This feels like the strangely comforting, ghibli-esque cousin to the liminal horror projects that have been showing up for a few years now. I personally really like the exact vibe you have captured here and love finding you have made a new post!
@@Eternal_ruins I would legit play a survival game of this world, you could find random letters of past wanderers, perhaps other players, you could set up an area where you live - build magical defenses and serve a spirit, or wander and find strange artifacts. It would have relaxing music and it would obviously have some sort of engaging exploration options for movement, cool puzzles like finding missing pieces to a bridge and making your own or more complicated ones made by ancient beings to keep things locked away, for whatever reason. just me thinking out loud :)

One thing I love about the architecture of the Eternal Ruins is that I can't really point out a single real life inspiration. It feels like it's got European, American, Middle-Eastern, and some Buddhist looking things as well. It's a mash of everything that screams "ruin", and everything is familiar, but still so esoteric and incomprehensible. And I love it !
Whoever were the first wanderers who first met each other and decided to start the Silver Circle are absolute legends. For something like this to start and spread to the point that new wanderers can find their writings throught the whole ruins, it had to have been a considerably big group, who each went on a way and began leaving notes, maybe like a group of seven or so who collectively began leaving these notes. It's hard to imagine that a single person would start this and the next to pick it up, leave more notes, and come up with a name that is collectively agreed upon, wanderers would find different notes at different times, everyone would likely come up with different names for them, so I definitely think it must have started with an organized group that decided to share knowledge. It's a fair possibility, since some of us decide to stop at spirit shrines and settle at them, maybe it began after one by one a group of wanderers at a shrine got big enough and decided to do something. It also intrigues me that after we awaken, even though we don't have memories or a name, we know how to write and read? Otherwise we wouldn't be able to understand these notes left by the Silver Circle. Makes me wonder if we aren't born in the ruins, and have instead been placed inside the statues long ago without our memories, but we still retain the knowledge of a single language somehow. It would be awkward to meet a wanderer and be unable to speak with them, either because they didn't learn how to communicate with words or because they speak a different language, the Silver Circle wouldn't leave notes that others are unable to read, so it appears that we all speak one common language. If it's true that we are not born here, then we were all trapped, I believe something of much bigger purpose is at play if that's the case.
We weren't necessarily trapped though, maybe we were placed in stasis for protection or safe-keeping to outlast some sort of plague or alternate apocolyptic event? By our own kind or another. Maybe something found us in stasis and devoured our memories, or maybe we though it best to forget the past for our own good?
@@thomasgeppi6762 These are also interesting thoughts. I always held to the idea of finding an exit to the ruins, to give meaning to all of the endless walking, so I did feel trapped. The possibility of this being to protect us, and an "outside" being more dangerous than the ruins is quite haunting.
@@Kennedy00Louis What intrigues me too is the notion of maybe finding other chambers full of sleeping wanderers. Did we all come from the same room of stone cocoons? or are there others out there? I get the feeling the ruins are too large to "escape", and with no memories outside of basic functionality, I never considered an "outside before", but if there is, I wonder what it would be. Endless ocean, endless sky? Or a different ruin altogether?
Something I wonder, has a traveller ever kept something in the ruins as a "pet"? Doesn't even have to be an animal or spirit, just a small potted or jar'd plant to keep them company and give them more purpose. Just seems neat.
Personally, this sounds like a good idea. I reckon keeping various plants with you would be quite useful- eg. fruits for emergencies, some sort of glow berry, useful herbs, so on. Artifacts were mentioned, so that could be anything- potentially some sort of light, which you could use on the plants to help them survive even in dark areas. Now i want to study the plants of the ruins-
"Tablets or scrolls, like the one you're reading now." This makes me curious about the language of the Eternal Ruins. First, of course the basics of what it looks like and how it's structured, but also; how do all the wanderers all know the same language, spoken or written? It doesn't seem likely that the knowledge is passed wanderer to wanderer, as new ones awaken, considering how little time wanderers generally spend together. Do the members of the Silver Circle have their own language that they invented specifically for the purpose of recording knowledge? Questions, questions, and I could go on . . . There's actually a language in the works over on the discord, called Upana. The wanderers have an innate knowledge of how to speak it, but maybe not to read it. I could totally imagine secret languages too. Glad you liked the video!
the idea of endless structures who lost their purpose, and caretakers who continue working without realizing that everything is in ruins reminds me of BLAME! (a great manga, atmospheric, recommend it)
100% a great source of inspiration for this project if the creator hasn't already read the manga. Additionally, have you read Piranesi? endless rooms in a structure so big, the ocean and sky eat away at the lower and upper floors respectively, its fascinating!

