      The bluray of Jaws has a great feature in how Universal restored the movie, they explain how the scan the film, the process on how they restored the movie, color correction, create a new film print and also they talked about the audio, how they go from a mono/stereo source to a 7.1 surround; is one extra I always find myself revisiting a lot.
      I hope Collider can do more of this content, is really interesting how they restore films.

    All those things the gentleman was talking about is why film preservation is so important! Especially for older films on more fragile material, but even digital media (though it doesn't physically degrade) can still be lost forever if all copies of the files were somehow deleted/destroyed.

    :47 I'm curious if anyone has ever approached them to restore their own home movies. I'd be curious how they would handle a conversion from a video camera tape (vhs/Hi8) because a lot of the services and converter devices seem to be as cheap and inferior to the what was already admittedly low quality in the first place.
    There are so many vhs sourced videos I see that are really bad (like pixelated internet video in the 90s bad) and I know they don't have to look THAT bad.

The Camera roles will be scanned Bedfore the digital Special effects join and the Cutter Start his work. I do Not Unverstand how and why the Film get a native filmrole after the Movie was cutted on a digital Computer.

    • @AR7271
      @AR7271 Před rokem

      It all depends on how well a film's assets were preserved.
      Take Toy Story, for instance. There was only so much they could do to make that film better.
      Toy Story 2 on the other hand had much better data preservation.
      A lot of films have 2K digital intermediate files for visual effects (to save on budget expenses and time) but I read that the first two Harry Potter films were the rare exception and did them at 4K quality.
