻
Right on!
Thanks for the tour on that Explorer. I am trying to resist the siren song of the SAK but my resolve is weakening, lol!
Congrats on the 500 subs. 🍻
Fantastic review of the Explorer. I also have this that came originally with red cellidor scales which I later replaced with brass topographic handles from ASZ Knifemaker. I carry this specifically on both hikes and camping outings and, on occasions, rotate it in my EDC with the Compact, Fieldmaster, Huntsman, and Ranger.
Thank you for the kind words 🙏🏼 glad you're enjoying the Explorer
Just found your channel, good content. Subscribed !
Awesome, thank you!
Great choice in a Victorinox, I don't think I'd consider a proper collection of them complete without one of these. Thanks, Slippy.
Thanks for watching John 🫡
Great companion on a backpacking trip
One of my favs for sure!!
Thanks you
i modified my SAK clamp convert to 5 layer, its now explorer with wood saw . the BEST
That is awesome!
I don’t think YT has ever suggested your channel to me. Glad I found it, great to find another UK based EDC channel.
I keep thinking about adding an Explorer to the EDC primarily for the Phillips head and scissors.
Welcome aboard! Nothing but madness here
@@SlipjointSawyer Hahaha! I’m in the right place then 😉
The Explorer was my favorite EDC for years, mainly for the inline phillips. Then I discovered the Cybertool M - the bits with 8 ends in total in the knife (no extra holder) + surprisingly useful pliers and pen.
That's one I have my eyes on, thanks for watching 🙏🏼🫡
Dang i wish i got this version haha I just got a black Climber is yours older like 2000s? mine had the same tang stamp n is diff from my other Sak. Even my toothpick is white n tweezer are grey haha
Thank you for the nice review! One thing I like about Swiss army knives is that the blackout version looks elegant rather than creepy.
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼🫡
I got the 2017 Winter Magic -Explorer for $50 a few weeks ago. It's nice but it's a little thick for me to carry regularly
Best sak ever hands down i had this for 4 years now and i use it everyday can't leave the house without it now just put sum plus scales and pen and its 101% perfect!
Thanks brother 🤌🏼🫡
Great review, I'd say all that's left out was pliers
Perfect if pliers are added!
A really nice SAK - especially the in-line phillips screwdriver. All said though I think I like my Huntsman more as it has a wood saw. But i feel aggrieved that my Huntsman is black and I didn't get the matchin darl toothpick!!
Yeah, I like the woodsaw on the Huntsman and the Ranger.
My favorite
It's definitely a good one 😁
9:08 Great tip! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
I have been carrying explorer for 1 months. Absolutely love it. I have been trying knipex xs cobra pliers also. Going to replace Leatherman with these two items. Can do everything I do with these 2 items and half the wait. Also when using pliers on Leatherman it is always at a weird angle, handles in the way, and pain in the a$$ to use other than needle nose portion of the pliers.
Great to hear!
Blade is used as a mirror on my older Explorers, to see whats on my face or whatnot. They came with a higher polish. As a geologist I've been carrying that model for ~30 yrs because of the lens we need for mineral identification. I suppose one could polish the newer type blades to the same degree. I hope the newest versions keep gless magnifiers as they went to plastic ones briefly that would get scratched up. Nice video.
Awesome thanks
Great video! These are excellent knives! Can’t say enough good things about them! Have a fantastic day!
Each SAK has something going for it, great knives from a really good company.
@@SussexEDC I concur, sir
Interesting vid.
I just found out where sak stands for last week.....
In this scenario it's for Swiss Army Knife 👀
@@SlipjointSawyer 🤔
Its the best one! If I'm not mistaken,it was also the favorite model of the owner. It also makes the best combination with the Spirit X. What the Explorer offers, the Spirit does not and vise versa. Best edc tools both as a combo,or stand alone.
Thanks for watching 🫡
Nice knife, the inline Phillips should be on more models
100% agree
For work and dress pants the Compact is preferable. Loose pants, Chinos , Tinker Deluxe. I do like the inline philips but, Magnifying glass takes up too much volume IMO
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
I have the Explorer. I like it a lot. Just wish it had a file, even an integrated one on the back of the hook
That would be cool!
I think it's the hiker I have. Anyway, it has a Phillips, which, for me, is essential. I never, ever use the cork screw, but I use the Phillips almost every day. I prefer the Phillips on the back. It gives me much more power.
