- Quick job today on this 02 Envoy. This proceedure is pretty much the same for all the 4.2l straight six powered gm trucks. Thanks for Watching! Please like, comment, and subscribe! I appreciate you all!!!
Thanks for the video. Changed my first alternator with my 12 yr old daughter! You rock
I took my alternator out yesterday and putting my used one in tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it and this video has helped. Thank you.
1:40 "...a little trick that I use is I throw my phone down there, flashlight facing up. Works everytime."
I was looking for that lower hidden bolt but thanks bro
You guided me thru my alternator change this past Friday night. Went great. Thank you for the help! Gotta love CZcams.
Thank you so much for this wonderful video. Please continue to help us novices. lol 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Awesome video like always! It's good to know to make sure a battery is charged before you start with a new alternator. I always love learning new things from your videos, keep up the great work! 👍
Excellent video. I had to change mine last night.
I have two suggestions which may be of help to others. One would be to simply mention the specific tools you are using. ie 15mm ratcheting wrench.
Also, due to space limitation, I found that I had to insert the lower of the three alternator bolts through the housing before putting the alternator into position. I could not get that lower bolt past the refrigerant line with the alternator already secured by the upper bolts.
Great tips thank you! You can also carefully bend that ac line out of the way enough to get the bolt past.
@@MorFabIndustriesmine wouldnt bend enough. I also had to trim a bit off the fan shroud to get enough room to remove alternator. I just used time snips. Took M off about 1 inch.
...just an observation from an old guy... it looks like it would be easier to remove the battery so us T-Rex arm wrenchers might have a bit more room to work... and charge said battery on the bench whilst one cusses and swears...
Hahah yeah it gives you a tad more elbow room but the cursing remains the same.
Busted Flush lol, I did this change with my father 2 weekends ago. We couldn’t wiggle the alternator out at all, and we did not want to brake the plastic around. Tried to take of the battery plate....and man that holder has about 8 screws if I recall and 2 are deep down there. We said forget it and used a little man force to pry out the alternator haha.
Thanks bro . last summer handed down my 06 trailblazer 4x4 to my teenager well tonight kid calls me saying the trucks running but all the lights are dimming and all dash lights going along with headlights then it died . somehow after sitting it seemed to gain a little power back and would turn over for maybe a min than die (guessing no fuel from pump) a buddy of mine repos was able to tow it back to my condo lot for a 12 pack of modelo lol . I'll be swapping out the s.o.b tomorrow . thanks for the video bro saving a full time single dad some $$ ✌
This guy is good, very informative and it sure helped alot. Thank you.
You should have put the part of mounting the belt
Great advice about not charging it on the alternator when it’s dead.
Great video, helped me get it done in a couple hours.
No I digging deeper but thanks for the bidden alternative bolt
Thank you for the video, you helped me and my dad.
Fantastic video! I like the way you explain what you are doing before you do it and during the procedure. Since this is the first time replacing the alternator, this video is going to save me a lot of time and headaches. I have liked this video and subscribed to MorFab Ind. Look forward in seeing more of your videos. You Rock!
Thank you!! Im Glad it helped!
I’m ready to try any must have tools and if I’m not the most mechanical how long should this take thank you
Haha may've oversold the "easy as pie" bit.. nice video, cheers!
not to hate or anything but lots of people have trouble with the belt i think that wouldve been nice to watch you show us how to take that off
Great vid Brother . I'm a framer by trade and a dipshit when it comes to fixing anything vehicle wise but I changed out my upper control arms .. I was like Holy sheep shit . I did it . Sooooooo I got this . oh and right on about the battery being charged up . my dumb ass would've fryed the alternator
Thanks for this information. I need that speed for taking bolts out by the way.
Great video, straight to the point. This is so much help.
