Please more senior dogs. They need help getting adopted.
Barney is the cutest!
Yes, I was thinking the same thing.
I've had several senior dogs, and they are so sweet.
I'm so glad an adult dog was also featured this time. Puppies are adorable, and the opportunity for some silly humor is always a treat. But getting older dogs into loving homes is even better!
And it was such an adorable dog! I like the idea of adopting an older pet who really needs a home. We specifically looked for a cat who had been waiting a while and she fits right in… she’s timid and so are we, lol.
Very good point. 👉
I was a bit disappointed that the dogs were mostly puppies. I’d like to see dogs that are often harder to get adopted - older, senior, and/or with disabilities.
@@Belle0477 Very good point. 👉
Absolutely! My family just adopted a 12 year old Siamese cat from our local shelter! He’s the absolute best! I hope they continue to feature older dogs!
"Please help the older dogs as well" cannot be said often enough. They are the ones truly challenged in finding homes. 💔 💔 💔 💔 💔
I'm more of a cat person. At 67, I'm reluctant to make another commitment to a young cat that I maybe can't see through to the end. So next time I'm ready for a new cat(s), I'll adopt the oldest ones and become an Old Cats Home. 🙂🙂🙂
@@AmateurHistorian999That’s great. My step daughter works at a shelter and there’s nothing sadder than older animals who’ve lost their owners. I’m sure those lucky kitties will be happy to warm your lap while singing to you with their healing purrs. ❤
@@angiebear8727 TL;DR -- be warned!
I love the idea of being a cat hospice. Austin has, I swear, the best, most amazing no-kill animal shelter and clinic in the country, Austin Pets Alive. The director, a vet, pioneered a treatment protocol for parvovirus, a disease of puppies, that raised the survival rate from 10% to 86% and is now standard veterinary practice. The clinic is on its way to becoming the Johns Hopkins of veterinary medicine.
When APA takes in an animal, they commit to it for life and care for it until the end or until it's adopted. They actually own the animal and so can take it away from a bad home or "caregiver." Adopters can return the animal any time -- and only to APA; adopters sign a contract -- and they take it back, no questions asked. If the animal goes to a foster home, APA provides all its medical care at its own expense. And APA is the center of the huge animal rescue community here. Lucky lucky Austin, lucky animals, lucky me. I'm all kinds of proud. Can you tell?
I'm not the only one amazed by APA. They get so many visits from shelter staff coming to learn how it does its magic that they started a companion organization, American Pets Alive, that holds conferences where they teach the magic. People come from all over North America and beyond. Blows my mind.
Elderly animals take a lot of staff time and few people adopt them, so APA takes all the help it can get. I've had many many cats and seen most of them through to the end, so in effect I've been running a cat hospice for decades. Every animal deserves loving care until the end, and I can give it. And I'm a minister, so I care for their beautiful souls too, and this'll be a fresh spiritual commitment for me. There aren't many things I'd rather do.
I haven't talked to APA yet but I've volunteered with them for years, they know me, and they'll agree. As soon as my one cat passes on, I'll get going. (She won't tolerate another animal.) She's 15 years old and healthy, so who knows when. Meantime there's a shelter full of cats, dogs, chickens, goats, the occasional horse or llama, even once a giraffe. Now that would've been an helluva job. 😆😆😆
I'm also thinking about taking on FeLV (feline leukemia virus) positive cats. Despite its name, FeLV is the cat equivalent of HIV. There's a vaccine but it's only 70% effective and not widely used. FeLV is 100% fatal, fairly contagious (only to cats), and death comes within a year. APA has a FeLV+ hospice, but FeLV+ cats need even more and specialized care. They're of course unadoptable and fosters won't take them. I'd be the first, and like I said it would be a sacred commitment.
OK, if you made it this far, I apologize for chewing on your ear about Austin Pets Alive. It doesn't take much to get me going. It's great to connect with people who love animals and see their beautiful souls. Blessings, my sister in animal care!
More senior dogs, please
At least a couple per segment.
Maybe a segment just with older dogs?
Rescue old rescue? Rescue senior rescue?
