- Today we play our third game of Bolt Action. We're expanding the forces and expanding the table as we work our way to a 1,000 point game. If you have any suggestions for terrain, especially terrain that can be 3d printed, let me know in the comments below.
We do these for love of the hobby. You can support our efforts with a like on this video and feel free to subscribe for more content.

Great form factor on the batrep here guys! Concise, entertaining, and visually appealing. Keep it up!
Thanks! Will do!
These are the BEST Bolt Action battle reports I've seen and they get better every time! Thanks for taking the time to bring them to us and I look forward to the next one!
Thanks, buddy. I have a friend with some Russians and Japanese and he’s ready to spice things up. I’m inspiring others to paint their armies so they can be displayed. :)
@@MiniatureGameMontage That German Leutnant goes down so often his name should be Monica Lewinsky. :D
Cheers for the video fellas! The Americans with the webbing on the helmets look great and I love the camo on the German infantry. You make the game look relatively simple to learn, I might give it a look when I've finished with my Bloodbowl projects. Keep up the good work!
Glad you enjoyed it. I want to get Bloodbowl but I just don't know where I'm going to fit it in, sadly. I have so much to paint!
@@MiniatureGameMontage Bloodbowl second season is available for about £68 from third party retailers. Dunno what price in dollars but it's good value for money with two full teams, two star players, troll, Ogre and two referees. Very nice miniatures just be careful with griffs head when assembling if you do get it.
Enjoyed that. Great table and painted mins
Thank you!
I am really liking these Bolt Action videos! Can’t wait to see more.
Glad you like them! I've got an opponent lined up for January if everything works out.
Love your battle reports; very well done. My only wish is the there are more shots of the entire table instead of just close ups. It’s hard to get a proper perspective some times but that’s just one guy’s opinion. Plus the tables look beautiful and I’d love to see it all at once. One rule error I noticed was when your M4 took out more than half of that German squad, they should have taken an immediate MC. (Unless that is no longer a rule in 2nd edition; we only play 1st edition.) Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to think about that moving forward. As for the rules, we're slowly getting there. This was my third game ever so still lots of things to take in. Cheers.
These videos are dramatic, nice tank fire graphics, and the tactics are easy to follow.
Thanks I try to narrate it so people can catch our mistakes and help us improve
Hello what I see is very beautiful. Some little things the Germans moved while shooting at the AT moved in such a way that they need +1 on their dice. Another thing that I find difficult is that you don't think ahead. Put things outside and so on, or try shooting hidden troops with double sixs instead of taking a run to be up close for the next round. A perfect example is the German officer, you could have hidden behind the trees so you wouldn't have to go down.
The German squads in the end could attack Ambush. From Ambush you can still go down if you get fire and if you fail, go down anyway. So nothing to lose, everything to gain.
I am very excited about this Batrep, thank you for all your effort and time in making such well-painted miniatures and beautiful Batreps available to a wider audience.
Thank you! Great feedback. I'm hoping to get another report out in the next few weeks. :)
When you pass a morale check you remove 1 pin marker. Only rally action allows multiple pins to be removed.
Great camera work!
Thank you. :)
@@MiniatureGameMontage Can you tell me if Rubicon 1/56 sale models work and look good for bolt action
thank you for the great content (:
@@tankmasterusadipiano582 Hi, while I don't have any Rubicon models I have heard they fit very well with Bolt Action. I did some research and comparisons on them and I think you can get away with either. The Rubicon models are slightly bigger I think but on the tabletop they look great. Thanks for watching.
@@MiniatureGameMontage Thank you
Great battle, and great job on the video.
Glad you enjoyed it. We certainly plan on doing more. Thank you!
Nice game. Thanks for posting.Keep it up.
Thanks, will do!
Super Solid "BatMontRep"!
The deft touch with the sfx definitely a montage multiplier whilst not overpowering anything.
That game got Clausewitz to nod sagely. The surrounders are surrounded? The surrounded are surrounding their surrounders!

"I love the smell of The Fog of War in the morning!"
Really Good game with the ebb n flow.
May Naught but the Best Befall You n Yours Throughout the Season and Beyond.
Merry Xmas
LOL! Thanks a bunch. Merry Christmas!
We’re playing our first game tomorrow. Your videos are a great help! Thanks! 🙏🏻
Thanks! Just keep in mind that I make mistakes here and there :)
@@MiniatureGameMontage no worries, mate. I’ve binged all of them. Will you do more?
I just realized that maybe a 1000 pts isn’t that much...
@@Peter-ri9ie Yes, I'm trying to schedule another game. I would recommend starting small to get a grip on the rules. I think tournament circuits do 1,250 points. Not totally sure on that.
Good looking game and I enjoyed the pacing of the video.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
What an interesting game. I know necromunda is your big thing but I love the bolt action content from you guys. Keep it up!