Easy as pie my ass that looks like at least and hour removing a lot of extra stuff
That alternator is easy to get out comparative Ford Escape they put those suckers down by the floorboard of the passenger side that sucks trying to replace one of those
If you're going to do this i recommend changing the thermostat behind the alternator. I had to remove the new alternator a week after putting it in because the thermostat went bad.
T-Stat was done last month ;)
And yes absolutely right! So much easier to get at with the alt out!
Yes, that genius design: let's make it so you have to remove the alternator to replace the thermostat. Thanks GM!
Hi my friend! yesterday I replace my alternator in my trailblazer 2006 and I make mistake I put in charge my batery with the new alternator.☹ do you think my alternator is broken. thank you for your great videos!
Bottom bolt is easy, get a 15mm stubby wrench. Id say no longer than about 5 inches, takes a minute because the bolts are long as hell, but still pretty easy.
Thank you for taking the time to comment and recommend this tool. Stopped and picked up a set of stubbies on the way to the parts store this morning. Made the job for me today so much easier.
@@LanceWhipple Np brother, glad to help!
I broke off the wires to the clip before I saw which color went to which side of the clip. The replacement clip has 2 white wires, do you know which wire goes where on my new replacement clip, thanks. My existing wires are yellow and black, thanks.
It's been a week and I can't figure this out. I can't just push the radiator hose out of the way like you can because for some reason mine is stuck, it's hard as concrete. Will Not Move. What can I do to get this last bolt at the bottom without removing my hose?
Is the bottom alternator bolt also the top bolt for the idler pulley bracket? Also, how did you get the pesky bolt out of the backside of the bracket on top of the alternator?
Good show sir
damn, mine just went last night on my '04 trailblazer. You're absolutely right, for some reason, all the bolts on this car are dumb long!
Can you help me figure out where the voltage regulator is located? The engine is the same as My 2992 Chevy trailblazer. Please and thank you.
Thank you like the video
Great vid !!! Now I just need to get my tools out........LOLOLOL
Just did mine and the thermostat today. What. A. Pain... jeez all mighty that bottom bolt and the bottom bolt of the thermostat... could GM have possibly made it anymore difficult? I mean really. Who designed this vehicle this way and they needed fired for it... lol
Your video was great tho, thanks!!
Engineering at its finest lol! Pray you dont need to do a timing chain.
MorFab Industries LOL I'll start putting that in my nightly prayers!!
My hands got the crap beat out of them from this job
@@MorFabIndustries ...My Trailblazer is 15 years old....if I need a timing chain...I'm just junking the car. (I make sure I keep good clean oil in the car to help with the timing chain)
I need to know what he is on to rachet that fast maybe that helps to! LoL I'm trying to get to the piece of junk under it the AC compressor damn
so i got an o4 trailblazer and the alternator jus died and she'll barely start, but im also unaducated as hell and ion know what alternator i need. could u help me out?
Would like to see you install a rebuild kit in that same alternator. The kit is only about 1/3 the cost of a rebuilt alternator.
Great videos, you need an air ratchet though my dude!
I have several! And cordless ones too. But in that space it’s way easier to use a wrench.
Morfius Performance I definitely have to disagree with that haha watching you take those out was painful! A small quarter inch air ratchet would fit in there nice after cracking it loose and boom shes out in 2 seconds! Keep up the good work man like I said love the videos.
Andrew McKerracher trust me it wont
RJ 1999 how? I do it every day. Literally used a quarter inch air ratchet in a tight space while doing a power steering pump on an impala today. If i used a ratchet it would have taken 10 times as long.
Andrew McKerracher I'm in the process of changing the alt as we speak, and your right if you bend the hose down underneath and back up you can get it in there to tighten it, but it's a challenge! Lol
My clip broke can u tell me where to 2 wires go to alternator. They are a red and white one
Would replacing the alternator in my ‘02 Trailblazer solve my flickering lights problem?
So I bought a gm Delco alternator, replaced it and now have a no crank/no start condition....is there some re-initialization that needs to be done with a scan tool to get my car to start again?