Yes, please!
My 11 year old rescue beagle agrees with you
I just posted the same thing -- more segments with only senior dogs. 🐾🥺
Pre-loved dogs need a second chance. And all those who missed out on love altogether before!
I love this segment and love that this time they had a slightly older dog included-I think it’s so important we don’t forget about the older dogs (and cats, and other animals) waiting for their forever home!!!
Honestly, I was thinking they should do older dogs more often. Puppies are more likely to get adopted anyway; now that they know this segment is successful, they should use the Late Show spotlight for dogs that have less of a chance!
@@safaiaryu12 I completely agree!
And the older guy is the choice I'd make.
No.! I did not mean Stephen.!
Great point! Maybe a Senior Segment for old doggies. I like it! ❣️
@@swapshots4427IDK, I'd take the older one and I DO mean Stephen! But I'd want his lovely wife Evey too! Perhaps for a delightful double date night. I could bring my old one too! Wouldn't that be fun? 🤓
Imagine adopting a dog that' has not only been on TV but has been held by Daniel Ratcliffe.
Yeah, Harry Potter holding Harry Pupper!😂
D.R. is the sweetest guy!
Rather adopt Radcliffe as he won't poop in or dig up the yard, won't interrupt my sleep with incessant barking, won't eat the couch cushions, shoes, etc....
@@ThatOpalGuy You don't know that.
I'd forget all about it in 3 minutes, 'cuz a dog is a dog and the dog doesn't know it was famous for 3 minutes.
MR COLBERT, I CHALLENGE YOU TO DO A SEGMENT FOR SENIOR DOGS, SIR
Also... Awwwwwwwwwwww
I second this ❤
Oh, most definitely!!
YES!!! #SeniorDogsRock
Please feature more older dogs. They're beautiful souls who are often left behind in shelters. Thanks for all you do!
I wish they had several of these episodes where SENIOR dogs are up for adoption. 🥺🐾
Thank you for featuring an adult dog that is also all black! We used to foster and wound up adopting two all black pets because they are often overlooked in shelters.
They can be hard to photograph, but they are very easy to love!❤️
I believe you, but that's crazy! I grew up with a black lab and a black cat and both were SO sweet. I'd go to a black animal first at a shelter ❤
I have 2 black lab/pit mix, siblings I took together, they were older and bonded and no one wants that. I also have 2 black bobbed tail kittens that were found at 1 week old. All foster fails.
Black cat owner here. They are the best. Sometimes all you see is two glowing eyes when looking into a dark room lol.
I have a friend who volunteers at an animal shelter. He told me that black cats are difficult to find homes for. I asked if it was superstition and he said it was because they don't show up well on Instagram.
@@EdDueim I'm also an animal rescue volunteer. A tip I learned recently for photographing black dogs and cats is to set your phone camera to night mode. It's amazing the difference it makes!
I love that a older dog was included. Please do more rescue dog rescue segments.🐶
Can’t decide who is cuter…Daniel or the puppy.
I’ll take both.
Preach!
THANK YOU for including a senior puppy. When I made that suggestion as an audience member, I wasn't sure if I would see it happen!! I appreciate you!
I want Barney! That sweet look he got on his face when he heard Stephen say his name was 🥴💕
Shoutout to Barney and all older dogs everywhere!
yesss please feature more older dogs! it's hard for them to find homes
Please someone, give Barney a good home! And keep all senior dogs in mind when you choose a furbaby..
I checked and he has been adopted!
@@HBatch Awesome!!!
Barney was the cutest of the bunch.🖤
Thank you for including an older dog, please keep bringing them!
Daniel was legitimately excited to hold every one of those dogs, it was so cute.
Omfg barney! Someone love that sweet baby!
Thank you for including an older dog!! Would love to see more of them!! Good luck to Barney- may you find a loving Forever Home!!
I love the senior dogs! I've adopted one that 9 yrs old and another that was 12. The best dogs. Also, they often are given up after years of being in the same home because their owner has passed on or their family just decided they no longer want it. It's especially traumatic and they need that extra care and love because they're very confused about why they suddenly have no home.
