Life in Guyana for Venezuelan Migrants

  • An overview of what life is like for many Venezuelan Migrants in Region 1, Guyana. This however, is just one of a few communities in the Region that have similar lifestyles.
I'm fully aware that there are my fellow Guyanese who are also in dire need of help. However, I've never before seen such terrible living conditions right before my eyes - houses with no walls, the lack of nutrition, clothes and so much more. We are all humans and I believe that those who need it the most should be given first preference. That's why I chose to highlight their situation in this video. Some may say they can help themselves but I think with the right help and push, they can eventually sustain themselves.

It's very sad to say that in the past I grew up watching migrant guyaneses in worse conditions living in slums in my country Venezuela. Those migrants used to work in the constrution sector and as house keepers!

Even though Guyana has ways to go, Guyanese doors are always open to welcome guests but thanks for highlighting the plight of these poor people and hope it will bring attention to relative authority that can give the necessary support. Hello Leanna. Thank you for this enlightening video. Here in Trinidad we have no less than 16,000 Venezuelan immigrants according to official figures, but i am sure it is more. They are hard working people, and local employers generally exploit them. My heart is with these people, and I try to help when I can. Too, some of us send all kinds of supplies to friends in Tucupita, by Venezuelan shipping companies. We pay US$2 per kilo for freight. The receivers are so grateful for what we send. You hear the emotion in their voicemails.I am a retiree, but this has made me so thankful for the life I had, and is still having. I hope there is much more you can do to get persons to help. Best Regards. Ramish. Trinidad & Tobago.

These people are indigenous people. They are the original owners of these lands. Referring to them as "Venezuelan immigrants" although being technically correct misses out the key point I mentioned, before anyone knew anything about Guyana and Venezuela, they living contentedly moving as and when they wanted.
Guyana can provide more assistance to these people. They are victims of circumstances beyond their control which are not of their making.

Whilst I sympathize with the plight of any displaced people, I must say that these people are more fortunate than many Guyanese right in Guyana. They got free land to put a structure and are able to live there. No one is driving them off the land they occupy. Many Guyanese would love the privilege of a piece of land to build somewhere to live but can't get it.

Dear Leana ... these conditions that you shown in this video are very bad for our fellow humans....these are migrants and they live in deplorable conditions earth wide.. the Haitians under a bridge in Texas, the Afghans feeing to Pakistan/ North African/ Rohinga Muslims etc .... however what about our own Guyanese Amerindians? Our Citizens? right in region one .. Guyanese citizens are living in WAY WAY more deplorable conditions than in this video ... from Port Kaituma to Baramita... I was shocked when I went in 2018 ... just 4 post and a few branches, a few hammocks and they are on the bare ground , no walls, no elevation off the ground and some no hammock, not forgetting the malaria virus around those parts .. toilets? Thats just a track into the forest ... it’s very insane to see Guyanese living like this in these days.
My family are currently in the process to go in there and help people ...they are also learning the Carib language to better understand what the people want rather than ( like aid groups) just go in there are give the folks what they think they need. If you Visit Baramita it’s worse in the jungle... but thank you very much for the video ❤️ appreciate it. Jupa (greetings in Carib)

@@lafelagnos3628 the site had deactivated the account because it assumed I was trying to withdraw the from from a bank account in Guyana (which cannot work) because i didn't enter the bank account info yet. I had to email them and tell them that's not the case so they reactivated it this morning. My apologies for the inconvenience. Here's the new link: gofund.me/58137327

🦦 NOPE….. That Land is Fertile…. Two / Three Crops can be Grow in a Year - Every Year… After Three Years this “Settlement” should have been Self-Sufficient to the point that there was Excess Food (Fruits & Vegetables & Provisions) to Sell or Trade. Everyone Digs/Sows/Reaps - Everyone Benefits!

What a shame!!! The Guyana govt should form a committee to really look into the basic needs of these refugees because this is what they are...and they fled from political corruption and insecurity....so sad to seen them living under these conditions!!!

Blame the west and amerikan imperialism for the reasons of Venezuelan migration, the same neo-colonialists and imperialists who are attempting to reap Guyana of its resources. Guyana and Venezuela must unite as scions of the masses, and champions of theself-determination of the people of South America

I dont want to rain on your post but eots be honest.. you stayed in a home with a roof? Drove in a nice vehicle and toured poor areas to "asses" this is the problem NGOs are the problem yet they think they do good.
You want to help people like this take your money directly to them and buy things and supplies they need and at the same time learn about them and there culture etc..
Don't keep feeding the NGO machine!

Thank you for your comment. And because many people don't trust NGOs, I was advised to start a fund to help them myself. You don't have any reason to trust me either but I trust myself & asking you to trust me and help me to help them by donating to this GoFundMe campaign I've set up since I cannot do it alone: :gofund.me/58137327
      Thank you.

Why doesn't Venezuela show videos like this to show the world what the Guyanese people are doing for the Venezuelan migrants?! Why are they hiding?!
