I'm PhiDX, I play Tekken professionally for @ParagonFGC and ArcadeShock. - Hry
One of the biggest and most important things Phi said in this video, that all intermediate players need to take to heart is when he said: "I might not win the set but I am happy with how I adjusted". When playing to get better at the game, you have already won the match in that moment, even if you lose. It's so important that even if you win the war you might have lost some battles along the way. Massive for mentality.
Keep it up Phi
osu!
Thats what i say in my friend's house after loosing all games, they stare silently at me.
It's honestly really true too. I have a friend who's an absolute beast at Tekken and I love getting to play him because he's so good it forces me to lock in every time we play. I still lose most of our matches, but anytime I'm able to side step launch, or back dash round start into launch punish, it makes me feel like I'm a Tekken God Prime lol. The game gets a lot easier to master when you actually compartmentalize your growth. I can notice when I'm getting better at confirms or movement or blocking and that genuinely does help alleviate the salt from a loss.
but I wanna fuckin win tho bro like what do you mean
like I can't just stop wanting to win
@@ividboy7616everyone wants to win but if you don't learn and just cheese your way to victory, you will eventually hit the rock bottom cuz people can counter your cheese and you cant stop loosing, so having a solid win/lose ratio while learning is better than just winning all the time
Those first 30 seconds with Victor is my entire life in red ranks. Mindless agression, spamming so many things. It takes a while to be able to punish and stop the permanent mashing
When I play King and receive that agression of the mashing and braking a lot of throws I get to the point I don't know what to do anymore XD
Imagine being mindlessly agressive spamming things and keep winning :)
It's really hard when you are just not good at something like side step or know the frame punish on every move. Right now, I am having trouble on Shaheen in Orange ranks because I get confused about what to do in high aggression situations. It's a slow process, but I think I'm getting better.
I can never handle Alisa players doing that. Nor good Alisa players. She would need a whole guide on how to beat her. Impossible character...
whenever I play against Viktor, Hwoarang, Nina, Law i expect gameplay like this. just a lot of strings and unfortunately it takes time to learn how to counter them. I slowly adapted to some tricks but I still lose sometimes. I am proud of myself tho cause before I could not touch them now I win games against them and always put up a fight. someday mashers will lose against me most of the times and I believe that.
You are a blessing to people who started to take Tekken seriously in the 8th installment, but what is most impressive about you is your articulation. You don’t waste ANY words at all and it’s very easy to understand you. As a person who’s been playing since 4, even I feel like I also learn something new. Keep it up!
Exactly how I feel watching this video. It’s a masterpiece
I LOVE your live commentary during games, you're so good at articulating what your opponent is doing and how you're gonna try to deal with it.
For real Phi, I think this video has single-handedly helped me more than just about any I've seen so far for Tekken 8. I went in with this mindset for a bunch of games after watching this and felt like I had way more control over the fight than I have had up to this point. I got to orange ranks and was feeling a little stuck on what to work on to progress and I think this opened up a path forward for my Asuka gameplay.
I feel like this video is a very good embodiment of the training im doing now and what sort of process I need as well as what I need to work on, which is understanding my opponents intention and recognizing how to deal with those moves. Keep up the good work man!
I have to say, every time you release a new “How To” video, I legit feel more powerful. Even more, when I apply these things in match and it helps immensely with a win. Keep up the GREAT work, Phi!
For real these videos are so good
SAME!!
That was so educational. I'm happy you won the set and got to teach what you were preaching at the same time. I totally understand why you were so pumped afterward. The content literally made itself. Great video as always Phi.
Dude your analytical ability is scary! Steve even became PhiDX. EKKUSURENT come back match!
Thank you for sharing your input and perspective. It's great to hear your talk
bro phidx why is your outro like the most hype thing i've ever seen? every time i find myself saying along w/ noctis "skiyo da yat de jenezo!"
appreciate the content youre puttin out brother
Had to like and subscribe to this channel. I have legit been learning so much watching these videos and have actually been improving my game.
Thanks for the content.
Been binge watching your tekken 8 tips and tricks vids after seeing you coach some streamers lately.
