That statement is irrelevant now... They're all freelancing self-employed mercenaries at the club for a limited time only, no loyalty, just to maximise & get as much out of the club, sponsors & personal tie-in deals that they & their agents/managers can manage.

They dont make em like Roy anymore. A true legend and could listen to him for hours. We had Ian Ashbee at Hull our own midfield general and it gets the crowd up. Trouble for the elite clubs now is that the players( and their egos) are bigger than the club, managers and certainly the fans and heart of these clubs dont seem to matter these days....different game now of course.

Eventually there has to come a point where Roy and Sir Alex have a sit down to hash things out.
Wouldn't say either of them bat an eye tbh, it is what it is, life goes on.
If Sir Alex heads out before they do, guaranteed Roy will regret it. He is a sensible guy and knows that managing United at the height of their power was a tough job and he didn't need to bring personal stuff into it.. I'm hopeful they can sort things out.

Roy could really do a great job as manager especially since his stint with sky sports. People have seen a calmer, comedic but still the passionate side to him. So I think a lot of young players would really like to play for him, with the fear factor not on the table as much. I think he could actually be the prodical son coming back to reignite the the auld fellas glory.
Give keano a netflix documentary special bruv. Mans got alot of great stories to tell.

Roy and Jamie are right, big characters in the game are rare. The PL used to be full of them in every team but I think players today have been coached to death from a young age, most players are afraid to express their own personality when they step onto a pitch.

My dad and I went to a charity night where Roy Keane was speaking talking and doing a signing after. He rang me and asked me to grab a man utd shirt 2 hours before so Roy could sign it. The only one I could find was a replica 1999 champions league final shirt. Keane finished the evening started signing shirts and my dad..shaking layed the top face down and Keane flipped it and said champions league final??? My dad went white everyone went quiet and Keane after 10 seconds let out a smirk signed it and shook my dad's hand. Has to be the rarest thing he has in his collection now. A one off just like keano.

@@nont18411 what tough love? Put the right people in the right positions, create a modern structure and have the right facilities. You don't need to go in and start tearing individuals down and belittling them to do that. You want the tough love to punish players and staff for not doing as well as you'd expect, not to actually improve the club. Mourinho tried that, all the good it did. Same for every club he's managed since Madrid. That time of screaming and balling at people to get a positive reaction is over, the best modern teams aren't doing that.
