  • This is my 2nd video featuring my 2024 Honda Gold Wing-DCT Tour named “Snowee”. I address the concept of mounting the Gold Wing from the pegs. I was told this is called "Cowboy Mounting" a motorcycle. Never heard that term in my life, but went with it anyway.

    I too am a big lad, but I can still swing my leg over the pillion seat and top box armrests when standing on the left Goldstrike floorboard. I liked the look of the cowboy method, so I went out to the garage with bike on center stand, stepped on the left floor board, but no way was I able to lift my leg over the seat. Just goes to show how our bodies work differently. Thanks for sharing the video. I ride a 2023 DCT Tour (Red).

      Thanks. It's worth a try. My knees just don't bend very well.

    Good video Mac! Remember to periodically check your footpeg “pad”. From the twisting of your left foot when mounting, over time, it will cause that pad to twist on the foot peg proper. I mount my Kawasaki Versys this way and when I brought Eloise home I used this method. That is how I noticed the twisting tendency. I now use a karate style front kick to get my leg over the seat. I can do this since my knees are OEM and my daily leg stretches post back surgery have limbered me up…somewhat 😂 Ride on my white 2024 Gold Wing Tour brother!

    You hit it outta the park Mac! Excellent technique. Bike looks fantastic. Nice job.

    You need to center your weight over the centerline of the bike when using this method. If no parking brake, use the front brake lever. So, lean a little over the seat, then lift yourself with your left leg. Centering your weight is particularly important if the kickstand is on a sketchy surface. You don't want to stand on the side and lift from there. Get your weight over the seat. Also, it produces less stain on the kickstand. If you use this method frequently, it's important you don't get sloppy with positioning your weight, or you'll end up on the ground. Just FYI.

    that intro is PRO ! I'm going to start practicing that mount... although my seat is already toast.

      Thanks, Robert. I would practice with your current seat and get a new seat after you master the mounting. I like it, I just have to get into a habit.

      I ride a K1600 GT, and only 5'7", and that is exactly how I get on my bike. If you are able to bend forward enough I would recommend grabbing a handful of the front brake.. if you don't have a DCT model

    Thanks for sharing this great technique GR1. While I do not need to use the technique on my '24 Gold Wing Tour, I most definitely use it on one of my "Adventure Style" bikes with a tall seat height (34" +). The only thing I can add for the benefit of all would be to make sure that if you do cowboy mount using the kickstand method, make sure your kickstand design can handle the extra weight/stress. I think the Gold Wing design is OK for that. Other motorcycles may not be. The center stand method is probably better from that standpoint. At any rate, nicely done!

    As I child my favorite tv show was “CHiPs”. That’s what started my interest in motorcycles. I don’t remember if it was Max of Traxxion Dynamics or Cruiseman but one of them spoke about mounting from the opposite side of the kickstand (not stepping on the peg mind you) as the PROPER way to mount. Anyway, I still watch old episodes of CHiPs and sure enough that’s how THEY mounted the bikes 90% of the time. Now **I** don’t get on my bikes that way but I just found it interesting. Ride safe.

      Thanks for watching and responding. I have not seen CHIPs in forever. I may need to watch a few episodes.

      @@GoldRyderOne I understand the reasoning of you using the peg(s) to mount. It’s due to your knee(s) replacement. I forgot to mention that I’ve been riding for 39 years and I’ve never heard the term “cowboy mount” either so you aren’t alone.

    Nice video Mac! You are a real cowboy now! Sometimes when I do this I will mount from the right side footpeg. It is even higher and you can grab the handbrake easier. Ride safely!

    i'm 5' 6".... if the 'cowboy mounting" procedure did NOT exist... my 2022 Tour DCT would STILL BE AT THE DEALERSHIP from the day i bought it... thanks for a great video. surely the way i've always had to get on mine.
    the very best to you, always

      @GoldRyderOne  Před 12 dny +1

      Lol. Well, I'm glad it works for you as well. Gold Wing serves no purpose sitting at the dealership. I wish my first dealership would have shared that mounting process. I would not have purchased the bagger before the tour.

      @@GoldRyderOne 5 feet 6 and having a 27.5" inseam. I learned that lesson pretty quickly owning 2 BMW GS and 2 GS Adventure bikes... No one believed I could ride either because of my height but I did course that was the only way to get on those bikes for anyone. Ride safe and enjoy every mile and thanks for sharing that with us here. That means a lot to all of us. The very best to you and your family

    If you really want to have your mind blown, there is a lady gsa rider who has training videos for mounting and dismounting for shorter riders. She does it with the bike rolling. Also motor cops do that from the right side but for different reason.

    • @GoldRyderOne
      @GoldRyderOne  Před 12 dny

      Good information. I must have been lost for so long. Never thought about shorter people having the same issue. Makes sense. Thanks

    With my GSA, cowboy mounting is my only option, being older and not very flexible I use both left and right hand side mounting.

    Has anyone ever read an owner's manual that did not say to never use the sidestand to support your weight?
    It must have come from legal. Who doesn't do it?
    Yes, even my dainty little Italians can support my 300 lbs.