Your content has been very insightful and helpful. Thanks Phi!
The real time thought process during matches is super helpful man. Great video!
Sick come back. PhiDX is one of my favorite tekken instructors.
Man I absolutely love your commentary this is incredible to watch you play and true inspiration!
🔥 the steve content. i’ve been applying basically all your videos to my game, but there’s something about seeing your main on the video that makes it easier to digest.
plus i saw that t7 optimal steve video. even though you didn’t do anything too fancy, it was still clean
Thank you for sharing out your thoughts and how you adjusted. I learned a lot from this, and from your other videos, thank you.
Wow, this is extremely insightful. I tend to get frustrated with flowchart string offense and can never figure out when to press, block, or duck. Your advice to "want him to have to go low to kill me" is amazing. It really narrows down the scope for me for defense. And it's really helpful to hear what you're thinking at all times. Noticing his patterns, things you could improve on. These are things I should be thinking in my games instead of autopiloting sometimes. Hope you do more of these. Thanks!
What exactly does "flowchart" string offense mean? Specifically the word flowchart
@@themarcshark Lookup "Flowchart Ken"
@@themarcsharkI think it typically refers to when people spam their strings and it either transitions and/or ends in either high/mid/low and you kind of have to guess which option they’re picking. The term flowchart refers to which offense option are they cycling through and which one do you think they are going to do and thus what is your answer to it (are you gonna duck thinking they’re going for the high option? are you gonna stand block in case they go for the big mid option? block low if they go for the low option and launch punish?)
@@themarcsharkflow chart
Flow = The process of going from A to B smoothly
Chart = A diagram that shows information
Flowchart = A piece of information on how to go from A to B smoothly. In Tekken context, this is information on what to do after X move.
Basically, when do X, do Y or Z after.
So Players that try to flowchart means that these are players that repeatedly use X, which allows them to flow into making the enemy guess between Y and Z which is where the reward is. And more specifically, these players are only capable of starting their offense with X and don’t know what to do if Y and Z fails.
A non-flowchart player are those who use A with the purpose of getting a reward from A instead of the attack after A. So there’s no when A, then B. Just A.
Of course, this doesnt exist in a vacuum so of course non-flowchart player doesnt mean they never flowchart. But it means they can still play when their XYZ fail because they have their A.
I hope using Algebra to explain makes sense 😂😂😂
I am glad to find your channel, you are an awesome teacher !
Genuinely thank you for this video! I feel like I really learned some useful information here. You pointed out something that I just didn’t realize at first when playing this game, though it seems obvious now looking back. I really appreciate how calmly you studied that Victor during the match and adapted your play accordingly.
I need to up my sidestep game now. 😃
Wha are your intentions with my defense? Lmao
Both well played, good stuff! This a great reminder that being patient isn't completely lost in this game, thank you.
Dude this format of a live application and a debrief is actually an incredible way to teach! I saw it happen in the match, and then you explained what exactly it was that I saw! I think this is incredible!
That PC indicator flashing red like crazy lol. It's nice to see the hand cam all the time especially for teaching videos. Good video!
Thank you for doing the victor homework for me lol. I'm definitely going to share this video with my best friend who is new to Tekken and this video is good for me too even though I already know the gist of Tekken practice like this. Keep it up! I love seeing new players and seeing you grow with being a coach and stuff!
Every bit of this video helps me being a Steve main, this gave me good match knowledge and a few more combo strings to work on and a few more neutral tech I need to improve on
Another great video. I’m gonna apply this info to all the characters in the game - adding it to my lab regimen. GOOD STUFF!
Every day with Steve content is a good day. Thanks for teaching us the side walk after blocked pressure into stance. I’ll look for when he grabs his katana. Invaluable knowledge.
Thanks bro, this was helpful!
Thanks for the guides man! It’s kind of nice to see someone as good as you fuck up recording in practice mode so much just like me lol
That was very entertaining seeing you all excited, didn’t mind at all that it took a short moment to record the Victor thing
almost 60k subs WTFFF congrats phi
This was a really eye opening video for me. I just started Tekken 8 as my first Tekken game 2 days ago. What I learned in this video will definitely help me improve!
