- Highsnobiety’s managing director and vintage military gear expert takes Alpha Industries to The Supply Sergeant in L.A., a California surplus chain founded more than 70 years ago. hypebeasts are gonna start looking like anti-terrorism units soon
they are already ripping off military gear.
Arian Labbaf lmao yes
Have you heard the term "techwear"?
Arian Labbaf yep that’s me
@@Pretisy fuck antifa. They are the real nazis
I love surplus stores. It's like a museum where you can buy the items on display.
Yeah...and the militery knows how to make some nice ass coats
Yeah fax but to me it’s a novelty, like I’m not gonna wear a nazi trench coat to school but yeah it’s cool to have just because it’s part of history
@@james2k I dont think you know how expensive and rare WWII era german uniforms are
@@james2k I hope you realize most surplus stores would not exist if they did actually serve nazi related items. They can only use modern German uniforms.
@@mingchenwei1978 depends on the store. The local shop when I lived in tx had several of the m32 black ss tunics.
Waiting to see hypebeasts wearing plate carriers and fast helmets anytime soon
If it says Supreme on it you will see it soon
xd
just get a plate carrier and then buy a supreme patch and stick it on there
berets coming soon
Shawn R *Flecktarn
In germany a jacket with “polizei“ would get you in trouble for impersonating a police officer lmao
JeremyPorridge true lol. It's much easier to get away with it when you're in a different country.
Makes sense tbh
@Brian Mino im not sure if you're being sarcastic but they do indeed not have any authority in any country besides the one they are hired in. Unless they are apart of a national or international law enforcement agency
German version of stolen valor
Actually if you don't have they police emblem (Hoheitszeichen) it's not really illegal. Unless you really act like you are a police officer.
Supreme X army
Release date : soon
Price starting at :$499
Make that 34.900 with NV-goggles
yep... i bought a leather Polizei jacket for £50 from a surplus warehouse, saw the same one in a fashion shop for £300
Take a shot every time he calls something dope
James Zulli im drunk pretty now

So dope, I mean never seen something so dope. It's real dope you turned me on to these dope fashions. Just dope man.