That's heartbreaking. Shelter workers know that and work extra hard to rehome them. The director of the shelter where I volunteer keeps his office full of surrendered dogs, giving them as much attention as he can. It's the happiest room in the shelter, people constantly coming in for a play break, dogs tumbling over the humans and each other, spilling out of the office and people chasing them. I suspect the director does most of his work at home. 😄😄😄
I am so happy you featured an older dog! My family just adopted a 12 year old Siamese cat from our local shelter. He’s the sweetest cat and is so loving! I hope you continue to feature older dogs! ❤
More older and senior dogs, please! #SeniorDogsRock #AdoptDontShop 🙏❤️🐾
If I was in NYC I would take home Barney in a heartbeat!!!
Yes, I love it when they have this segment. Please consider adoption before you buy 🐾
Wish the segment would feature older & senior Dogs too
Daniel was always great with puppies
LOL Daniel:"Oh, sorry...he's a powerful WHIZZER"
Much as I love the various repeat special segments, on a few late night shows, this is the sweetest and most wholesome thing! You get a good bit of info about Stephen and the guests who help too. Dogs are good judges of character, they seemed very relaxed with both gents, and there wasn't as much as a yip or nip, despite the surroundings being undoubtedly scary!
I LOVE Daniel Radcliffe ❤❤❤. What a great guy.
We love daniel Radcliffe
Very much enjoyed Radcliffe entering like the wacky neighbour in a classic sitcom.
Please, PLEASE did this segment MORE OFTEN!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'll take them all, Radcliff and Colbert too~
Barney was SUCH A GOOD BOY.
The puppies a sweet and gorgeous, but PLEASE, more older dogs!!!!
Awesome that you are doing this Rescue Dog Rescue, Stephen.. Thanks so much to North Shore Animal League, Daniel Radcliffe and Simparica too. SO very important. And how great that you have a perfect record for adoptions!
Adding my support for having more older dogs! They need the help more and as cute as these puppies are to watch, that's why they don't really need the Colbert bump!
I know everybody remembers him as Harrry the Potter, but I always remember him as the guy who had a corpse for a friend in Swiss Army Nan, for some reason. Was just more memorable to me.
I very much enjoyed Swiss Army Man. Definitely think of more of his current work when I do think of him, but I have a kid and she's into the Harry Potter series rn.
@@kari_bear21Means she's a healthy youngster 😁👍🏻
Interesting. I remember the first time I saw him, I didn't know who he was: "David Copperfield". Now when I see him, I think of him in "The Woman in Black". (I've never been so creeped out since "The Shining". Thank you Daniel.😶🌫️)
I have two rescue dogs and they are the best! Adopt & don’t shop.
😎🫵🏼Yessir 2 rescue dogs here too, why just have one ?!?! They need a buddy and playmate!! 💘🐕ADOPT DON'T SHOP 🐕💘
Barney looks like the goodest boy!
Oh Danny,I love yooou!!🥺🐕🐶
Thanks for having an adult dog. Would love to see more adult and senior dogs on this wonderful segment!
Dan knows how to hold a puppy! Must be all that practicing he does holding his own kid!
I wasn't sure with the 1st one, but maybe he was just trying to get the right pup angle for the camera.
“HALLO STEPHEN!” he’s so enthusiastic about everything he dies, what a gem of a person (:
Barney eats everything he cooks, guaranteed.
harry pupper 😂😂😂
Puppies, Steven and Daniel! My happy place
Puppies are cute, but shelters have loads of adult and senior dogs that need a good home, who can be wonderful companions. Please feature older dogs, they need your help.
GOD bless Stephen Colbert☝
I will always be excited to see Daniel Radcliffe!!
.
really ?
.
I adopted 2 older dogs from a shelter
They are marvelous
Glad I did it
Barney is so cute!
aaand next: SIRIUS BLACK (Gary Oldman) with OLDER BLACK RESCUE DOGS!! 🖤🖤🖤😁
I’m so Happy & PROUD that you present this segment! And, I love that your adoption rate is 100%!
