We asked our Mexican Moms if they can taste the difference between plant based fast food and real meat! The challenge may be a little harder than they thought! We featured foods like Burger King's Impossible Whopper, KFC's Beyond fried chicken, Little Caesars Planteroni Pizza, and Wienerschnitzel Veggie Hot Dog!

As a vegetarian though I havenât had meat in years the impossible burger freaked me out! I thought they gave me a meat patty. Itâs nice because itâs plant based but freaks me out because it tastes like meat! lol I enjoy veggie burgers that taste like veggies đ„

As a vegan, I can attest to plant based options being a LONG way from being realistic. But oh, how far weâve come in the last decade! On that note though, some who eat plant based donât necessarily like the taste of meat and canât tolerate realistic texture either. I personally like both impossible and beyond burgers for different reasons but Iâd rather have a carrot dog instead of a processed hot dog.
Agreed. Even in the past couple years they've gotten so much better! But I also agree with Lucy's point in that we should focus on the real plant foods and keep the plant-based meat as an occasional treat. Frijoles!

I was always trying to reject non meat options and as time goes by and I start to appreciate nature and animals and know how smart animals are how they have emotions and get happy sad angry lets me know they have feelings and for us to separate them from their families when we kill them makes me think how when a family member is killed or dies we also feel sad yet we can speak and animals can't. Even though I know it's not easy and human kind is use to the taste pallate of meat and flavors I hope one day we all including me can stop from killing another life and respect mother nature and the real life that was here first animals not humans
I'm not vegan or vegetarian or anything like that, but I really enjoy the Morningstar sausage links and sausage patties. Regular sausage isn't bad, but it's usually greasier - so the plant-based options are a lot more refreshing and easier on the stomach IMO , lol.
I'm pretty much the antithesis of vegetarian and I am a fan of their "Spicy Black Bean Burgers" Sure they are absolutely nothing like meat, but it's like eating a weird chili burger and the taste is pretty good.
You can always taste the difference because science hasn't made a way to replicate the flavor of animal fat yet. But as far as animal protein goes, these meatless options are mimicking the **texture** really well, and the flavor is fine too. Not like the flavor of animal fat, but a very delicious meatless protein choice.
I love bolognaise, I tried vegan "mince" and whilst it was tolerable for a once a fortnight or such meal for absorbing taste in a dish like bolognaise it was just awful. I went through a phase about 4 or 5 years ago when vegan and vegetarian products were in a small part at back of a store and similar prices to meat products, sometimes cheaper sometimes more expensive and bulk bought a lot of things and kept it frozen, the same things now are 3-4 times the price they once were!
It wouldnât never be the same. Funny that youâll miss meat so much that you need mimicking it. Natural & organic always will be better. Animal proteins are different & itâs better for building muscles, good for the hair & nails.

If you don't like meat, why try to find "alternatives" for it? It's just strange to me. Like, for example, I do not like vegetables. I don't seek out alternative meat-based lettuce. I don't like it, and I want no part of it. I can understand for those who are moralistic vegans, because their avoidance of meat has more to do with animal slaughter than actual taste, but for those who do it because they "don't like meat", I just can't understand it. Can someone please explain this to me?

Vegetarians at least have eggs, dairy, honey, etc. I saw Vegan making Fake eggs, fake milk, fake meat,etc. It only mades me think that they miss an omnivore diet. Thatâs it. Humans have a high developed sense of taste, an average person have around 10,000 buds that are replaceable every 2 weeks or so. A dog have around 1700.
They miss the taste i guess. I know i couldnât lived without eggs or milk.

We have a vegan burger chain in Austria called "Swing Kitchen". Everything there, burgers, wraps, nuggets, desserts, it's all vegan with plant based meats and it tastes amazing. I'm a big meat lover but even I can only tell the difference between chicken and plant based by the texture.

Nah fam. Everyone Iâve ever given the impossible burger to has been shocked that itâs not meat. Kudos to them for being able to taste a difference, but it is definitely ridiculously similar to meat. I have multiple vegan friends who refuse to eat the impossible whopper because it tastes too similar to real meat and they hate the taste of meat.
for me i can tell, idk if it was just the local burger king but the plant patty was super burned. so it was easy to tell the difference.
@@josephmessina4832 Thatâs true, sometimes they cook the impossible burger way too much. I think itâs because they make the patties so thin now, so itâs way easier to burn.
It is probably easier to tell side by side than if you just give them the impossible burger alone.
@@meredithwhite5790 toppings help, my friend and i got impossible burgers at red robin(also, obviously red robin is a higher quality place than bk, so likely better quality patties), but got them with full toppings, and we took one for his wife(i thought he asked her) so she ate one, asked us about ours, and then said she would like to try one next time. if its just patty/bun/ketchup, its obvious, but a full on burger, its a lot harder. especially if you aren't going vegan, so you can still do cheese and mayo.
Some people are better at tasting things and others can more easily distinguish textures (I am pretty picky with textures) I can easily tell the difference, they're not even close. That said, they're still pretty good.

