If the winch on the dozer works hook it to trees, pull it back to the shop, repair it, and have fun leveling the house. If you go the blow it up route, maybe do a public service video and level the house with a propane leak explosion. Invite the fire department to do training but there will probably be nothing left burning for them to put out. My house had propane, is now all electric and going solar.

I would like to see the dozer fixed or replaced and things to improve your property. Possibly add farm animals and your struggles and what you've learned there. I'm sure you have a long list of things you'd like to improve. Adding more solar? Finding more water (drilling? rain water collection? Dam? Pond?). Maybe thinning the forest for better wood production and improved fire safety, while selling the wood or lumber. Or even milling lumber for another outbuilding.

I want to see no rushed videos. If you don't have the time, just put up a short saying so. Unregular video intervals before rushed videos any day. And keep doing these mixed update videos, you can even include all the footage you didn't think deserved its own video. I promise your viewers are much less picky than you are as long as it's honest updates to what you are up to.

Don't blow up the cabin, You have debris everywhere & as Oliver grows up, its possible he might get cut or or some other injury from sharp metal, nails, etc scattered over the property. Probably a burn pile/bond fire would be more appropriate. If you want to blow up something I should be rock (ie for road or some other properly improvement -> Andrew Camarata). Camarata gets good views on deconstructing old homes using an excavator.
I think working on a home for your family would be a better project to start in 2024. The Shopaninium is not going to cut it long term, especially with Oliver. Perhaps 3 or 4 bedroom home. That said I have no idea if you run into the same issues with your driveway with mud/snow/ice. Maybe partner with home builder YT channels for increasing channel subscribers. I recommend either Stick frame or timber frame home, not something made using shipping container. We know you're good at that! but can you do something more traditional?
      Hope this was useful!

As someone who owns and rents a lot of heavy equipment, anytime you rent or loan equipment, TAKE PHOTOS, detailed photos, before you fire it up the first time and when you send it back. @AmbitionStrikes My fault, I should have personally looked at the machine before I sent it back. Operator using the floor as a dip cup and not clearing trash, not cleaning the tracks, etc. Any tracked machine you have you have got to clean the tracks out if they are packed with dirt and mud, ESPECIALLY in the winter. You just eat the undercarriage alive operating it without cleaning the tracks and other proper maintenance. Undercarriage runs north of $30,000. Although with your abilities and the equipment you have you might be able to tackle it yourself and save on labor.

I really appreciate the honesty of this video. From Courtney's, "What did you buy?" that was off camera. Marriage, big projects, etc. aren't always peaches and roses with everyone always on the same page. So many channels make it look like someone is living a life of unattainable bliss. Then there's the smelly attic. I can relate. I put a septic system in for our temporary building the 5th wheel is in while we build our house and didn't install a vent. I keep saying when the weather is better I'll put that in...and then get busy. Every time we empty the tanks there is an "odor", and it's a 30 minute job!!! That reminds me... To the angst of potentially owing $400k. I haven't been that deep but years ago we spent $110k on a piece of land to find out it was likely worthless because of an Osprey nest, then we got a $25k bill from the state for wetland mitigation for something that was already there when we bought the land (both of those problems eventually went away), then we drilled 6 wells before hitting water. Man, that kind of stuff just weighs on you 24/7. It's indescribable. The the honesty of the water condensing unit (I appreciate that you took that video down and why you took it down). And finally the honesty of trying to be a content creator. Rather you feel like it our not, you just gave birth, your sick, etc. you have to get out there and appear upbeat. You have to create projects that people will be interested in and there's always a deadline....at the end of the day it's a full time a job.

Rewatched the abandoned cabin video to refresh my memory… the site itself is quite awesome due to the views, spoiled by all the trash so cleanup is in order… carry off all the scrap metal first, then sort through all the junk in the cabin to recycle or salvage, dig a hole to burn what can’t be used, assuming that is allowed, then disassemble the “cabin” to salvage the material… once that is stacked and sorted out of the way, get a forestry mulcher head and clear the site and surrounding area to your liking… as much rock as y’all have on that property it would seem you could create a nice base for a foundation using gabion style wire boxes for the guest cabin, bring them up high enough and those 8 foot studs from the cabin could make 10-12 foot ceilings, use 2x6 plates and stagger the studs to get the R-Value up… I’m envisioning a craftsman style look reminiscent of the Timberline lodge near Mt Hood (WPA project if I recall correctly) Not a fan of blowing stuff up, big fan of building stuff up ; )

I like that you show the fails along with the wins. It's a healthy dose of reality rather then all sunshine and rainbows, so others contemplating the journey can know up front that there are risks involved. And the fact that you are still together after all that's happened, that's your biggest win. Most couples I know would have ended long before this point. As for the dozer, if you're choosing not to fix it. I'd say sell it for parts or give it away, with new owner responsible for removing it. Making sure to get a video of the new owner's recovery process of getting it out of there. Such videos normally do well in views and likes. And added bonuses to this option; no money out of your pocket, no risk of accidental injury or property damage from using explosives, it's other peoples time/labor/expense that removes the dozer for you.

