- One of the most famous door chimes and announcement in the United States. This voice is used on only 4 railroads in the country: Metra, Virginia Railway Express, Star Train, and MBTA. But Metra is probably the most well-known for using it. Probably the rightful frontrunner. To me it sounds somewhat pleasant and the voice sounds fun yet serious enough to deliver the message compared to Star Train's female voice heard in the beginning or the simple ding-dong chime of South Shore Line heard at the end.
A few things to note about Metra and its various speakers, the only speakers that announce this message are the ones built into the box itself. You'll sometimes see a bigger speaker that protrudes outward a little. That bigger speaker is actually the intercom that announces the stations or any message from the conductor and is completely isolated from the doors closing system. On older cars they used to be positioned in other locations but with newer or refurbished Gallery cars, Metra began fitting the intercoms on the other Door Closing light.
These were all taken by me during my trip to Chicago between June 2nd and June 9th. All taken with my Panasonic HC-V800 and a few with my external Rode Stereo VideoMic. - Zábava
You know you’ve spent too much time on Metra when you start hearing this in your sleep
You can't escape the closing doors
I love Metra Trains, I’ve even rode the UPNW line, and probably the MDN line.
Metra is my favorite train
Same here. I am like obsessed with Metra. I know so much about the Metra system it's not even funny. I can tell you every stop on 10 of the 11 lines, and identify every locomotive.
Metra train really love to slam doors
It's like a prison train, stainless steel everywhere
I guess to graffiti proof the exterior?
Nice job man, keep it up
Objective for next year
@@RaisedLetter huh?
@@tyhik9338 won't be in Chicago again till next year
@@RaisedLetter oh wow
the only reason i checked the comments was to see if you would be here
Caltrain has this chime too, but the voice is female
3:45 Thats the same ding-dong sound used for the ATS system on Japanese trains!
The bilevel cab cars are made by Nippon
That same exact chime is also used for MBTA, VRE, & CalTrain (With a Female Voice)
This whole video is a C A U T I O N That the doors are about to close
0:47 gunshot

WeGo Star (formerly Music City Star) now uses a female voice on their cars.
That may or may not be the recording in the beginning...
@@RaisedLetter it is the one at the beginning. Select Caltrain cars also use it.
@@davidng2336 4011 and 4025. I have a short on 4011
The old Pullman gallery cars still have the man’s voice. I know one of the budd cars has the female voice. Do all of them now?
2:50 door chime?
Same door 2:58
Speaker was faulty
Caltrain too! And I think a few other commuter rail systems in the USA have the same chime tone.
I would’ve replaced the BYOO-LONG! chime with a recording of “the doors are about to close!” then a simple double beep

The 5 railroads that use it are Metra, Caltrain, MBTA, VRE and Nashville Star
Ok ok stop 🛑
STAR has one of the worst in my opinion
I've heard a better version on Caltrain