Crack me up.
Legit dope
Join the Marine Corps and you'll get two seabags free
Worth it
“Free”
Nah man. Its all about repping the stuff you didnt have the sand to earn nowadays haha
Yea but then you don’t get to wear all this surplus stuff for fashion because you’d get shit from your fellow Marines.
Shabba Danks dont dress like a boot lmao
Yeah that Polzei Jacket is super dope
Nah I'm straight actually
Window shopper
Chief Keef I live in Germany so there isn’t a need for him to hook me up stop with the slander b🤦🏽♂️😂
Isn’t it illegal to wear it, if you are not a police officer on work?
dm me @maxolgn
So this is where all those stolen valor people go to shop
Matt R. Underated
lmao. exaclty what i commented above just in a mean way though o guess .lol
So wearing camo is stolen valor now? That's like the people who say if you own an ar15 and a plate carrier its stolen valor. Just stfu please.
Opals Bodhi obviously if someone is buying foreign surplus they are not committing stolen valor. If a 20 year old buys a U.S. Vietnam era uniform they are obviously either a collector or it's a fashion statement. Even if someone wears a modern U.S. uniform it's perfectly fine as long as they don't wear the full uniform with full insignia in public.
alex herring boots?!? Are you kidding me? Are you actually trying to tell me that if I wear the issue boots that my green beret neighbor gave me that's stolen valor? They're fucking boots! They make civilian boots that look just like those! Do you actually think it's stolen valor for a 20 something to wear ww2 trousers? Currently enlisted? My honorably discharged grandpa can't wear his Vietnam issue overcoat in the winter? Fuck off.
I feel like this video should have more recognition than it does. It's really well produced, it's concise and to the point. I learned a little something and it genuinely made me want to visit one of these surplus stores.
Sad to see that these types of stores are a dying breed. I run one that is owned by my stepfather and I hope to keep it going until I'm gone too. The items you can find in these stores are things you may never see again in your lifetime. Some of the things we get mean more to me than anything I own, just for the fact that it was used to keep yours and my freedom.
I'm looking for a M65 US Army Green Field jacket, size large. Do you have any?
@@bobfresno7134 I’m sorry to say no, unfortunately I didn’t get to take over when he and my mother retired like I was told the entire time I was there. Sadly we closed in March of 2020 after just shy of 40 years in business. I hope to one day soon be able to open again because so many people loved coming in and I loved talking to all of them.
@@bobfresno7134 are you wanting a authentic G.I.? If not there’s a couple I can recommend that won’t break the bank but are very well made.
@@blake102989 aw that's such a shame. I'm sorry to hear.
Want good surplus? Ebay or other online auctions.
shopping at at the Supply Sergeant has been in my life since 1957 and I love it still
A whole store full of military artifacts and we get to see size 56 bdu pants, old sea bags and some German camo jackets... this video was not very dope.
Are u like some sort of wannabe soldier
Danny Gonzalez what does that matter
Flecktarn is real cool
I'm a surplus colecter
That was dope, all those dope camo blouses and dope patches. Overall it's a dope store I'm gonna have to visit.
give cookie to whoever edited this/did the soundediting
lol he was giving them a compliment
abisz007007 I didn’t even see the video yet and already know I’m gonna die from shots
Luis Ayala what the actual fuck ?
Of course the hipster goes for vintage denim first..
Are you the real Hugh Mungus
4:05 as a 5 foot marine. I can say that I’ve been stuffed into one of those bags at least twice.
Man, that surname tho.
That’s good training right there
There where even east German NVA Uniforms. Im impressed :D
I'm not.. Ebay and anquite stores have them when I go there. I prefer NVA Ushankas since they keep my head warm during the winter.
There were* (where = asking for location) ...
Surplus stores:
Good: You can see how everything looks without fault
Bad: The prices are all jacked up WAAAAAY more than online stores
I Bought An N 3b Alpha Industries Parka For Cheaper Than Online
For real, Props to the filmer and editors.
Man I used to wear vintage military stuff for years now and suddenly everyone is wearing it or clothes inspired by it without even knowing what theyre wearing, kinda sad losing the history of the garnments
Mr Duke Silver classic 2009 hipster
There were hipsters around 2009? Didnt they emerge in 2012?
Most I knew that wore military stuff growing up where poor people or those who wanted clothes that could take a beating.
Mr Duke Silver lmao bro they’ve always existed
Why wear military stuff if you aint a part of the army if you want to wear that uniform it will be a good idea to earn it
I love it how the intro makes it look like it’s in downtown even though it’s in the suburbs 20 mins away from downtown
Gotta love a content creator with no ads at the beginning of the video. No greed just content! Hard to find these type of CZcamsrs today. 👍
We need places like this in every single country in every single city and every single town!
I love war shops like this!
There used to be a lot more, but they're going away because militaries are becoming smaller, meaning less and less surplus is being created. It's sad to see them going away, but at the same time it's positive in how it reflects that less young people are being sent to die in conflicts.
Do you appreciate the history behind it?
i like how he has no clue what he is talking about
He just walked by a lot of better field tunics too
haha yeah "everyone likes this pattern mainly cause its _dope_ "
Biggie Cheese Nah, called it m65 because that’s the name of that jacket, which was in m81 woodland
Calls M81 "M65"
@@duncanbrodie1 M65 is the pattern of jacket, the camo pattern is M81 casual
My Olive surplus M65 will never get old, I love surplus stuff. Has to be my favorite jacket.
Id deff wear that German camo jacket
Dude being in Germany you see it everywhere - u can literally get it for 5€ here
Also from Varusteleka webstore
Have one . also got a pair of coveralls on sale for $15 lol its amazing
Toasted Dude When I went to Manchester, I saw one at a store, which I found pretty weird.
this dude just sad Swiss?
You're too young to remember Pally's War Surplus Store in downtown L.A. in the late 50s to early 60s. It was a real surplus store where you could buy helmets, ammo belts all manner of uniforms and tactical gear. You could get a B-17 gyroscope or a Sperry ball-turret and all manner of aircraft components, literally everything except the weapons. We used to spend hours in this huge store, I mean big! What they call Army Surplus stores today is pretty wimpy by comparison.
It’s almost as if the closer you are to wars the more wear gear there is 🤯
@GereDJ I've never heard of it. Where was this, what streets specifically?
@@anonymousanonymous4690 Exactly right, and that was the case with Pally's.
@@demurevilleneuvewinslet8235 I honestly don't remember, but was located to the side of downtown LA sort of in the warehouse district. They had a big parking lot too with lots of aircraft parts, wings, landing gear, electronics, flak jackets, heated flight suits, etc, etc, amazing place. Inside was row after row of all manner of Army Infantry gear, boots, packs, belts, shovels, radios, ect. I remember the place smelled like a cross between cosmoline and Olive drab green dyed canvas.
@@GereDJ2 "Lots of aircraft parts", any LPS-2 on the shelves?
Love this store in Burbank, CA. Been there many times. Staff is helpful and the prices are very reasonable. They’ll have what you’re looking for.
*single tear* it’s beautiful!
Army Surplus stores have such a distinct smell :) Nice video, liked the soundtrack
This is where I generally go for surplus, preparedness, and emergency gear. They have a good stock and are quite helpful. Good prices.
I have purchased a very unique and rare item in surplus last week. It was a German WWII Fieldmarshall uniform with its knights cross of the iron cross medal.
it's just called the iron cross..
@@LockheedC-130HerculesOfficial The Knight's Cross ("Ritterkreuz") is a higher ranking medal than the iron cross, and the official name is in fact what is stated in the original comment. A German field marshall in WW2 would most likely have been old enough to have served as an officer during WW1 already and received his IC back then.
Must have cost you a fortune, even if it was fake. There were only a handful of German field marshalls in WW2.
amazing pieces
Been to this store in Burbank back in the 90's--GREAT STORE!
The best army surplus I came across was in Japan. They get it from all the military bases and really sort through it. Got me a US Army Camp Jacket. My wife stole it and now it's hers.
Dope editing. I gotta check that place out too
These videos make me miss my local military surplus store. Been wearing military clothing by choice and even before I knew what it was in my toddler days with the boonie hats thanks to my old man.
These videos are awesome. Really like the host. He’s knowledgable but approachable
I wanted to look at every single thing. I just started my flecktarn collection because German stuff is plentiful and cheap and I have to say I love the look and the quality. Well worth it for sure. The cool flecktarn jacket he picked up is only $10 all day and the big super nice parkas if you pay more than $30 you're getting ripped off even though the quality and what you get is worth more. Also the duffel bag the employee said he fit all of his clothes in is no joke for someone looking for an easier way to move clothes or laundry. I have the same one from when I was in the military and I lived entirely out of that bag comfortably for quite some time. It'll fit all your uniforms, every basic necessity you can think of and then a lot more. I love using it for clothes and bedding now though. I think there's a black hole in the bottom of it or something.
weird that you show downtown los angeles, but the place you go isn't in downtown.
It's not even in LA, it's in Burbank, a completely different city lol.
@@fdsman BUrbank is LA county
You want him to show downtown BURBANK?
Oh I just assumed that this store was located at the intersection of the two streets that they showed the signs for. I've never been to CA by the way. I wouldn't know the difference.
@@andyblack5687 every city in California has a Magnolia something or other in it.
I always love going to the surplus shop once in awhile you can get good deals on some tough stuff
been going to Kauffman's since the mid 70's and alway's gives me a good feel to still see it open and doing business
I have a war veteran teacher he is the best teacher i have had and probably will have he is very funny i will probably buy him something from there im like about 1 hour away thank you for this video
I need a lot of this stuff for my militia, when the revolution starts.
got a good old British army Saracen armoured car out back always nice to see them

