  • Time to test my BOB (bug-out bag) in the field. If you would like to see the items in the bag then please watch the video that is linked in the introduction of this video. After this test, I feel pretty confident in my little "get home" bag although I am planning to add a little more water if I can make it fit. Thanks for watching! - Clint

keeping a quick deploy tarp and Ridgeline system has saved me valuable time in a few storms.

In a pinch you can use cold or room temperature water with mountain house, just double the time on the back

I'd recommend more water. If there's no more room, you can still buy canteens. Some extra clothing ( jacket, watch cap, swearshirt et c. would be a good idea ). I would also advise switching your Esbit tablet stove for an alcohol stove and folding windscreen.

Another couple of ideas with the heavy duty garbage bags: I like to use the trash compactor bags they are SUPER tough, I use one on the inside of my bag that I put everything in, that way the contents always stay dry, and then I keep one folded and rolled in my outer pocket that I can use for a quick ground mat to put the bag and other gear on, keeps "cleanish" and easy to see

I usually leave the cover/tarp up until I have packed everything else. Sudden bad weather your still covered.

If the Klymit Static V wasnt enough comfort, if you fill two 55 gallon trash bags with leaves and debris, lay them together and the static v on top and it should make it considerably more comfortable. I highly suggest a few overnighters.

I would recommend a dutchware gear ridgeline and ringworm guylines.

Add ya a square foot of aluminum foil to use as a base for your stove. Itll prevent catching the ground on fire, prevent disturbing the ground in case youre being tracked, and raise the temperature of your stove. A worthy fraction of an ounce to add.

My bug out bag weighs about 75 lb and is equipped with almost everything you would need to start over in a bad situation but this is a good video you got great stuff none of the stuff matters unless you know how to use it and that's with practice

I think for a bug out scenario a good MRE would be better , just because it’s made for troops in the field where you have to have high calories and fuel to keep moving, mountain house taste better but I think the MRE would be better in that situation, why did you choose the ground tarp and that sleeping bag ? You have the AWSOME MSS bivy which serves both purposes , and trade the noisy tarp for a good hammock tarp that’s lighter and quieter, the fuel tabs are good but Iam on a toss up between them and a solo stove that burns twigs , I been wanting to get a solo stove for awhile now , when is the next camp out adventure? You owe us a good one lol

I definitely am due a solid overnighter, for sure! I agree that an MRE would provide more calories for consumption over a couple of days versus the one dehydrated meal. I do have a great bivy bag but I don't like the idea of leaving it packed up... then having to take it out when I want to recreational camp with it. My idea for this bag was something I could pack so I was ready, and then forget about. As far as something quieter is concerned, I suppose this bag doesn't function too well as a real SHTF bag, but as a bug-out (get me from point A to B comfortably) it does the trick - wasn't too worried about being stealthy. I like the solo stoves, like the bush buddy or firebox, but am anxious about relying too heavily on "forest fuels" since the terrain/weather I could be traveling on could be unpredictable and unknown. I suppose that's why I went with ease and comfort when designing the bag. In a more serious SHTF situation, this bag would probably not serve me all that well. That was a long answer, but I like the conversation. Thanks for watching and being willing to chat 😊

There is so many things wrong with that video. You could have picked a different spot a better spot, your tarp was way too high, didn't offer any real shelter from anything other than the Sun. That's just the beginning