Goodness, your lighting here is really reminiscent of the game "Shadow of the Colossus" with the green/yellow hue. Also helps that it's lighting a ruined structure. That being said, it's all said with the greatest affection since anything that references or reminds me of SotC gets me hooked already. You are doing fantastic work!
New residents being spawned more or less fully formed combines wonderfully with this exposition in there being an in-universe reason as to why someone who already lives there would need something explained to them.
I find the idea of the silver circle so fascinating like a group that can only exchange knowledge through hidden spots that they can only pray others in the group may find and are knowledgeable enough about the ways of the group to know every symbol
The way that those videos construct the worldbuilding, implying almost effortlessly how much more lore there is in this world to discover is so well made. It is so easy to get imerse in the story and see yourself in the ruins, wondering how it is to truly live there.
This concept could become one of the greatest games in my opinion. It strongly reminds me of Sky: Children of the Light, but with that component of “softened solitude” (“softened” because even tho you are alone for the 90% of time, you always know there are others you might meet) that Journey has. But probably the aspect I like the most is the fact that, yes, there is always the hope of finding some other fellow Wanderer, but, as you said previously, not all Wanderers are good and might try to harm you. And THIS I think is what makes every encounter special; if you meet someone who proves to be trustworthy, then that makes the bond between you and them even stronger…. until you part ways never to see each other again (most likely). Plus this meeting-people-part of such game would be incredibly interesting given the “roles” some Wanderers can “achieve” by becoming Wardens or Keepers. And the personalisation of your Wanderer with the clothing you can find or craft (or make some “lesser” spirit craft for you). And the combat (saw that sword there…) And the enormous amount of lore that can be put in such a world This concept is just too interesting to me. I think this comment is way longer than it should be
This is an awesome take on the whole liminal space concept. It almost seems like limbo or purgatory of sorts. Both beautiful and terrifying. Serine and yet empty. A vast paradox almost designed to challenge the mind and body of a wanderer. The only place in fiction I could compare it to is MtG Ravnica. A entire plane of experience consisting of buildings and structures. Difference here is that it’s a little more empty with a habit of changing. More of a spiritual experience a wanderer has as they find meaning. Maybe their really isn’t one Your art is amazing and love seeing an image get formed as you talk about this place! Always love seeing what’s the next topic when a new post comes out 😊

I cannot wait for more of this project to be brought the life! This is such a cool concept, combining some of my favorite concepts into one. Please don’t feel pressured though, but man I’m just saying I’m loving what you’re doing! Hopefully this will be a very prosperous journey for you in your life and maybe either make a name for yourself or bring to light more of this style of entertainment, which in my mind their isn’t to much out for for this kind of thing. Please don’t ever feel trapped by your project though, real life always comes first and then things like this. Love your work man!
Imagining a Group of People, like the Silver Circle, going for the same Goal of seeking Knowledge, aware of each others Existence but never actually meeting in Person is pretty a interesting Concept ✌️💚
This is such a cool concept, I love how this world develops, and the narration just adds so much. As I think of it, this world does give a simmilar vibe as "Girl's Last Tour", then again, you said many things were an inspiration for you here.
It's really interesting how the wanderers have gained the culture of leaving pebbles wherever they go. It makes me wonder how it even got created in the first place, where did the wanderers learn of such a tradition? This is probably a favorite worldbuilding project on CZcams for me, it's really unique in concept and really contemplative in its' themes. It really makes the world be really immersive in a way that I haven't seen before.
I can imagine what it feels like to wander through the ruins. Your way of telling always manages to inspire me in my own stories and gives me a feeling of tranquility and nostalgia. I remember many years ago I imagined a story with an infinite labyrinth that led to other worlds.
At this point your videos have become a medicine for the immensly stressful periodo I'm going though. The quality in world building, painting, shape language and versatility you show is just astonishing.
This is almost cosmic horror - specifically, the concept of things that we can't even begin to understand. Except for horror, this specific series has made peace with the fact that they understand nothing and the world works on it's own, unimaginable rules
I'm eager to see where-ever and what-ever this may lead to. Even if it remains just a handful of youtube videos know that it's been admired and enjoyed.