Thanks! I love Bolt Action and I'm always looking for opponents. Just been hard to find someone to play lately which bums me out.
Fantastic battle report very nice 😁👍
Thanks guys :)
Great report, very nice armies!
Many thanks! Got another one coming up soon.
You guys did that very well. The few mistakes that were made you seemed to have caught most of them. For the Sherman tank. When a vehicle receives turret jam as this tank did. The turret swings toward the enemy that engaged it and caused the turret jam. So if the Sherman tank were to fire again his turret would of been facing the Panzer IV and that’s the position it would of been stuck in. Next, when the Panzer IV hit on the 3. That tank has a pen of 6 and the side shot gives you +7 penetration. The Sherman has armour of 9. So by rolling the 5 you beat the armour by 3. When you beat armour by 3 or more, that causes “massive damage”.That means you would get two separate rolls on the damage chart if needed. Also I will mention. Since the Sherman was already immobilized, on another roll that results in immobilization, the vehicle is destroyed. Both mistakes I listed just happen to not matter in this game and it all worked out for you guys. When started the video you described each squad in detail but then you didn’t really describe the tanks. That Panzer IV may of had the shurtzen rule. And as for the Sherman you never said it had the extra pintle mounted MMG and there is also a “catches fire easy” rule that is good to address at the beginning of games. One piece of advice to the German player in this game... for turn 6 when you went down with your two infantry squads, next time just put them in ambush. By being in ambush you could of stopped the US infantry squad from moving out from the tree line on that last move of theirs. Because I doubt the US player would of risked running out into the open just to be shot at by a ton of German fire. In this case I’m sure the US squad would of taken plenty of causalities and a pin which also would of hurt the US when it came to them firing back. I mention this because this is a big deal in this case. The US has the “fire and movement” special rule. And even if you were in ambush and decided not to shoot at the US infantry as they moved you can then go down with the ambush order. Ambush orders can be sprung to either fire (can only fire at moving targets) or down orders. So you would of forced the US to shoot from the tree line in this case and you would of still been able to go down. Once again this just happened to work out for the Germans but if there was a round 7 that choice you made could of been a game deciding factor. I know that was long winded but important to know I feel. Good job on everything though. Defiantly one of the cleaner videos I’ve seen and you did better on the rules than a lot of other videos with much more experienced players.
Thanks that’s really good feedback and I appreciate the tactics. I have an opponent coming up who is really good on the rules so I’m hoping he can teach me a thing or two as well. Thanks for watching and taking the time to share your thoughts.
Love watching these, great job with these short but super packed bat rep. You nailed these small bat reps that make you feel like I was there the whole time while you filmed it. Thanks!
Appreciate it! That's what I'm going for. :)
Nice and concise presentation. I agree that showing the entire table from the top once in a while gives a better understanding of the overall situation. See Tabletop CP videos. As far as play tactics, I often go Down with units, when they are threatened with being weakened, and have units support each other. I am thinking that successful play is like conducting an orchestra, or playing a chess match, and constantly gauging what the opponent’s capabilities are in terms of units that have not been ordered yet.
Just bought the band of brothers set, and these videos are informative and inspiring. Thanks!
Such a good set. That’s much of what you see in our reports. Thanks for watching and for your comment. Cheers!
What do you use for the wheat fields?
@@NathanielBroombiz a cut up welcome mat for your front door. :) flip it upside down and your hobby knife will cut straight through it. Easy and cheap terrain
@@MiniatureGameMontage I thought it must have been some kind of carpet or something.
My new favorite channel!
Thanks!
I like that the game is very fair, you are making smart moves on both sides of the board
Thanks! We’ve got another one coming up early April.
Well done!
Subscribed !
Thanks - Should have a new report out for Bolt Action soon.
Just watched #2 and this one back to back. This looks super fun and your boards look gorgeous! Please keep these coming!
Thanks so much! We've got more planned. :)
@@MiniatureGameMontage PUMPED!
Fantastic battle report. I love seeing more BA content. Reminds me of my own father teaching me about miniwargaming. I can only hope to pass on the hobby to my future children eventually!
Wouldn't change a thing about the way you do the video. As others have said your format is probably the best I've seen on CZcams. You mentioned some of your terrain is 3d printed, was that done by you or did you purchase those from somewhere? And where did you get your non3d printed terrain if you don't mind me asking? Hoping to play some bolt action with my father sometime soon once I get my germans built and painted.
Thanks for your feedback :) I do a lot of 3d printing myself. I have an Ender 3 V2 and it was well worth the $200 investment. A lot of the non-3d printed stuff is Battlefield in a Box and Warlord's Church piece. I also make some myself like the hedges with a cut up welcome mat and clump foilage. Thanks for watching.
