St Thomas Aquinas Prayer Before Communion/ After Mass
Almighty and everlasting God, behold I come to the Sacrament of Thine only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ: I come as one infirm to the physician of life, as one unclean to the fountain of mercy, as one blind to the light of everlasting brightness, as one poor and needy to the Lord of heaven and earth. Therefore I implore the abundance of Thy measureless bounty that Thou wouldst vouchsafe to heal my infirmity, wash my uncleanness, enlighten my blindness, enrich my poverty and clothe my nakedness, that I may receive the Bread of Angels, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, with such reverence and humility, with such sorrow and devotion, with such purity and faith, with such purpose and intention as may be profitable to my soul’s salvation. Grant unto me, I pray, the grace of receiving not only the Sacrament of our Lord’s Body and Blood, but also the grace and power of the Sacrament. O most gracious God, grant me so to receive the Body of Thine only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, which He took from the Virgin Mary, as to merit to be incorporated into His mystical Body, and to be numbered amongst His members. O most loving Father, give me grace to behold forever Thy beloved Son with His face at last unveiled, whom I now purpose to receive under the sacramental veil here below.
    Amen.
St Thomas Aquinas Prayer Before Communion/ After Mass
St Thomas Aquinas Prayer After Communion/After Mass
I give thanks to Thee, O Lord, most holy, Father almighty, eternal God, that Thou hast vouchsafed, for no merit of mine own, but out of Thy pure mercy, to appease the hunger of my soul with the precious body and blood of Thy Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Humbly I implore Thee, let not this holy communion be to me an increase of guilt unto my punishment, but an availing plea unto pardon and salvation. Let it be to me the armour of faith and the shield of good will. May it root out from my heart all vice; may it utterly subdue my evil passions and all my unruly desires. May it perfect me in charity and patience; in humility and obedience; and in all other virtues. May it be my sure defence against the snares laid for me by my enemies, visible and invisible. May it restrain and quiet all my evil impulses, and make me ever cleave to Thee Who art the one true God. May I owe to it a happy ending of my life. And do Thou, O heavenly Father, vouchsafe one day to call me, a sinner, to that ineffable banquet, where Thou, together with Thy Son and the Holy Ghost, art to Thy saints true and unfailing light, fullness of content, joy for evermore, gladness without alloy, consummate and everlasting happiness. Through the same Christ our Lord.
    Amen.

Outline/Timestamps. Hopefully not too much of my voice in the descriptions
0:51 - Introduction, Fr Mann, and Parochial Vicar v Pastor distinction
4:40 - Outline of video, debate (available for Patreon) as prompt, St Thomas on the Eucharist, "study history deep and and honest will become Catholic"
8:07 - Fr Mann conversion story (briefly)
9:11 - return to "deep in history" idea, Eucharist in early Church time, Christianity's radical claims
12:35 - St Thomas and the feast of Corpus Christi tradition
14:18 - St Thomas Homily excerpt about the Eucharist
17:04 - St Thomas' Prayer to prepare for Mass
21:09 - story about about Fr Jacques Philippe, praying out of our poverty, analogy for Pride (lengthy section, very good)
24:49 - Matt ascends to the seventh mansion ;)
26:35 - Define and discuss Mental Prayer, temptation to "accomplish" prayer instead of sit in vulnerability
31:15 - intermission to acknowledge the commenters
31:45 - St Thomas' prayer reminds Matt of Revelation Chapter 3, the desire of having it "all figured out" on social media, brokenness as a prerequisite for repentance
38:22 - practical application, putting up walls makes it difficult to love well, Matt and Cameron
39:57 - Fr Mann, priestly example, "tone of mercy" from the Church to encourage parishioners to be confident in coming to Confession
43:45 - Clarity vs Charity around Pope Francis, desire for stability, need for nuance
49:05 - danger of "reacting" by swinging the pendulum to the opposite extreem; first mention of "Lifeteen" style music, need to agree where we're in common rather than prioritize rejecting the errors/excesses of other people; importance of personal holiness
54:57 - ease of falling into arrogance when we criticize out of anger
57:05 - "Holy Mother" Church acts like a mother: providing options so all may have a path they relate to most when pursuing Jesus; and it is OK for you not to be enthusiastic about all of them
58:31 - comments turn towards a desire for reverence, as Fr Mann urges caution in imposing ritual on people not yet ready for it; "lifeteen" discussion begins with some pros/cons
1:04:17 - Begin conversation prompted by Commenters; first, Importance of Tradition and Clarity, recognizing that cultural expression can be different
1:05:54 - second, allowance for diversity of practice in the uniformity of belief; Fr Mann describes how faith allows people to question, and question doesn't mean dissent
1:08:39 - third, plurality of practice in faith *outside* of the Mass setting, not as appropriate within Mass; fourth commenter agrees about need for reverence, Fr Mann shares benefits he's seen from the Lifeteen style
1:15:55 - fifth, development of appreciation for liturgical reverence is ok
1:17:30 - Fr Mann discusses how the prayer of St Thomas asks for particular dispositions, don't be afraid of stating what you lack
1:19:46 - appreciation for show sponsor; Catholic Woodworker
1:21:27 - invitation for final commenter questions, and Fr Mann life-update
1:22:33 - Commenter questions begin, and my task ends