The art and descriptions here are just so incredibly evocative. The notion of doubt regarding the world beyond the ruins immediately made me think of some sort of religion with myths surrounding the outside, maybe focused on the "Source" of the light that filters down from higher areas
I’m really glad I caught your channel just as you began. I think what you are doing is incredible. There is something so genius in the simplicity of a mere idea with no intended outcome. While you may not have a specific goal for the evolution of your world, the lore and associated imagery lend themselves to great potential. I could easily imagine the Eternal Ruins as a TTRPG, a video game of various genres, a comic series, or a film/show. Whatever happens with your creation, I am definitely invested in your journey. Keep up the absolutely spectacular work.

This place is so beautiful, but I can imagine the ruins becoming maddening in excess. I find it very difficult to make beautiful things scary, and I'd love to learn how to make my art invoke the same feelings as yours. You are amazing.
all of your episodes and stories from this world you have been creating seems so well thought out and so mesmerizing. and there seems to be two reasons behind it all. ones is: your love and passion behind all of it, the other is in my opinion is a spiritual meaning behind all these. the labirynth is a symbol for your life (or only your mind itself) and the light that you cannot reach might be the "enlightment" that you can sought after but can never perfectly find, although by searching and experiencing you get closer and closer, sometimes further and closer again if you don't sit down and get comfortable. all the stairs and doors are oportunities, all the crumbled areas that make you turn back is fear and trauma, all the huge empty rooms are hurdles you have to get through alone. really entertaining and makes you think. great work!
Theory: The wanderers were a backup plan for a civilization that was facing absolute extinction. Be it plague or famine or something else, extinction was guaranteed. Maybe they asked the old spirits whose powers were much more great to help create the wanderers and/or the stone they rest in. Something they either didn't foresee or forgot, was the servitors. They either forgot to turn them off, or didn't expect the servitors to be able to shape the ruins so drastically over the amount of time that the wanderers would be asleep.
I could imagine an emissive gas in the atmosphere which is so dim as to be imperceptible in small closed spaces, but with enough volume of gas, glows as bright as a cloudy day. Trying to find the source of light would be like chasing a rainbow... This gas may become excited by some undiscovered cyclical force or energy, perhaps the very breathing of the prevalent moss? Good stuff as always! Keep it up! :D

This is absolutely my favourite fantasy series right now, and I can't wait to see where the project takes you. A mysteries space full of ancient stone ruins, those are one of my favourite settings ever since childhood, compounded by breath of the wild and its world and music, my love for overgrown ruins has been constant in my life, it's one of the reasons that I got into the classics and history during university. It has inspired me to write and create a world again, so thank for you that, I can't wait to watch more in the future!!!!!
this is one of the most beautiful , compelling and immersive thing ive seen in a while this is sooo goood i cant wait to see more , it feels like im being transported to a liminal place , a place in between without destination or beggining , some sort of purgatory yet not inherently malevolent and those that have not gone "hollow" could inherit this place's blessings/gifts man this would kill as a long ass artbook that presents the story like an actual person's journal but dk how that would work but this way is also superb , so many beautiful things can be said abt this project urghh
If you ever blow up, an art book with the transcriptions from videos and those patreon pages would be a no-brainer for me, having this stuff in print would be amazing.

Two girls in a post apocolyptic world wonder the ruins of their fallen civilization. I look forward to learning more about this wondrous world you're creating.
I really love the Eternal Ruins! It's such a beautiful mysterious world! I live in a very rural place. It's extremely quiet here. But there's always the sounds of nature to keep me company. Little friendly birds as you walk a path. Or Swallows residing in the high rafters of old barns. The rustling of leaves in the breeze, the babble of a creek. Also, in the forests of North America, the First Nation's peoples of Canada and Native Americans in the US would bend saplings as a directional marker. So, a seemingly random tree, like this, _¡-' , to the oblivious would just be odd. But to the knowing, it would be valuable information. That might be one way for the wanderers to leave clues for others. I'm always looking forward to your videos! 💕
Man i love the vibe of this project. It's just the perfect match of some of my favorite media out there like blame, and the team ico games, while also being it's own thing. Very inspirational stuff.
I find it fascinating how despite groups of no more than half a dozen forming, a society of sorts still formed. The community the wanders have fostered in the form of pebbles and other signs of mortal presence, to an organization with a stated goal of learning and disseminating knowledge.
Just wondering, do you think of your art being labeled as "ghibli-like" as a praise or do you like the compliments be more specific to your own art? Anyways, yours is one of the unique ones that one can distinguish at a glance. Keep up the good work!
I don't know, I've heard 'it reminds me of x' so much that I don't really register it anymore. It's definitely a compliment, but I wouldn't say I'm trying to make it look like a ghibli movie. I think there's just not that much art in this style so it's the first thing the brain jumps to.
Expansive, Neverending, or infinite. I like the idea that there could be a wanderer out there that climbs endlessly trying to find a way out. Or fond a top that is his life's goal.
Am gonna say it again, this give me the amazing feeling of wonder, mystic, and darkness that made in abyss gave me. Its such a rare vive, but i love it.