Canât go wrong with hummus, guacamole, and expertly cooked kale or collard greens! I also love beans and lentils! My favorite vegan processed food is veganaise. Far better than mayo! I also love violife vegan cheese

I really like Impossible Pattyâs. The company makes some of the best plant based meat Iâve had - that has a very similar taste and texture to ground beef. Most of my family prefers eating those pattyâs over regular ground beef pattyâs đ€·đœââïž

My favorite ever is Casiqueâs soy chorizo itâs really so underrated. I made tacos de soy chorizo con papas and my dad didnât even realize it was the real deal until later when he said it didnât make him feel like garbage.Sooooo good đ€€
Personally I am vegetarian and I agree with what Lucy said at the end. Better to eat real plants then imitate meat. For me I always thought meat is unappetizing. For those that like the taste of meat I can see how they would want these options. Also good to have out on a date or when your with friends so you can go to the same restaurant (:
for me its because of having more options (i love beans but i cant be eating them every day) and they can make meals more balanced with the protein they have. Also I find imitation beef products to be more appetizing than the real thing. I dont think iâd stomach beef anymore.
Im a meat eater and my favourite dish is salad (which is even funnier since I am obese) I couldn't be vegan as I love milk, egg, cheese etc too much. I didn't eat meat much when younger mostly due to income as until I was mid 20's I was very poor and even worse when I first left home and I was literally living off basics like pasta, cereal, porridge, eggs, rice cakes etc. A lot of it tasted bland and it kinda put me off eating basics like that, and I saw meat as a luxury, then in mid 20's I moved and had a cheap place to get meat from so ate it also because I was trying to fix my diet from junk food to proper meals. Its why I could never go to a vegan diet. But I also can enjoy meat free products.

with the kfc, it seems to vary by who cooks it. the first time i had the impossible chicken, it was too hard, but the last 2 times, they got consistency better, so you kind of need to mark the employees who know how to prepare them.

As a vegan, I admit the vegan options aren't realistic (yet). But for now, I'm just happy there are vegan options at all. It wasn't that long ago when my only option at most fast food places was fries. It still isn't uncommon for me to go to a restaurant where there are no vegan entrees, although that is changing.
I promise you soyrizo is so good that you will not miss the chorizo. The best part is it Cooks so fast there's no grease and then I add my pico de gallo in my corn tortillas and you cannot tell the difference you don't miss nothing except the fat is gone

I have tried an Impossible burger before. It was good. I mean, it was noticeably not exactly the same as a regular patty, but fast food patties are usually either under or over seasoned, gray (in both color and flavor), have no crust, and are just there to make it a more substantial sandwich, so a lot of the time, I will eat a fast food burger and think that it doesn't taste like a real burger patty, either. So really, the plant based burgers (which keep getting better, it should be noted) are quite tasty and have a place in the universe of burgers, anyway.
If you ask me, the big chains should only work with the Impossible patties and leave the real meat to restaurants that will turn it into something more worthwhile. I know that if I were going to be eaten, I would want to be cooked properly, and the golden rule says we should do unto others, yeah? (There's a morbid but interesting question: If you were going to be eaten, what dish would you prefer to be made into? I would like at least part of me to be made into George rillettes. XD)

It's usually the smell that gets me with plant based alternatives. I'm happy to eat them but sometimes I don't like the smell compared to meat.

OP is trying to speak for all vegans and is wrong. A LOT of people become vegan due to dietary reasons and wanting to eat healthier. The minority do it for "animal cruelty" because they know veganism, unless you're eating food from your own garden, has a lot of harmful effects on the environment as well.
That said, most of the people that want a burger that is like meat are people that may have a forced diet that aligns with veganism but still enjoy meat. I don't think I've ever seen an actual loud vegan that eats these burgers because they bleed and taste like meat, they're often too busy lording over other people's life choices and trying to shame them into thinking like they do.
I actually really like the one from Burger King. Was hungry after my night at work so popped in and it was all they had, so I gave it a go. It was delicious and if they had said it was meat I'd have never questioned them.

They should react to harvest snaps and my favorite plant based meat substitute is Beyond Burgers. If you add some garlic salt to it along with some worcestershier sauce it tastes like a pork burger.