Awesome stuff!
Once I get a job after college, I'm going to this store before it disappears. It has always been my dream to have a gas mask since Fallout 2 released. Also a Katana, cause why not? ( it will stay at home of course )
Nathan Phan Join the military and they give you a gas mask for free dude.
Dope right?
LeeroyFan101 Of course you don't get to keep it when you get out.
Im just joking around by saying if you want military gear you can get some by joining...the military.
Did you end up getting a job after college?
Yo I see them WW2 German tunics with the SS cuff titles on em.That has to be repro. That East German Tunic though was tight lookin. Ima scope this place for real when Im in LA in Feb.
its a german nva jacker lol
go there all the time its great
Best part about every item they sell is there all very good quality gear, like amazing quality.
yooo I ALWAYS go there. so dope a video was made on it
Poly you pop up everywhere mang. I was just chattin you up about shit the other day on intsa hahah
MicMastaMugen AYEE. whats your ig?
berkutgru
Do you still go in there?
I understand the clothes I mean get I wear military winter hats so I don't die without having exposed skin to air after 5 minutes ( it's cold where I'm from) but military ribbons? C'mon, that's too much.
JAG ÄTER BARN what the fuck do you mean by "too much?" Have you not heard of collecting? Have you not considered that maybe a veteran wants to buy the insignia they wore but don't have anymore?
Aidan Duncan I was implying that some dickhead would use that to their advantage for stolen valor.
Aidan Duncan Which the majority of the time is the case. Also how would a vet lose a previous medal awarded to them? Even If you lost one why would you want to buy some other dudes award since they have the original recipients name on the back of the award on, oh I don't know, just about every medal that's ever existed for the U.S military. But whatever...
JAG ÄTER BARN soldiers coming back from wars would pawn or sell things they were issued all the time for extra money and then sometimes they regret it later on in life. It's not so much with awards but more rank insignia or unit patches. My grandpa bought an old seventh infantry pin because he's proud that he was in that unit and wanted another one. It's extremely rare that someone goes buys something like that for stolen valor. Most people are not that fucked up. Military collectors are extremely common as well.
Aidan Duncan And what your Grandpa was perfectly reasonable. Unit patches are a different ball game then say the Silver Star, or a Purple Heart. That's where the issue comes into play because people will sometimes buy one giving some fake ass story with no pictures or proof as the people they tell it to are so stupid they believe them. But yeah, identifying with a Unit or MOS. That's fine with me.
More of this content please!
Thanks to CZcams for suggesting this video, I would like to check this place out some day
Dope shit bro pretty dope. Dope ass and dope ass clothes. Pretty dope
Super Suit lol
pretty dope