Sound track and atmosphere reminds me of SOUL REAVER 2 video game, also, no matter how many answers game gave it just brought even more questions with them....I love that series.

I love the world you have been building up! I do have a bit of criticism that you may or may not care about though: The travelers you describe are very human in nature, but also in expectations which can be relatable but doesn't make too much sense. As an example you said early on in the video that the silence can be initially 'hard to deal with', but aren't travelers for the most part born into silence and only later learn of others? Keep up the great work and I look forward to the next entry ^^
I found this series(?) not too long ago, and immediately became hooked. I like the aesthetic, it’s definitely ghibli like. A fallen civilization theme reminds me of Hollow Knight, and I like that. The way it’s formatted to seem like an entry is really cool. Your voice is relaxing, and it sounds like an experienced trailer, which forces someone to listen and pay close attention.
Love your design style and aesthetics. It reminds me of the parts of the Dark Souls world that I love the most, such as grand structures, the mystery of its history and construction and so on. Can't wait to see more!

I find the idea of the silver circle so fascinating like a group that can only exchange knowledge through hidden spots that they can only pray others in the group may find and are knowledgeable enough about the ways of the group to know every symbol

The way that those videos construct the worldbuilding, implying almost effortlessly how much more lore there is in this world to discover is so well made. It is so easy to get imerse in the story and see yourself in the ruins, wondering how it is to truly live there.

This concept could become one of the greatest games in my opinion. It strongly reminds me of Sky: Children of the Light, but with that component of “softened solitude” (“softened” because even tho you are alone for the 90% of time, you always know there are others you might meet) that Journey has. But probably the aspect I like the most is the fact that, yes, there is always the hope of finding some other fellow Wanderer, but, as you said previously, not all Wanderers are good and might try to harm you. And THIS I think is what makes every encounter special; if you meet someone who proves to be trustworthy, then that makes the bond between you and them even stronger…. until you part ways never to see each other again (most likely).
Plus this meeting-people-part of such game would be incredibly interesting given the “roles” some Wanderers can “achieve” by becoming Wardens or Keepers.
And the personalisation of your Wanderer with the clothing you can find or craft (or make some “lesser” spirit craft for you).
And the combat (saw that sword there…)
And the enormous amount of lore that can be put in such a world

A ttrpg of this would be incredible. There's plenty of room for a dm to expand and iterate on, and plenty of unique but gamey stories to tell.
This is an awesome take on the whole liminal space concept. It almost seems like limbo or purgatory of sorts. Both beautiful and terrifying. Serine and yet empty. A vast paradox almost designed to challenge the mind and body of a wanderer. The only place in fiction I could compare it to is MtG Ravnica. A entire plane of experience consisting of buildings and structures. Difference here is that it’s a little more empty with a habit of changing. More of a spiritual experience a wanderer has as they find meaning. Maybe their really isn’t one

It's really interesting how the wanderers have gained the culture of leaving pebbles wherever they go. It makes me wonder how it even got created in the first place, where did the wanderers learn of such a tradition?
This is probably a favorite worldbuilding project on CZcams for me, it's really unique in concept and really contemplative in its' themes. It really makes the world be really immersive in a way that I haven't seen before.
I can imagine what it feels like to wander through the ruins. Your way of telling always manages to inspire me in my own stories and gives me a feeling of tranquility and nostalgia. I remember many years ago I imagined a story with an infinite labyrinth that led to other worlds.
At this point your videos have become a medicine for the immensly stressful periodo I'm going though. The quality in world building, painting, shape language and versatility you show is just astonishing.
This is almost cosmic horror - specifically, the concept of things that we can't even begin to understand. Except for horror, this specific series has made peace with the fact that they understand nothing and the world works on it's own, unimaginable rules
I'm eager to see where-ever and what-ever this may lead to. Even if it remains just a handful of youtube videos know that it's been admired and enjoyed.

The art and descriptions here are just so incredibly evocative. The notion of doubt regarding the world beyond the ruins immediately made me think of some sort of religion with myths surrounding the outside, maybe focused on the "Source" of the light that filters down from higher areas
I’m really glad I caught your channel just as you began. I think what you are doing is incredible. There is something so genius in the simplicity of a mere idea with no intended outcome. While you may not have a specific goal for the evolution of your world, the lore and associated imagery lend themselves to great potential. I could easily imagine the Eternal Ruins as a TTRPG, a video game of various genres, a comic series, or a film/show. Whatever happens with your creation, I am definitely invested in your journey. Keep up the absolutely spectacular work.

