    For all the guys on here who say this is a poor technique I say to you that there are many philosophies in LBer play.. This video comes from the University Of Miami and this LB coach knows what he is doing. This is a gap control defense and the counters and cutback plays are the responsibility of the BCR players (BS OS LBer, etc.). Plus the fact the PS LBer is playing the QB and the BS LB has the pitch back and does a great job of preventing the back from cutting up as well as being in a great pursuit angle to the sideline. Plus you also have to recognize that the other defensive players also have run responsibilities such as the force player, the alley player and the cutback player. Johnny and Martinez, where do you coach?

    We have our play side backer play off the edge inside out, with an outside playing outside in, and have the backside pursue through the a-gap making there be no cut back lane. This is a weird technique to me, not saying it wouldn't work, but it's weird.

      With all the zone running offenses. It really helps that backside lb from getting wall off and taking the under angle to thr ball. I have done this for years.

    I like for my.play side backer to fill and take on lead and backside to take backside shoulder on back or one gap behind eliminating cut back lane when you include dend my phliosophy works perfect for me last 5 games only one touch down scored on us vs us putting up about 25

    So the playside backer is spilling the ball to the backside backer.
    Kinda strange to me.
    PSB could just fit with his inside shoulder pad and force the ball back to his buddy.
    Do the play inside zone the same?

  • @Nonpeon
    @Nonpeon Před 2 lety +7

    Why doesn't the flowside backer keep his outside arm free in order to force the ball carrier back to the middle?

  • @Nonpeon
    @Nonpeon Před 8 lety +5

    Wait. The backer away from ball flow should look to, if he's quick, juking the center and taking an inside path around center's butt (away from flow), usually causing center to fall down and pursuit should turn the play back to him, effectively being unblocked. Otherwise, a good back will cut back and the backside backer will already be way out of the play, chasing the carrier to flow side. It's as clear as day. I played backer and was much quicker than the fat blousers called offensive lineman and did this all the time. I had a lot of tackles for a loss.

      @karamal-hassanieh5477 Před 6 lety +4

      You key the RB through the guards. I like to key the whole offence instead of focusing on one player. Its a bit blurrier but I know the front motion is the truth (99% of the time) and the backfield image tells me who has the ball. Ex: The whole line base run blocks which tells me inside run, then I would see if full back receives the ball then stuff the gap.
      Or Ex 2: the backfield motion is indicating run right, but a pulling guard tells me a left, my read step would be to the right but I'm hauling ass to get to the left to stop whatever counter or trap they run.

    I dont like this to much the de-end in the Linebacker are playing inside 59 should be forcing the play back in inside.

    • @Cspall135
      @Cspall135 Před 10 lety +8

      No, because the d end should be maintain outside leverage and not letting the tackle hook him so if the linebacker works inside out it forces the running back to bounce out into an area with the d end and hopefully a pursuing outside backer

    • @adub103
      @adub103 Před 3 lety

      @@Cspall135 no. Whether the end has contain depends on the scheme and the stunt. No matter what the end should have his shoulders square to line of scrimmage but he may have inside responsibility if they are running a stunt. If the playside end is in a 5, the playside LB should attack the TE with square shoulders but outside leverage(Its not his play to make). The outside LB has qb to rb, the SS has pitch. Backside lb plays fast away, shuffle to stack and eliminate cutbacks. Overall 8 out of 10

  • @mblake50mb
    @mblake50mb Před 10 lety

    The live play was.bad oline blocking and good pursuit by whole team im not hating but that scheme can easily be beat with counters and backs pressing the line only works ok on teams who aren't running north

    • @faveology
      @faveology Před 10 lety

      Probably due to the fact he could get shoved out, then they could easily bait the secondary linebacker coming in. I'm pretty sure the play shown was a triple option, so the play side LB is forced to stay inside to force an outside play. The scheme of defense is to allow as few of yards as possible. What you're suggesting is good, but it would allow the offense to gain a few yards every time they ran the play.

    • @faveology
      @faveology Před 10 lety

      Nevermind. It was a speed option, so I'm not really sure why they do that. In a speed option, you would generally rely on your defensive linemen to hold the cutback lanes, while your linebackers flow towards the ball, attempting to force the play inside(to your big guys and the corner back away from the play)

  • @KnuckleHeadVideos
    @KnuckleHeadVideos Před 10 lety

    That's a horrible job of blocking by Kansas State. Receivers give zero effort on run block, tight end lets end swallow him up instead of shooting up to the linebacker.
    HORRIBLE!
    If the Tight End gets up to 2nd level he could have sealed off 59 AND cut off the lane for 31 pursuing.
    Inside out is a dangerous pursuit technique. Better outside in with inside guys on the cut back but yeah "different strokes for different folks." ;)

    This technique is terrible and that's why these coaches aren't at Miami anymore. As a Miami fan, I've seen this technique hurt them many times. That backside LB often struggles to catch the RB going around the edge. Makes zero sense to me when you could just simply have the play-side LB set the edge. This is just one of the reason why this coaching staff fielded the worst defense in UM history.