I’ve been there, I loved it!
I’ve been there on each trip to L.A., and it never disappoints.
Wish they had a surplus store here that sold those ww2 German uniforms. I hate buying online
Das Reich A store near me does
Only that WW2 German stuff isn't surplus, it's a collectors item.
thats wearing the wrong teams uniform
At this point I think my local surplus store hates me 😂 I’m in there quite constantly
Wølf Shadøwhill why would they hate u ur business 💀💀😂
wym they're making money.. unless you don't buy anything
Ngl I love the stuff they have the patches they have , gas mask army helmets etc I just went to one surplus store about a week ago lol
That huge bag at the end works really well as a bench when you fill it all the way up
I wonder if they have anything classic?
4 locations left? They’re going out of business?
Lamar Davis used to have one in my city so I’d say yes.
I have been to that place before it is freking awesome

How'd we get so many navy seal Ranger battalion MARSOC hypebeasts in this comment section?
Justin Mebes W
lol my uncle was cracking at this comment mans was seal in vietnam before they were considered special just meant to kill civilians and shit
Maxx's World now it's my turn to pretend like I know what I'm talking about because I sort of do so here goes me eating my own words: SEALs never just "killed civilians" fortunately. They started in WW2 as divers and they called em "frogmen" which lead to renaming them SEALs which I'm sure you know means "sea, air, and land" and the Navy used them to kill the bad dudes, never civilians thanks to the laws we established on war crimes after WW1.
LMAOOOOO Navy seals were created by president jfk, my guy they were meant for unconventional warfare LOLOL
Maxx's World unconventional warfare is war fought in the sea, air, and land. That's what I'm saying. What exactly do yo uthink that it means?
Going there this Sunday!
Ahhh, I found a vintage, black Alpha MA-1 yesterday, in my favourite Paris second hand shop, great condition and 30 euros ! I washed it last night and I’ve been wearing it today
I used to wear all of this stuff back in the late 90's when I was a punk rock/hardcore kid. I used to shop at my local surplus store all the time, sadly they closed almost a decade ago. Kids these days are only wearing this because others wear it (hypebeasts) and because it's the trendy thing to do, they're posers just into it because others are doing it. Back then you wore it because you were in the military or were into punk/hardcore punk, and only a select few were into that.
I have never seen a cop wearing the “legit police jacket“, and im from germany 😂
Musst du mal die Wohnung verlassen haha
Ist eine alte Jacke aus der Zeit kurz nach dem der Bundesgrenzschutz in Bundespolizei umbenannt, aber bevor von grüne auf blaue Uniformen umgestellt wurde.

Is that a wehrmacht jacket at 0:42 I see??
yea. I really want that cause it look like it is good for cold weather.
Tmz
keroji s Yeah no, its not good for cold weather. If it was, the germans wouldn't have lost in russia...
It's likely East German, after the war they kind of kept the WW2 era German look with their uniforms. So if you ever want to dress up like a German soldier for Halloween or whatever, you can get East German boots and uniforms from the 80s for much cheaper and still have that classic look.
Must be from the GDR
Great vids!! Great edits!!

i dont get why people dont just say "stock", like nah they be on a mission to make every phrase trendy. L
luis mendez deadstock is the correct term tho
if its unworn its obviously dead stock , he could have said unworn on its own .
He probably meant it in the original definition meaning no longer in production