That said, I'm a Leatherman guy. It not only has better knife blades, it's also a real multi-tool made to do hard work. I always have the Super Tool 300 with me, and it does numerous things that a SAK can't even attempt. For me, the SAK is just something I use for very, very small tasks, and for the few times when I can't carry the 300. Again, for me, the SAK is a small pocketknife with some tools on it. The Leatherman is a large multi-tool with some large knife blades on it.
Both are useful, but for different things and at different times.
Couldn't have said it better 👍🏼 thanks for watching
Great review. Hard to disagree for urban Sak. I rotate alox bantam, solo or camper depending on circumstance.
Thanks for watching Robert 🫡🙏🏼
I like the parcel hook. Useless to some. For me. I use it to pick up “cord / twine” wrapped bundles of firewood available at campgrounds near me. Much easier on the fingers and hands.
One of the best tools on a SAK 100%
get a mini screwdriver in that corkscrew and a straight pin in the scales or I'm tellin Mum !!!
Agree on the Explorer being best for EDC over the compact. The Evolution S18 Grip is a very close second for me. 🔪🔪🔪
It's one of the all time greats 🙏🏼
None more black, toothpick 😢 nice review. Probably the only SAK we need. Apart from all the rest.
Thanks brother 👍🏼
Hey Matt 👊
Good overall review, buddy.
Personally, I like to carry a Huntsman, Camper, Hiker or similar in my rucksack, when - 'on the trail' as I prefer to have an option of a Saw 🪚
However, I find the Explorer 🧭 is a great option for urban carry, like the climber and keep one in my car.
For me, if I had to choose the 'best' overall, it would be the Huntsman... 😉
Atb Gus👍
Can you pocket carry this one or too thick?
I carry this one all the time 🙏🏼🫡
How can you go your Swiss Army days without carrying an Explorer at one point?
It's not possible 👀
Add Plus scales + pin + pen, and this SAK will even be a better one.
100% fantastic knife
You are mistaken. That caplifter you indicated could be used as a phillips driver is not the one that has that feature. It looks very different as the corner of the flathead portion is the same angle as a 32 phillips. Take a look at a Bantam and you'll see what I mean.
Thank you for the information Sir 🙏🏼🔥
The corkscrew is also good in case you have to gouge someones eye out.
👀😂😂😂
And leave a comment...
So it’s a Huntsman with magnifier and Phillips driver instead of a saw. Interesting.
Awesome
A wonderful knife without question. BUT, I don't think any SAK can be classified as "best all-rounder" if it doesn't have a saw blade. This is especially true if you like to go on hikes, or walks, in the woods. I too like the plastic handles vice the Alox, because of the tweezers and toothpick. Nice job.
Thanks John! Appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts 🙏🏼🫡
The Swiss Army Knife one should really take a look at is the Super Tinker! 😎👍🏻
I have one 👀
The Explorer is just an extra thick Climber to me. The inline phillips and mag glass is a highly overrated layer IMO.
For magnification i'll just take a picture with my phone and enlarge it, better than looking through an inch sized glass circle.
The inline phillips, while handy, i can do 90% of what it can do with the can opener's SD, and i can also use my bit adapter and SD bits with the bottle opener. So no need for that dedicated layer.
For urban EDC 4 layers i'll take the Deluxe Tinker any day, though ideally i wish it was a deluxe Climber... Or a Climber for 3 layers
Excellent choices! Appreciate all the support Conan 🙏🏼
I snagged an Explorer Plus off EBay for $6, shipping included. Got it today. It was in good shape with all the accessories (I.e. small corkscrew screwdriver, working pen, toothpick, and tweezers. I feel like I stole it.
That's a fantastic deal! For such an amazing SAK too 🙏🏼🫡
That small flat head/X head is 100% BS unless you don't mind opening your thumb nail with the can opener which is clearly the only thing it should be used for (yes I speak from experience) I'm not into the brass pinned scissors as wear sadly is a thing my oldy has a tiny flathead so a mini driver in the corkscrew is fitted but just peen it down and it'll stay tight
Thanks for watching and appreciate your findings from real use 🙏🏻
Guns do not assault people no matter what you call them.
Guns are good. Support America. Buy guns. Stay armed.
Everyone has different needs, but the Explorer suits my needs the best
Couldn't have said it better
Nice knife mate, but I enjoy the Wood Saw too much if they added that to the explorer then I would agree. I have a SwissChamp in a horizontal belt holster and for just a local waking about the Huntsman in my pocket.
I've recently been carrying the ranger! Loving it 😁
@SlipjointSawyer ranger is something I like, too. There are too many great choices. 😆
