Several years ago on the way to Bielefeld, Germany to see a game I got talking to the chief scout at Birmingham City. He recommended that I get into scouting. I did 9 courses & got qualified. I went to scout my first game at Leamington, did my report but it never got sent. I only found this out when the club I scouted for told me, needless to say I was extremely angry, upset & heartbroken as I’d worked my ass off for 9 months to qualify as a scout. I got zero help, support on my report so I had to “hit & hope for the best”. I want so much to get into scouting as it combines 2 things I love travelling & watching football. Thanks so much for doing this video it’s given me plenty of food for thought.
Great video mate, absolutely nailed it on the head with how to start out. I myself started out back in March (I did do a course) and now I am a 1st team scout for Stockport. LinkedIN definitely is the holy grail when searching for that foot in the door. Keep it up mate and hopefully see you on the circuit!
Thank you Scott! It’s much appreciated. Congratulations on the new role! I did spot this on LinkedIn as well. Hopefully you can get stuck into so scouting this season and hopefully our paths will cross! All the best ⚽️⚽️
Which course did you do mate? I managed to do the level 1 talent identification on the FA website and there’s another 4 levels
Hi Scott am a football looking to get a chance
Nice video mate. Very helpful
Well done for sharing Josh 👀⚽️
Thank you brother! Great job.
Thank you for this.
Great Video! Watching from Barbados
Very informative video. Thanks.
Loved this video! I plan on trying some of your suggestions. Particularly liked the idea of scouting for a club outside your region, I never thought of that and it’s a great idea!
Thanks for sharing...definitely taking on the suggestions
Thanks, its good video, thank you so much, have good time, cheers
Hey mate! Thank you so much for the video,
really good insights about the job too. I still have a few questions though, is there anyway I can reach out to you? Thanks!
Hello brother! Great video! I just wanted to ask....is the PFSA course worth it? Also...how would the approach to this career be different here in America than over in the UK? All love bro🤘🏻
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge mate. Very helpful.
surprised this doesn't have more views, great job explaining everything! thank you so much for this info
Thank you Joey! Really appreciate your feedback. Hopefully it gives people at least somewhere to start in the industry! All the best
Since you talking bout networking, I’d like to network with you and learn more. Will be a privilege.
thank you very much I discovered this video 2 years later.
Did you study (sports for example) before having these opportunities?
Looking Into doing some scouting courses online, great informative video and hopefully bump into you in the future
i wanna get into any type of scouting.
Awesome video mate, very insightful and fascinating to hear your advice. I myself have just signed up for the PFSA scouting programme and looking to cut my teeth throughout the summer and into next season and your tips on building a database will be very beneficial. Thanks again!
How did the PFSA scouting programme go? Did you think it was beneficial/worth it? Thank you
@@jackdickhausen7426 No one ever answers this question.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences getting into scouting. Do you know if there is a good place to find sample reports on player ID or opposition analysis?
No problem! They will be decent ones online that you can tweak as you go the more you learn what your team looks for and how they operate. It doesn’t need to be anything too complex so just get an understanding as to what is out there
is PFSA good courses and well recognised by clubs? will it give me a push forward to be accepted by clubs?
Which courses did you take to start? And from which course providers
Please come to Nigeria and scout us we are good players but no recognition
What are your opinions about PFSA scouting courses? I'm particularly interested in its Technical Scouting course with data science stuffs.
Hi Sy! I think the courses are informative and they do help you get a better understanding of different types of scouting. I don’t believe they would get you closer to securing a role though! Do have their positives but quite expensive. I hope this helps ⚽️
Great job the video will definitely go a long way... But how can someone who is not in Britain excel in this field because the level of football in my country (Nigeria) is not yet at her peak.
Thank you Ajibaye!! You can use the same sort of methods in Nigeria too. Reach out locally to clubs and go from there. You will be surprised what bigger clubs from like Europe are watching African teams for talent. All the best in your journey ⚽️
Hi bro!!You can reccomend Nigerian players to clubs all around Europe, writing the reports and sending them to clubs or agents
I want to ask question. There different btn scout and football agent?????
Very informative video!
Just have a question, when you start voluntarily scouting, are there specific tools you need? Apart from a notepad and pen, does one need a video camera? Thanks
Hi Damian! Starting out that’s just it really. You might want to record set pieces if you are doing opposition scouting but really that’s about it. Just go out and get watching ⚽️⚽️
Hi mate can you do this part time for local semi pro teams?
Hi, yes definitely! It just needs to be a conversation you have you the relevant people in the semi-pro clubs. High chance it will be voluntary so you would need to bear that in mind. Hope this helps and happy scouting
I'm a scout in Ghana , how can we get in touch...I have videos of them
Today I got the mission to build a scouting network for a tier 3 side in Sweden. I have done video scouting in the top league before but I have absolutely no idea in how to build a scouting network. I don’t know if you have any experience of this but do you have any tips for me?:)
How did u end up with that team?
i could do all those three easily
How get intouch with u on social media
Hi Josh, is there any way to connect with you on mail or zoom. Thanks
Hi I’m looking to get into football scouting and have found a course to get me into it. Just wondering how hard was it to start getting work after qualified? Also what is the usual pay of a football scout?
Depends if you want to start at a high level. Theres hundreds of thousands of clubs across the world theres always opportunity. if you do start at (league 2 or lower for example) expect peanuts or free merch as a payoff.
If you want to make big bucks consider starting your own independent “network” (kind of like an agent) and sell that database to large clubs