That’s a cute pupper and the dog he’s holding is cute too 😈
Daniel and puppies i'm happy❤
Were these descriptions especially clever (Harry Pupper) or was it just the enthusiastic delivery by Daniel & Stephen?
👍🏼 for doing a "RDR" for older dogs. (Maybe 2 and up?) Think how proud you'd make Benny that his papa did a mitzvah for a stranger.
How about a "Rescue Black Cat Rescue" on Halloween? For some crazy reason, it doesn't matter if they are kittens or older cats, these cuties are the hardest to adopt out.😿
@11cabadger Adopting out black cats around Halloween? Sounds like a very bad idea! Most shelters won't do it because the nut jobs like to sacrifice black cats that day....
I think Radcliffe can host a show. Get him to guest host at the daily show, Colbert!
Merrily we roll over 😂😂😂 that was brilliant
Denise is my favourite, & I LOVE Daniel Radcliffe SO much! 🐶💜🧡
Do one with all senior dogs! It's way harder to adopt them and you could do a lot of good
"..because, y'know, the crossbow." I'm gonna have to find an excuse to slip that into conversation from time to time!
Daniel Radcliffe has got to play the next "Wolverine"!
Thank you for featuring an older dog! We would love to see more of them on this segment!
Hagred: "You're a _dog_ rescuer, Harry."
Love the dog rescue and will forever insist PLEASE MORE ATTENTION TO SENIOR DOGS❤❤❤
All adorable!!
What an adorable group of puppies!!! So pretty and unique looking!!🥰🥰
only that one of the
puppies trashed the Lady
he owes everything . . . . .
🐶 🗑
Daniel grew up not only hot but a great actor
.
really ?
.
Always love this segment. Ya'll need to get "thedogist" photographer and have him take pics... ❤
We were there for this taping. Great show! Loved this segment so much. The puppies were absolutely adorable and it was so fun to see Daniel there.
David brings a smile to my face
The writing for this bit was so cute and funny.
Barney! 💜💜💜
Oh Barney is the sweetest! I love him right away 😍
Love that they included an adult dog this time! Of course it's harder to pick up a big dog for the joke... Maybe they could do a senior small dogs episode? ❤❤❤❤
Small dogs are nearly non-existent at shelters. Most old folks want smaller dogs, so they get adopted out quickly....
Love love love this segment!
Both of my dogs were rescues and they are both on Simparica Trio.
Harry pupper 😭😭😭
These are the BEST SEGMENTS EVER! 👏👏👏👏👏
LOVE that you included the adorable OLDER dog, as well as the adorable little guys 😊
My cousin Laurie watched this and immediately adopted Daniel Radcliffe.
Two of the men who got me through my teen years holding puppies? More of that, please
You guys I'm not joking. Daniel Radcliffe, Sandra Oh, and Reed Scott? is this MY episode? I love all these actors so much
Wait. I'm thinking of Reed Diamond. Oh well Reed Scott also ok.
Love DanRad
MORE DANIEL PLS
Anyone else also Love Radcliffe.
.
I like decent people
.
Madonna Ciccone is still at large. RIP Weird Al.
I was so worried that something happened to Weird Al!! … then I remembered 😅
Adopt, don’t shop.
Rescue saves lives.
❤🐾
Barney ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love that you are doing older dogs now too! Everyone wants a puppy, no one wants to adopt an older dog.
Did Harry Pupper study at “Dogwarts”?
I love everyone of those puppies. So adorable
Love this segment 😊
Hi Harry! 🧙♀️
Stephen, plz do a show for adopting out senior dogs. Too many people basically "throw away" an old dog, esp when they get a new puppy for their kids.
Yeah, more adult dogs with the puppies! Also love Daniel Radcliffe with doggies.
Since you know this segment is so successful, you should do it more often. Like monthly or even weekly. And feature some elderly dogs too.🐾💗
Was it denise or denis???? Lol i got confused when that little belly popped up and there was a lotta extra pieces ! 😂
There’s always a couple of those, I’m guessing the handler hands out the wrong puppy.
Thanks for doing that for them 👍