Really nice work
A surprising game
I always look forward to your MontReps ;)
Thanks a lot. I always look forward to your comments :)
Very easy and fun to watch. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Lovely minis and terrain, great looking game!
Thanks! We have another game coming up soon.
Enjoyable battle report I was on the edge of my seat. Rules FYI Officers get Extra Orders, so your 2nd LT when given an order you may draw a second order out of the Bag and issue it in Effect getting 2 orders
Thank you! I appreciate the watch and the feedback. I just subbed to your channel as well :)
Great format, showing the action but not making us sit through a 3 hour game in real time. One point of feedback, I would even prefer you left out some of the inconsequential dice rolling. Just say "these guys fired, but missed". Or take the opportunity to ramp up the narrative with a more colourful, but still brief, description, your call.
Excellent feedback. Thank you for commenting. I agree that it could be edited down a bit more. That's an area of focus for me. :)
I’d love to see more bolt action battle reports
I've got an opponent for January and hopefully some Russians and Japanese to go along with it. More to come for sure. Thanks for watching.
@@MiniatureGameMontage awesome, this is helping decide what army I should start with
Ah, it's so good to see some BA batrep! Great job guys.
Thanks we have another coming in January. :)
Great game as ever, thank you for sharing. The Americans might possibly have benefited from Ambushing for this scenario, but other than that this was a good close fought game. Thanks again!
Thanks - glad it was enjoyable! I appreciate the view and comment :)
Great work keep it up?
Great bar rep. Fun to watch. Love the church. What kit is that?
Thanks, it’s a warlord kit. You can find it on their webstore but I picked up mine pretty cheap from an FLGS.
Good game. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the visit!
Great little game, well executed👍🏻
Thanks! I’m lining up another game soon with a tournament leader so he’ll be able to teach me some things
Enjoyed that , thanks
Thanks! We have more planned
How do you paint the Americans? they look amazing would love to know how you go about them
Thank you! I'm not totally sure and will need to paint another one up. I have too many greens but I think the primary color is Vallejo US Dark Green, washed and highlighted back up. Then highlights of Army Painter Army Green. The webbing is Vallejo Iraqi sand with Agrax Earthshade wash and highlighted back up. Boots are vallejo mahogany brown.
@@MiniatureGameMontage they look absolutely fantastic
@@storm_blazer-xd983 I appreciate it :)
Where is all of this fantastic terrain coming from?
3d printed houses and walls. The church is warlord, the roads are battlefield in a box. Some homemade hedges and crops. Thanks for watching.
Love this game, wish it was played around here
I’ll keep giving you some battle reports until that happens :)
@@MiniatureGameMontage if you ever get time to play message me on facebook man, I'm james Crichton.
@@GiftofChaosStudio Awesome! Thanks for watching. :) I'll definitely send you a message.
Nice looking table! Where do you get those roads?
Thanks - they are Battlefield in a Box Rural Roads. Sometimes hard to find but they are still in production to my knowledge.
I like to imagine the tank took an extra turn to get on the board because it was flanking the Germans.
Nice report but sometimes it would help if you expand on what score is needed and why such as when the Sherman was taken out otherwise it's just watching dice getting rolled with no real understanding of what's going on if you're not familiar with the rules.
Good feedback! Thank you!
I notice in most Bolt Action games, nobody ever uses the inside of buildings for cover or to get a shot on the enemy from above as in a bell tower. Is this common? Are the buildings only large obstacles?
There are rules for buildings but since we're a bit newer we didn't want to open another segment while trying to grasp the basics. Most of my buildings due open up so maybe one day we'll incorporate it. For us it was just easier not to.
I don’t know if there were enough units on the board for the “must win by two” to really be fair.
That's a fair observation. Thanks for your comment. :)
I am getting the two player starter set and I am wondering if you have any recommendations for where to get some terrain for our table. Any advice appreciated! I love the montage battle reports.
Thanks! For terrain, I would research mdf kits for bang for buck. Waylandgames has a large selection to look at. Then grab a welcome mat and cut it up for some crop fields. Get some railroad trees and you’re putting everything together at a low cost. My road kit is battlefield in a box and they make some good stuff as well. I find the 15mm roads still work very well in bolt actions scale. Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching.
I though if you are assaulting/targeting the tank, then the fear doesn't apply?
Not sure as I'm still learning as well. I believe tank fear requires you to pass an order test if you assault unless you're a tank hunter. For that, the infantry would need anti-tank grenades.
Where are your buildings from?
I 3D printed them. They are on thingiverse if you search for Normandy buildings.
What size base is the US Anti-Tank gun mounted?
I believe 60mm. It's a little over 2.25" in diameter.
My American pride keeps taking hits for every loss. 🇺🇸