I have had to fight in Court over rental equipment. I check any equipment fully and have the rental business record my concerns. We were reassembling a concrete plant back in the 90's and needed two cranes to put aggregate bins 90 feet in the air. As we were setting up for the first lift one of the booms bent with no load on it at all. One of the owners was actually filming the before during and after for this project, Thankfully! But the video was able to prove the the boom had been bent and covered up by the previous renter because was started before the crane was delivered and continued until we discovered the bend. It took almost a year to get the incident cleared up. Glad that y'all were able to get it settled. I do enjoy watching the progress that y'all have my made and show the good and bad. Off grid living is unique to each setup and there's always going to be parts that have to be reconfigured to your specific homestead. So many people would have given up, or even divorced, but not the two of you. You persevered and overcame. Keep doing what you are doing and you will have many followers rooting you on. I think blowing up the cabin would be a great idea. That way you would have smaller pieces to bring down off the mountain. However, with that said, I think you need someone to come and do it and not do it yourselves. Maybe you can push the button. Blessings to you both. Love your channel. It is entertaining, full of enthusiasm and optomisim. Anything you two put your minds to, you put great effort into making it work, and things works out fine. Even if you have to come back and tweak it afterwards. And don't be so hard on yourself about the Cat. It could have happened to anyone. Look how much you accomplished with it. It was a workhorse breaking up all that stone, and you have a beautiful driveway to show for it. No more heading home on snowmobiles. Love you guys!!!

I agree. I grew up on a farm in NC where the landowners donated their abandoned farmhouses to the local FD for training. Partnering with the forestry service on a control burn will provide training that will be invaluable to them and us the viewers not to mention that a pile of ash is way easier to manage and is better for the environment than the trash that's in that house getting blown all over the place.

Most channels would have jumped on TOTALED excavator. The fact that you were hesitant about putting this video out says a lot about your character on CZcams. Thanks for telling the story because though it may be your fault, that was what the insurance was for and you weren’t reckless for views. Accidents happen and now we all are smarter for how a decision to total equipment happens. Your year has been lots wins and major moves forward in progress on your property. Thanks for taking us along and sharing your family with us.

Hey guys! I thoroughly enjoy watching your channel! I haul heavy equipment and I TOTALLY feel your pain on the Cat 330. I hit a low tree branch and destroyed a windshield on a brand new Hitachi ZW-180 Wheel Loader. It also dented the portion above the windshield and as you found out, that is part of the rollover protection and is federally mandated. The entire cab had to be replaced at the cost of over $29k! Luckily my insurance took care of it but I know exactly how you felt.
As for the train, I loved the videos! I could see how excited you guys were and for me that was part of the fun. I'm sorry it didn't generate a lot of views but please don't feel discouraged because you guys seriously have the BEST channel on CZcams! Keep up the great work and thank you!

That train video is cool! 😎 It will be popular again near next Christmas..
About CAT, this is lesson, how to handle rental equipment.
When getting it, inspect and take photos. Before starting job at morning, inspect it. Then there will be 100% confidence when something happened and who is guilty.. If something suspicious or looks wrong, call rental office.
My suspicion is, that insurance was in charge about decision to scrap the CAT.. But great, that it was insured.
Waiting for new projects and lots of great videos in this year too! 👍

Guys, thank you so much for posting this, I mean generally your videos are chronological and fun to watch, but a little haphazard in terms of storytelling. All these things that you mentioned, which actually happened which you did not let into the videos, you should actually include. They are interesting, create a story and make it more realistic. And do include your disappointments and sad moments, they are as much a part of living as are fun moments. Thanks for the great content! By the way, Oliver is so sweet!

Hey Riley, I've rented a lot of equipment as a contractor, haha, but not a huge excavator, equipment breaks! That's why you get the best insurance as possible, I'm stoked you only had to pay the deductible... * Also I have an attorney on retainer. 😂

The Christmas train video was great! We loved it! Even though you guys don't know most of us from Adam, you seem like family to many of us, at least to me and the wife, and we are very proud of all your accomplishments! That excavator incident was unfortunate, but actually the $2,500 extra cost out of pocket was just a road expense in the end. I think it might be time to pass the big dozer on to the next person, and if you need a bigger dozer get one in the D-5 to D-6 range. Much easier to handle, load, get repairs done on, etc. You guys have a lot to be proud of this past year, especially little Oliver, and we are looking forward to many more episodes! And I vote for a small, well contained explosion in the old house. After you clean some of the trash out first, you don't want all the trash spread all over your property! We love you guys!

Loved the train, not only it was fun but the detail how you two did it is motivating. My daughter and wife both have worked for car/truck rental companies and a lesson that was drummed into me was ALWAYS get the top insurance available. Second, ALWAYS take copious amounts of photos of every angle and parts of the vehicle you are hiring. You may never think you need it, but it would have confirmed immediately whether you were accountable for the damage to the CAT. Glad that the claim and the goodwill all worked in your favour. Finally, check with your local council before doing anything to the old hut. Had a similar situation on our land and ended fighting in court as they contested fire breaks, habitat and heritage listings. Needless to say the lawyers won and were able to retire on their earnings from us. We lost total control of our own land which we had owned for over 100 years, devalued our assets and were finally forced to develop the property to housing to regain most of the legal costs incurred.