On Tradition in Church: Aquinas in Summa Contra Gentiles talks about hypostasis and how eastern and western Church are divided not because of understanding something, which they understood the same but the hung on different word usage. This is great warning for us to focus on who Christ really is, not what we call Him.

There is a difference between worship and rejoicing. Mass is for direct, intense, focused worship . Youth programs, extra curricular fun at the church and car music is praise and rejoicing with thanksgiving.

      Some humble suggestions.
      Before seeing the person :
      1. Be as holy as possible, the mere presence of a holy person communicates the grace of God, Eucharistic adoration is very useful for this purpose.
      2. Consecrate yourself to St. Michael the Archangel and make a habit of praying Pope Leo XIII's exorcism prayer.
      3. Join the exorcism prayer group of Fr. Ripperger, if you're somewhat holy.
      While seeing the person :
      1. Have some credibility in their eyes, show that you're not uneducated in psychology.
      2. Tell them that you want to prayer for them just for good mesure, just in case, no "big deal," using Pope Leo XIII prayer.
      3. Bring them to holy places, have them interact with holy things without noticing (ex. holy water, etc).
Final solution (no pun intended lol) : Invite them to church, use all the excuses in the world but make them go with you.

    • @sherrywhite1517
      @sherrywhite1517 Před 4 lety +1

Pray for them and especially encourage them to partake of the Sacrament of Reconciliation; exorcist priests advise that the Sacrament if actually more powerful than an exorcism. Be very careful about laying any hands on them; consult a good, solid priest first.

      @johnnewburn4750 Před 3 lety

when my grandparents were on the Healing and Deliverance team, they supported the exorcist and prayed for God to be present, but were supposed to let only the exorcist directly confront the demon of a possessed person. It's good practice that way. I'm not an expert.

At 57:02, "The beautiful thing about the Catholic Church is you can receive in the mouth or hand."" ....The beautiful thing about the Church didn't exist until the 70s and is absent in the Eastern churches? That cannot be true.

    • @justinleraris2850
      @justinleraris2850 Před 4 lety

Respectfully, I think you are missing the point. I think his point was that our sanctification is more important than rubrics. If we focus and argue over these various minor details like whether you receive by mouth or by hand, we are more worried about being right than we are being transformed. In that sense, I think he is right.

Around 57:00, you're right that some Traddies are nutty elitists.
But the whole in/out groups thing... let's remember, the criminal establishment within the hierarchy was the one out-grouping us. Not the other way around.
At my wedding I sent the priest at the parish I grew up with, a packet of everything I wanted at the Mass - and he said fine. When I show up for the rehearsal (he obviously didn't read it) and he started screaming at the top of his lungs at my and my fiancée. Tantruming about everything. In all our wedding pictures where he's in the shot, he's scowling at the camera.
Now, I'm not saying some platitudinous thing about how some N.O. priests are fanatics.
What I'm saying -and this is the takeaway - is that all this fear about rude and elitist unwelcoming trades is wildly misplaced. Most TLM goers have a similar story. It is just projection to pretend that TLM lovers are more guilty than the establishment. The establishment is more guilty of everything you're complaining about than the dozens of vocal online trads.

Wow... You have no idea. I prayed for this today....
Listen, I go to a N.O. mass close to home, as we have no TLM near us, and after listening to Dr. Taylor Marshall probably a year ago, I felt like I almost completely lost the faith because FEAR that salvation was not possible due to attending an N.O. mass is continuously being indirectly taught through words that are not carefully spoken. I was literally losing hope and what kept me pushing through those temptations was 1) confession 2) the rosary and prayer and 3) HOPE in our Lord Jesus Christ, because he can SAVE satanists, so why can he not work through N.O. masses? I spend hours daily praying and contemplating and continuously working to grow in Holiness because I deeply desire it, and I am a piece of work. Lol.y point is, because of many traditional Catholics not being careful with judgements and claims, I could have left the faith -- but by the grace of God, it is stronger than ever - still attending my N.O. mass.
Dr. Taylor Marshall came up again today and I watched cautiously, but I truly relived that fear. I prayed and God delivered... You. Thank you. This is so important.