Thank you very much Mr PhiDX!
Beautiful input and guidance! Thanks so much for this helpful vid! I don’t use stream apps but maybe I will because I watch your videos often! Thanks again and have an awesome day!
*"Tekken is movement. Tekken is hype!"* -PhiDX
I like your positive vibe
It seems like you’re quite knowledgeable about steve. Would it be possible for you to do an anti steve or how to deal with steve video? I feel like a lot of characters are fairly easier to deal with because you get advice such as side walk a character a certain way to nullify most of their options, or duck/flash duck their key moves, but with steve it’s just “don’t get hit by b+1”.
I kinda started late in tekken 7 and most of the advice I’ve read was just “don’t get hit by b+1” and that just feels like someone saying “just don’t eat EWGF” when being asked about how to deal with kazuya.
I enjoy watching your content because I get to learn more about the game and actually be entertained at the same time. Keep it up, man.
That victor inspired me.... awesome set, great adjustments.... chefs kiss!!!!
Dude PhiDX is able to remain so ice cold calm it’s almost unnerving 😂
nice and concise video, thank you!
Just to be able to play at this level while breaking down the offense and defense in REAL TIME. Phi is galaxy brain for that 🙌🏾
i find it impressive that you are playing while explaining and teaching
i think Phidx showcased the most important factors, which were staying calm and learn the opponents tendencies
Your Steve fit is Killin me 😂
That outro is so hard, I watch it every time.
One of the things I always think about when playing someone that may be outclassing me in the moment is from the bill belecheick school of thought
His idea was going into a football game defensively he was going to take away the thing you do best. If you beat him another way he would shake your hand.
That’s my train of thought. If I am losing I look at the thing that is the most vibrant and is taxing on me the most and I make it my life’s mission in that moment to take that away from my opponent and make them have to find another route to win. I’ve done that in sets in tournaments too and surprisingly sometimes that’s all they were worth and I advanced. If not it least I can made them adjust and I have to be sharper next time😊
Yo for real how you break this down is made me subscribe.
Great Video, will help!
Nice tips, bro. Cheers
Hey PhiDX! Love your analytical approach, it'd be awesome as well if you went through the replays of your examples, as sometimes trying to explain your rationale during the match could feel hectic. But overall helped me alot, thanks!
Also damn, super relate on those high adrenaline sets that still have you shaking minutes after
Great video thanks 👍🏾
thanks for the video and infomation teach me alot
Those close final round sets are what make this game so hype. 👊
I appreciate your insight
that was so intense and sick match, and guy is playing while speaking his mind out to coach
This video is gold. Please provide a similar one about some of Reina's stances transitions. 👌
Pretty fire exhibition homie
My biggest takeaway is how you have the discipline to immediately run tests after a match while it's fresh in your mind.
It's hard for me not to just que match after match but I still realize it's holding me back from improvement. I hit Red and now I'm trying to figure out what I really want from this game. I hit my goal as a casual player.
Every time I think to really put in the work I think of how it took the last four years for me to get where I am playing Tetris. There's literally no way I could even compare my skill to when I'd been playing for six moths even.
New scrublord to this game, and i've been loving the learning process. I'm even more happy i found this video, and i subscribed once i was finished. Help me make my kung fu strong!
Very good video for someone like me who struggles to incorporate sidestepping on defense
This information will definitely help me as I main kazuya
10:44 I know that feeling all too well. Some sets get the heart racing and the blood flowing, like damn!
this was helpful for me to watch as i do that same pressure but better
You are so real for this.
Love watching pros vs random unknown players, these kind of matches give us things that are more applicable.
This helped my understanding of why my ss always fail. Now I know why. Thank you for this video.
Hello ! Ur content is really great. It can be cool to do a video of the best move for all character to apply in defense training, cause i didnt know their inputs for Jun / Victor etc
I really appreciate how good you are at demonstrating a healthy mindset with the game. "Ooohh, so here's what they're doing, here's how I'll try to adjust, and even if I don't win the match he's teaching me something new"
Also appreciate how concisely you break down these higher level strategies.
