I used to study and work in fine arts (painting, drawing etc) and knowing when to end a piece was almost always an issue. Even when a piece of work was completed and loved by others I could still see small areas that could be changed. Conversely, there were areas created somewhat by accident and yet had a brilliance to them. I find there are some strong links to mixing and creating fine art. Knowing when to finish is an issue. Only very occasionally being 100% happy with it another. I once said to a friend with a lot of studio experience when do you end a mix on a tune. He said "oh, don't worry about that." I think he was being a bit flippant, but on the other hand there is a truth to it. I think this is what Enrique is saying, when u are close to finishing a mix and think it's good enough - it may well be. Then get someone else to listen. So mixing is an art not a straight formula. I enjoyed this series and look forward to more.
I learned alot watching this, and im really thankful! However, i would have loved seeing the actual part 5, when the real spices gets into the cake. Compressor/limiter/reverb/delay/stereo separation and so on. The real challenge with mixing a track. Please consider doing a one year anniversary part 6 of 5 like the gentleman over me suggested!
Enrique awesome lesson. I love watching you try to explain "groove" No matter what style you record there is always a groove and it is the foundation of the tune
I made 3 years of Music Production and this series made me understand a diffrent prospective of Mixing. Amazing!! Is basically what we supposed to do every time, following artist intention and combining it with your prospective of art.
By far the best mixing tutorial I've seen. Details, people, details! That is a great workflow for any mixing engineer. Thanks, guys. And yes, mac 'n cheese is about as good as it gets.
This series has helped me tremendously in obtaining a "workflow" for keeping on task, keeping organized and getting the best sounds of of my mixes. I recently became the owner of a recording studio and will be using these tips for years to come. Thank you Jonathan Wyner and Enrique Gonzalez Müller. I feel like I attended Berkley for a few hours. Cheers!!
I waded through all five parts, and waited for the "Embellishments" in Part 5, that never happened, so I agree with Noys' comment, as NO Compressor, etc info was covered at all, and only a very small portion of EQ. I work in two main genre's, blurred country (country, country/pop, country rock) and also blurred worship (Gaither gospel type, CCM, etc) and so there is very little need for a TON of Drums, which it just seems that SO many---too many of them in fact-----of YT Vids are obsessed with drums. I use a ONE track Toon Track Drum track which functions as its own Drum Buss, because the TT recordings are so well done, I dont need to break them out. I do some work in the drum buss, and then also in my mastering process using Ozone 9 Advanced and its Tonal Balance Control and Re-Balance function. Overall it was a very good series with some good points made. I am also weaning myself away from Waves into Izotope stuff, with Neutron, Nectar, RX9 Standard, etc.
Awesome. Thank you! I was yelling at the screen once when Neutron came on the screen, "Use the masking function!!" This is maybe the most balanced technical/conceptual video on mixing I've seen.
Enreq's energetic vibes are sure infectious. The ying and yang personalities, one a limited soft spoken zen master and enriq the live wire fast paced dangerous accident prone characteristics of real scene of the mix & master. Try the zen master's mastering series. 💪
Viva Venezuela! 🇻🇪 I wish I could study at Berklee to met Enrique and have a lot of talks about Los Amigos Invisibles, Desorden Público and Caramelos de Cianuro
Man this was an awesome series of videos. I felt like i just audited Enriques class haha. Great job fellas. Looking forward to mixing with these tips using neutron!
Great tips and advice on mixing guys. Thank you! One question on the mix you started with. Since you didn’t discuss any panning (imaging) it seems like this was already done. Is that typically how you get the project? I’d love to hear thoughts on placement, side to side and front to back. Keep up the great tutorials!
Thank you so much for this series, it has helped me so much to tie together the full mixing process. Here's the song completed czcams.com/video/ONMwphQJkjQ/video.html There's a few more details added.
This hairy guy isn't doing much to create a great-sounding balanced mix. He is spending way too much time on posing and chatting. This is very little useful info in there
I want part 6 of 5..

The fatigue part and getting another person in the room to have a listen are gold. Most common pitfall in my case.
By far the best mixing tutorial I've seen. Details, people, details! That is a great workflow for any mixing engineer. Thanks, guys. And yes, mac 'n cheese is about as good as it gets.
Thank you Enrique, Jonathan, and iZotope for the great perspectives and enjoyable series.
Definitely impacted my own personal workflow and owning the "whys" of my mixing decisions. We'll done gentlemen.

Funny thing is that their voices were never leveled xD

Your wrong. You're not listening. You are too full of yourself and because of that, you're missing the lesson.
Great series, thank you so much!