This place is so beautiful, but I can imagine the ruins becoming maddening in excess. I find it very difficult to make beautiful things scary, and I'd love to learn how to make my art invoke the same feelings as yours. You are amazing.
all of your episodes and stories from this world you have been creating seems so well thought out and so mesmerizing. and there seems to be two reasons behind it all. ones is: your love and passion behind all of it, the other is in my opinion is a spiritual meaning behind all these. the labirynth is a symbol for your life (or only your mind itself) and the light that you cannot reach might be the "enlightment" that you can sought after but can never perfectly find, although by searching and experiencing you get closer and closer, sometimes further and closer again if you don't sit down and get comfortable. all the stairs and doors are oportunities, all the crumbled areas that make you turn back is fear and trauma, all the huge empty rooms are hurdles you have to get through alone.

Theory: The wanderers were a backup plan for a civilization that was facing absolute extinction. Be it plague or famine or something else, extinction was guaranteed. Maybe they asked the old spirits whose powers were much more great to help create the wanderers and/or the stone they rest in.
Something they either didn't foresee or forgot, was the servitors. They either forgot to turn them off, or didn't expect the servitors to be able to shape the ruins so drastically over the amount of time that the wanderers would be asleep.
I could imagine an emissive gas in the atmosphere which is so dim as to be imperceptible in small closed spaces, but with enough volume of gas, glows as bright as a cloudy day. Trying to find the source of light would be like chasing a rainbow... This gas may become excited by some undiscovered cyclical force or energy, perhaps the very breathing of the prevalent moss?

This is absolutely my favourite fantasy series right now, and I can't wait to see where the project takes you. A mysteries space full of ancient stone ruins, those are one of my favourite settings ever since childhood, compounded by breath of the wild and its world and music, my love for overgrown ruins has been constant in my life, it's one of the reasons that I got into the classics and history during university. It has inspired me to write and create a world again, so thank for you that, I can't wait to watch more in the future!!!!!

this is one of the most beautiful , compelling and immersive thing ive seen in a while this is sooo goood i cant wait to see more , it feels like im being transported to a liminal place , a place in between without destination or beggining , some sort of purgatory yet not inherently malevolent and those that have not gone "hollow" could inherit this place's blessings/gifts man this would kill as a long ass artbook that presents the story like an actual person's journal but dk how that would work but this way is also superb , so many beautiful things can be said abt this project urghh
If you ever blow up, an art book with the transcriptions from videos and those patreon pages would be a no-brainer for me, having this stuff in print would be amazing.

I really love the Eternal Ruins! It's such a beautiful mysterious world! I live in a very rural place. It's extremely quiet here. But there's always the sounds of nature to keep me company. Little friendly birds as you walk a path. Or Swallows residing in the high rafters of old barns. The rustling of leaves in the breeze, the babble of a creek. Also, in the forests of North America, the First Nation's peoples of Canada and Native Americans in the US would bend saplings as a directional marker. So, a seemingly random tree, like this, _¡-' , to the oblivious would just be odd. But to the knowing, it would be valuable information. That might be one way for the wanderers to leave clues for others. I'm always looking forward to your videos! 💕

I find it fascinating how despite groups of no more than half a dozen forming, a society of sorts still formed. The community the wanders have fostered in the form of pebbles and other signs of mortal presence, to an organization with a stated goal of learning and disseminating knowledge.

I don't know, I've heard 'it reminds me of x' so much that I don't really register it anymore. It's definitely a compliment, but I wouldn't say I'm trying to make it look like a ghibli movie. I think there's just not that much art in this style so it's the first thing the brain jumps to.

I love the world you have been building up! I do have a bit of criticism that you may or may not care about though: The travelers you describe are very human in nature, but also in expectations which can be relatable but doesn't make too much sense. As an example you said early on in the video that the silence can be initially 'hard to deal with', but aren't travelers for the most part born into silence and only later learn of others?

I found this series(?) not too long ago, and immediately became hooked. I like the aesthetic, it’s definitely ghibli like. A fallen civilization theme reminds me of Hollow Knight, and I like that. The way it’s formatted to seem like an entry is really cool. Your voice is relaxing, and it sounds like an experienced trailer, which forces someone to listen and pay close attention.
