I was more confused on how swiping on a phone was considered dating. Generational thing, I guess.
@@deanospimoniful It's a generational and culture shift thing, a lot of the places where people used to meet people (churches, clubs, etc) get WAY less attendance these days, so dating apps have filled that hole. 🤷♂
I will say, almost no one *just* dates through apps unless they're long distance or something, the app is just a different method of getting to know someone, people still go out for coffee and stuff like that! 😂
@@Imperial_Squid people actually find dates in clubs? They are so loud you can't talk to anyone I have no idea how that would work
To get rid of a rhythm heaven fever it’s important to get lots of rhythm heaven rest and drink plenty of rhythm heaven fluids

Bits And Bips is another Rhythm Heaven style rhythm game. It has a demo on Steam and an adorable art style and charm.

I don't really play rhythm games, but I do enjoy watching others play them. And after watching Barry play some Rhythm Heaven a while back, I'd be 100% down to see more of it here. Such good bops.

I loved Rhythm Heaven (or as it was called in Germany: Rhythm Paradise) as a child and remember it fondly. ♥
When I showed it to my husband (then boyfriend) for the first time he nailed more or less everything first try. I mean, he's in a band so I guess it makes sense but I never knew that there was like an entirely new second half to the game that I never got to because I couldn't get all of the gold medals. 😅
Also, it's really cool to see, or to hear rather, how the left and right mechanics transfer into the left and right headphone. Very clever. 🤓
I love that everytime I consider buying a chill game Dan ends up playing it on PlayFrame

I have no clue how anyone can play a rhythm game. It's just sorcery to me. On that note, if Rhythm Sprout isn't on your radar, it probly should be.

Yeah...I suck at rhythm games and do not enjoy them. Heck, I even struggle with the timing on crusher traps in platformer games!
@@Sientir It's a genre that baffles me. I can platform, FPS (with dodges that intentionally, barely count as dodging), and scream through space at full tilt in what amounts to an engine with four guns stapled on and not crash into things (most of the time, sometimes AI opponents pull nonsense maneuvers and I hit something)
But somehow rhythm games are just magic I can't comprehend.

It takes practice like any other game, but once you get good, you can kinda do anything.
One of my favorite things about watching others play a rhythm game is that you can kind of play along with them! Always fun to see if I can match my little finger taps along with the buttons, even if I can't really score myself.
This is so charming! And the art style is gorgeous! Definitely on my wishlist (Dan pls stop making me wanna buy games!)
Also I couldn't help but to tap along with the beat, the music is so good
i thought to buy this game as im a big fan of rhythm heaven but wasnt convinced by the trailer in store. im glad i get to review it here.
im buying it! im all for that hard mode! plus the calibration settings seem like a nice safeguard.
Are there rhythm games that _don't_ have that kind of calibration??

