    Excellent video. I had to change mine last night.
    I have two suggestions which may be of help to others. One would be to simply mention the specific tools you are using. ie 15mm ratcheting wrench.
    Also, due to space limitation, I found that I had to insert the lower of the three alternator bolts through the housing before putting the alternator into position. I could not get that lower bolt past the refrigerant line with the alternator already secured by the upper bolts.

      Great tips thank you! You can also carefully bend that ac line out of the way enough to get the bolt past.

      ​@@MorFabIndustriesmine wouldnt bend enough. I also had to trim a bit off the fan shroud to get enough room to remove alternator. I just used time snips. Took M off about 1 inch.

    ...just an observation from an old guy... it looks like it would be easier to remove the battery so us T-Rex arm wrenchers might have a bit more room to work... and charge said battery on the bench whilst one cusses and swears...

      Busted Flush lol, I did this change with my father 2 weekends ago. We couldn’t wiggle the alternator out at all, and we did not want to brake the plastic around. Tried to take of the battery plate....and man that holder has about 8 screws if I recall and 2 are deep down there. We said forget it and used a little man force to pry out the alternator haha.

    Thanks bro . last summer handed down my 06 trailblazer 4x4 to my teenager well tonight kid calls me saying the trucks running but all the lights are dimming and all dash lights going along with headlights then it died . somehow after sitting it seemed to gain a little power back and would turn over for maybe a min than die (guessing no fuel from pump) a buddy of mine repos was able to tow it back to my condo lot for a 12 pack of modelo lol . I'll be swapping out the s.o.b tomorrow . thanks for the video bro saving a full time single dad some $$ ✌

    Great vid Brother . I'm a framer by trade and a dipshit when it comes to fixing anything vehicle wise but I changed out my upper control arms .. I was like Holy sheep shit . I did it . Sooooooo I got this . oh and right on about the battery being charged up . my dumb ass would've fryed the alternator

    That alternator is easy to get out comparative Ford Escape they put those suckers down by the floorboard of the passenger side that sucks trying to replace one of those

    If you're going to do this i recommend changing the thermostat behind the alternator. I had to remove the new alternator a week after putting it in because the thermostat went bad.

    Bottom bolt is easy, get a 15mm stubby wrench. Id say no longer than about 5 inches, takes a minute because the bolts are long as hell, but still pretty easy.

    I broke off the wires to the clip before I saw which color went to which side of the clip. The replacement clip has 2 white wires, do you know which wire goes where on my new replacement clip, thanks. My existing wires are yellow and black, thanks.

    It's been a week and I can't figure this out. I can't just push the radiator hose out of the way like you can because for some reason mine is stuck, it's hard as concrete. Will Not Move. What can I do to get this last bolt at the bottom without removing my hose?

    Is the bottom alternator bolt also the top bolt for the idler pulley bracket? Also, how did you get the pesky bolt out of the backside of the bracket on top of the alternator?

    Just did mine and the thermostat today. What. A. Pain... jeez all mighty that bottom bolt and the bottom bolt of the thermostat... could GM have possibly made it anymore difficult? I mean really. Who designed this vehicle this way and they needed fired for it... lol

    Would like to see you install a rebuild kit in that same alternator. The kit is only about 1/3 the cost of a rebuilt alternator.

      RJ 1999 how? I do it every day. Literally used a quarter inch air ratchet in a tight space while doing a power steering pump on an impala today. If i used a ratchet it would have taken 10 times as long.

      @@starlord9956 That hidden bracket blot is a PITA ta get out and get back in. Got it to fall to the ground the first time. 2nd time it is somewhere down on the bottom and will fall out somewhere - bracket is secure without it . . .

      Theres a pulley called a belt tensioner. You get the socket and a long ratchet or a normal ratchet and pipe to put on the the ratchet for leverage and push down it will loosen the tension on the belt so you can remove it and same process to put it back on

    Goddamn, I spent 30 minutes on that stupid bolt and ended up using an adjustable wrench on it. That lower A/C line is pretty rigid, do you just bend it down? I tried every ratchet I have and couldn't get on it!

    Just out of curiosity my friend has a a 2006 trail blazer with a 4.2 a alternator out of a 2004 envoy 4.2 should still work right jjst askingto make sure

      Only difference would. Possibly be pulley size. The envoy may use a smaller pulley because its higher amperage based on the envoys options. If the pulleys are the same size then you are all set! If the pulleys on the new one is smaller, all you have to do is get the smaller belt from the envoy.

    Hi I'm going over this video to change my alternator and I'm having trouble fitting my wrench to the bottom screw underneath. What size do you suggest? The hose does not bend at all either ( as you said in your vid.) So I need something skinny that's going to fit it. I have no room .

      With the help of this video I swapped an OEM AC Delco from partsgeek not the reman junk from autozone and it cured all my issues. It’s never run better 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

      Absolutely. My Trailblazer's been sitting dead for months because of a bad alternator and I haven't gotten around to replace it yet. Fortunately, I'm 16 and I haven't gotten my license yet but it will absolutely keep a car from starting.

    I would never say anything is easy. The bottom bolt will make you bitch about it. Those stupid hoses are most of the problem. In mine 2005 not socket will fit. You have to use a small wrench. If like a rachett choose one small head.
