- Anti-war song written by an anonymous soldier in 1870.
I am a soldier, though I don't want to be one,
when i became one, I was not asked.
I was torn away, into the barracks,
I was captured, like a hunted game.
Yes, from the home, from the hearts of my love ones
I had to leave, and leave the circle of my friends;
When I think about it, I feel the pain of melancholy,
Feel the embers of nostalgia, so hot in the chest of anger, like fire.
I am a soldier, but only with reluctance,
I do not love the soldiers blue royal cloak.
I do not love a life of bloody gunfire.
To defend myself, a stick would be enough.
O tell me, why do you need soldiers?
Every people only loves peace and quiet;
Solely out of lust for power and to the detriment of the people
They tread over, ah, the golden fields!
I am a soldier, must march day and night
Instead of at work, I have to stand guard.
Instead of being free, I have to salute
And must see the arrogance of young boys.
And when I go into the field, then I have to murder brothers,
None of whom did anything of detriment to me;
There for, as a cripple I wear a ribbon and a medal,
And starving, I then shout " I was a soldier!"
All you brothers, whether german, whether French,
whether hungarian, danish or from the netherlands,
whether green, or red, or blue, or white the uniform,
instead of greeting each with lead, we greet with our brotherly hands!
Come one, lets march back to our home,
Liberate our people from tyrants;
For only tyrants must wage wars,
we are soldiers of freedom! - Hudba
german : "Ich bin soldat"
english translation : "Ah the golden fields"
That’s not what it means
Ich translates to I
Bin is am
Soldat is soldier
Y'know "Ah, the golden fields" sounds really good for a song
Good song