“What are your intentions with my defense” is top tier mottos to learn by and also 100% hilarious.
I love the PhiDX skin lol
That second match was the most lethal download I’ve ever seen holy shht
Super helpful! Also a question… if you can predict victor’s teleport mixups, can you counter hit launch him out of it? I’m a king main and in one instance I was in the flow of the match defending victor’s flow chart offense, and as he teleported backward and flashed forward I launched him w back 1,2 as he was coming in. Haven’t labbed it to see if that was lucky or a massive window that can be exploited.
amazing stuff
9:02 That was a sick duck
Interesting bit of defense knowledge.
"what're your intentions with my defense" got a little chuckle outta me. i'll give it up.
I would call myself an intermediate player, and after labing against Paul for a while trying to see what beats him. I found an option select similar to what you mentioned for Jun.
Paul's QCB stance has options that cover everything, qcb+1 is a safe mid check, qcb+2 is a heat engaged mid, qcb+3 is a low with follow-ups, qcb+1+2 is a launcher and qcb+4 is a homing move.
There is one option that beats all but one of these and it is, Sidestep Right and immediately duck. This covers every option that Paul has aside from qcb+4 (since it is homing) and taking the hit is much better than guessing low or mid against PAUL. Also, qcb+4 is only good if you manage to land a counter hit, since it deals low damage and doesn't give guaranteed damage afterwards.
Even if the Paul delays the follow ups it is entirely in your favor since they all have a fixed angle and don't track.
Most Paul go into this stance from WS+1 2, DF+1 or 3 2. if you block any of these moves you can predict the qcb stance and use the option select.
This easily eliminates one of Paul great close up stances.
That OS used to work, and actually does beat qcb4. But I believe Paul can do df4 now or some other move to nullify that
@@PhiDX I think he can cancel the stance with a sidestep left then use what ever other move he wants, but i don't know if these Paul players are thinking that far ahead 😅
@@caeluse oh yes! Sidestep "up" to crouch cancel, then df4. Very strong option to cover this OS.
That download was surgical.
Also, 9:03 was clean asf.
Your ability to multitask while playing is spectacular.
I think it's time Namco picks you up to be 1 of their official commentators during tournaments. Love hearing your voice ( no gay )...very clear...very analytical...a lot of knowledge being shared... Keep it up..!!!
Great video as always, it could be interesting to analyze the heat smash of every character or at least those with special properties (such as Jun for example), I main Victor and I find it frustrating trying to use mine vs others. Also I think Victor's heat smash is quite bad, frame 20 and only 38 dmg?
That custom is really nice
Bro that start of the video, that’s the most aggressive victor I’ve ever seen
ngl I liked this more than your long tutorials. more match analysis please, love seeing the thought process and decision making realtime.
Looking at the comment section, sometimes i feel like tekken players don't know the difference between aggression and mindless aggression cuz watching this game, he played pretty well, was making adjustments as necessary and it ended close, by no means was he destroyed
Hey Phi, Hope you read this but I hope you make a video/guide on how to punish/play around hwoarang/leo's stance offense
good vid and set
man, the real-time adapting and quick thinking is super impressive
Thinking is impressive?
@@kylespevak6781 his ability to make quick adjustments - analyze his opponents and fight them accordingly is impressive
@@can1as Again, thinking. Literally what else are you doing while playing? Autopilot button mashing?
This was awesome to watch. I’m high orange and victors just run me over with their offense
That was an awesome victor!!!!!
Great video.
Keep it up great, coaching
What is the Korean lever are you using ? And also what buttons are you using?
Next guide from PhiDX:
How to deal with post game adrenaline rush.
Winning sets like that is what makes tekken fun
I have a buddy who mains Vic and I cannot punish him because I just didn’t know how. But this vid just broke the mold for me thank you!
for the jun stance, I think u can sidestep duck? looked possible but need to lab that. a little more advanced, but not that much.
"... I have to stop talking"
Continues talking.
Nice set, nice video!