Can you jump start it with a car instead of charging it with a battery charger?
I didn't put the bracket back on. Been good so far. Idk how much I really need that
@@Rick-wx4md been a year. Still haven't needed it lol
@@starlord9956 That hidden bracket blot is a PITA ta get out and get back in. Got it to fall to the ground the first time. 2nd time it is somewhere down on the bottom and will fall out somewhere - bracket is secure without it . . .
Does an 02 Chevy trailblazer need a specific certain alternator?
Fuck so I did need to take my radiator out to get that out
Belt tensioner?
So no belt change?
How did you get the belt back on and off?
Theres a pulley called a belt tensioner. You get the socket and a long ratchet or a normal ratchet and pipe to put on the the ratchet for leverage and push down it will loosen the tension on the belt so you can remove it and same process to put it back on
Will the alternator charge with the new battery in your car already?
Goddamn, I spent 30 minutes on that stupid bolt and ended up using an adjustable wrench on it. That lower A/C line is pretty rigid, do you just bend it down? I tried every ratchet I have and couldn't get on it!
good job what brand wrenches are those
Just out of curiosity my friend has a a 2006 trail blazer with a 4.2 a alternator out of a 2004 envoy 4.2 should still work right jjst askingto make sure
Only difference would. Possibly be pulley size. The envoy may use a smaller pulley because its higher amperage based on the envoys options. If the pulleys are the same size then you are all set! If the pulleys on the new one is smaller, all you have to do is get the smaller belt from the envoy.
Just swap pulleys
What type of wrenches are those
What size wrenches??
15 socket or a wrench ratchet 8 for battery post an 10 for cable in back of alternator
Wonder if this alternator has rebuildable brushes.
It does but try to find the parts.
Hi I'm going over this video to change my alternator and I'm having trouble fitting my wrench to the bottom screw underneath. What size do you suggest? The hose does not bend at all either ( as you said in your vid.) So I need something skinny that's going to fit it. I have no room .
“Easy as pie” my ass. Must be 15 bolts holding that b***** in there. And in the first 15 seconds you tell us how big a pain half of them are.
I think mines on its way out....my lights pulse and my gauge fluctuates between 14 and 11.
Update****
With the help of this video I swapped an OEM AC Delco from partsgeek not the reman junk from autozone and it cured all my issues. It’s never run better 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I'm fairly mechanically inclined, but I'm not exactly an auto mechanic. Is this something I can do myself?
Absolutely! Just take your time and you shouldn't have an issue.
@@MorFabIndustries okay cool, thank you. I know the new alternator isn't really that expensive so if I can cut the labor cost too I'm down to do it myself
Would a bad alternator keep a car from starting
Absolutely. My Trailblazer's been sitting dead for months because of a bad alternator and I haven't gotten around to replace it yet. Fortunately, I'm 16 and I haven't gotten my license yet but it will absolutely keep a car from starting.
I would never say anything is easy. The bottom bolt will make you bitch about it. Those stupid hoses are most of the problem. In mine 2005 not socket will fit. You have to use a small wrench. If like a rachett choose one small head.
Just wondering why you did not replace the temp sensor and thermostat at the same time..?
I had already done a tstat and sensor a few months prior to the alternator replacement
Thanks.. I should have known better..@@MorFabIndustries
Saab 9-7x
what's the bolt sizes please?
Gabriel M 15mm on the alt
MorFab Industries flexible wrench a must for bottom bolt? and what if its lock tight, any chance of getting a pry pipe over wrench in there?
You honestly can’t get anything in there other than a short flex head wrench. You gotta put some muscle behind it for sure.
MorFab Industries ok thanks bro. ill try. been banging it with hammer lately to get me around. works but when i drive it cuts off.
Not easy as pie. Took 2 hours to get the bottom bolt loose 2 turns
Title says easy as pie and all I hear is pain in the ass. Hmmm
Some pies are a pain in the ass 😉