I've only played a handful of rhythm games, but one that I always go back to is a game called Patapon, or specifically Patapon 2 which honestly just plays better because it's less punishing.
It's not the hardest rhythm game, and I imagine most rhythm game afficionados might find the lack of rhythm diversity kinda boring.
However!
Patapon 2 is a rhythm game in which you command a small army with your rhythm game inputs, against Monster Hunter -esque bosses.
(tIncoming wall of text gushing about an old PSP game)
Like, the rhythm you have to keep is a rigid 4 beats on, 4 beats pause, but those 4 beats can be one of a number of different commands;
Attack, Defend, Retreat, Jump, Charge Up, etc.
The bosses have cool designs and well telegraphed attacks, so most of the challenge is in endurance - maintaining the rhythm while reacting to the boss.
There's also the magic command, which will perform the magic you've equipped for the mission. This starts a minigame with it's own rhythm to match and the magic duration depends on how well you do. These can be causing rain, snow, a tailwind, or straight attack and defense boosts. Depending on your units strengths and weaknesses all of these can be useful, but the only one you strictly need to beat the game is rain.
You've got Sword-and-Board knights, Spearmen, Bowmen, Knights on horseback, club wielding heavies, mages, bards and even bird rider units , though you can only choose three of these classes at once.
There's also the Hero unit, who can swap to any of the classes you have unlocked, and does a special super move when you get perfect timing, unique to each class.
Honestly I find the most fun is in equipping your army with gear from each mission. Growing from tin axes and wooden bows to lightning spears and divine staves.
There's also a handful of minigames you can unlock to try between missions. These are mostly used for getting resources before you have a more efficient way to get them from bosses. But there's one that provides stew, which can give your units bonus health for a mission, and another that if you use a rare resource and match the beats perfectly, actually gives the strongest equipment sets in the game.
The biggest problem with the game is how grindy it is. To just beat the campaign you don't need to grind too much, especially if you play on easy so perfect commands are far more likely than not. You might need to repeat fortress missions for gear a couple times, but nothing horrendous.
If you wanted to use the system for leveling up your units however you would have to grind the bosses countless times, even just to level up one of the basic units to max. And that's without leveling the more interesting unit classes and types.
There are trophies for getting one of each of the three strongest types to lvl10, and to do so requires hours of grinding, after hours of grinding to get a team that can grind effectively. It's a really bad system, that I'm so glad you don't need to engage in outside of the minimum to unlock the different classes.
The game is available on PS4/5 on the store, and I highly recommend trying it. It starts slow, but it's so cool to command a little army with a rhythm game.
I watched the LRR stream of this & I wish there were a PC port of Patapon because it looked like so much fun.

Finally got around to watching this and it looks delightful! I will have to give the game a try myself when I have time (sometime in the next century, hopefully 😅)
8:50 - dang… I know Dan has a lot more practice and experience with rhythm games than I do, but even so, I’m amazed by how well he was able to react to all of the hard mode stuff (the clouds in front of the character and the speed changing and…)

I have the impression that Hard Mode is actually not that much harder because you get more chances to fail overall. It ends up being roughly equally hard, with each individual chance giving you fewer points but there being more chances.

I'm a professional musician, and this might be a fun way to work on my rhythm and timing. I noticed some of the minigames can be done with audio cues alone.

Even watching this was stressful. throw me into a celeste level after months, a survival horror with no ammo left, a high heat run with no death defiances left, the white palace with no heals, a water level with no bubbles nearby, a souls boss with the wrong weapon or a monster hunter quest with no meal, just something anything I have a chance at winning so I can relax to the challenge but not this.
You know you have a lot of bots following you when your follower count hits 30 Billion. XD

I remember trying to play Space Channel 5 and not getting it because of the lack of what felt like adequate feedback. In this game, I instantly knew when an incorrect input was entered and how it should have been input. I'm going to have to try this game myself!
To who has played this game, is there like a self betterment path? The protagonist starts from a dull and lonely life, with mundane wishes like social media likes, shopping and junk food. By night two it's still the same, but there's a sense of duty, staying fit, making money even if it's a brainless job, searching for relationships (poor aliens and robots). By night 3 they seem to have picked themselves up and... time? Maybe spiritual fulfillment?
I like the music.

This game is really, really charming, damn.
I wonder if this game could be played blind. There were a bunch of levels that seemed like there were distinct audio cues for the patterns you were supposed to hit.

The responsiveness and theming is there, but the animation style and palette leaves a little bit to be desired.
One of the things that makes Rhythm Heaven (and Warioware) so unique and awesome is that every minigame is something completely different from the last one, in terms of theme, in terms of direction, appearance, color choice, play style/control, etc.
Even two minigames that have almost exactly the same rhythmic style in Rhythm Heaven feel different to play because of their song, look, animation, and so on!
A lot of these minigames feel right at home next to rhythm heaven, it's the fact they're next to *each other* that makes them feel not as strong together imo

Okay, this don't sound fair, but with no display of what to hit when, this just looks like a mess to me. I know some folks can DDR in blind mode (no arrows) or even blind folded, but I can feel the stress already.
