CC was asked if she gets any advice and she said, “ADVICE, NOBODY GIVES ME ADVICE, I WISH!”
WTH!! She looked miserable, very sad to see. I think she feels trapped. I wish she was happy like Kate Martin is with her coach/team. Sad situation coming from Fever Management for not stepping in and stopping this shit show from Coach Sides!!

This is simply the reality of her situation. She was drafted by a bad team (this is normal for #1 picks) and Martin was drafted by a good team. She also has a ton of hype so she will get the best shot of the opposing team almost every night. This is not something to feel sorry for, but is simply the growing pains that come with the situation.

Wheeler and Mitchell should be released because if you're not a team distributor to a franchise player like CC is time to release those two because they only thinking about themselves and not the team in general. If CC doesn't win Rookie of the year then the fault goes to the Fever organization setting her to fail.

The statement "Nobody gives me advice in the game, I wish" highlights a lack of coaching and communication. The coach should call timeouts and adjust plays, but instead, they force Caitlin Clark to pass to underperforming players, disrupting her natural flow. Indiana Fever needs an experienced coach to compete effectively.

  • @JE-IC
    @JE-IC Pƙed 2 dny +72

Those of us who followed Iowa for the last 2 seasons already knew this about Caitlin. Caitlin has repeatedly said in interviews that she is very competitive and wants to WIN.
If she doesn't have a coach interfering with her style of play, she'll pass if she thinks her teammate will be able to catch the ball and do something appropriate with it. She'll take the shot if she thinks she can make it.
She needs a coach who will bench the people who refuse to pass to her.
She needs a coach who will drill screens in practice and bench people who are incompetent at setting them.

If you saw the game, then you saw Clark work her way through traffic and on 4 occasions in the 4th quarter she came open and ready to shoot with a quick pass and in all 4 cases 2x Wheeler, 2x Mitchell either made a bad pass into the middle or took a shot . 1 2 point play out of 4 chances to pass to an open Clark. Either their court vision is bad or they just want their own points. The team is not together and that's a function of coaching . Those 4 would have given Clark 13 shots, probably made at least 2 of them. Holding her head with both hands like wtf after one wasn't passed to her was all I needed to see to know she's beyond frustrated. Good thing she's a team player or she'd make her dissatisfaction more publicly known.

She dishes to ball to her teammates but they don’t dish it back, the don’t set good screens and the ice her out. Plain and simple her coach and black teammates don't like her. Don't think the coach wanted Caitlin but got stuck with her, she has an ego problem. Cautlins black teammates don't like her, think they have it made up not to pass the ball to her, not catch her passes, miss baskets on purpose, all to make Caitlin look bad, hoping to run her out of the league. I think she needs to start shooting 18-20 shots a game and if they don't like it, bench her. She's been double teamed her entire career and was able to get shots off at will. Many of these "mature women" she's playing against are the same girls she dominated in college. She should start bringing the ball up and shooting 3's. Show them what selfish play looks like!

Starting 5 should be Caitlin, Aliyah Boston, Temi Fagbenle, Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull. NaLyssa Smith has been cooked like a salmon in the last two games. She couldn’t handle Angel Reese and the Seattle guards were all over her. The Fever had a chance to draft Skylar Diggins-Smith this past spring, but turned her down. She was the one covering Caitlin like a blanket last night. Also, she can drive to the basket, the bigs don’t intimidate her. She’s married with a child. She was with the Mercury until she tied up with Taurasi, and they had a confrontation on the bench during a game. She later said she didn’t feel like she fit in with the Mercury, the gayest team in the league. She would have been a great teammate for Caitlin, and definitely would throw her the ball. Not getting her on the Fever is another massive coaching error.

We must be more educated when talking about Caitlyn Clark's lack of shots.
As a player and coach I will provide said education.
Christie Sides continues to do the wrong things. When asked about Caitlyn's lack of shots she replied Caitlyn needs to take 15 shots a game, instead of saying I need to get Caitlyn 20 shots and I also have to get her 5 to 10 open uncontested shots a game.
X's & O's; Christie Sides is not running an offense conducive to getting Caitlyn Clark open looks and many shots. Christie Sides does the same thing with Caitlyn 90% of the time. Caitlyn dribbles the ball up the court and receives a high screen and roll from Aliyah Boston. There are multiple problems with this:
Aliyah Boston is not an effective outside shooter. That high screen/pick should be set by the shooting guard or shooting forward.
This is predictable and in a professional league where a great deal of the film is watched, teams know they can get the ball out of Caitlyn's hands by committing to the double team and leaving Aliyah Boston as she is not an outside shooter.
An offense's main job is to confuse the defense and make it hard to predict what the team is going to do, if you do the same thing over and over again professional coaches and teams are going to figure out how to stop that.
Caitlyn should not be setting screens/picks. Once she gives the ball up she should get a back screen headed toward the baseline or corner then picks headed back up to the top of the key providing multiple opportunities for shots.
Caitlyn needs a coach who can get her quality shots and her teammates must commit to her being the #1 option.
As a point guard I have played in systems with hundreds of plays and systems comprised of motion offenses with no play calls.
I preferred the motion offensive systems as there were no play calls so the other team could not predict what we were doing and I never did the same thing.
For example I could pass left or right, pick where I passed or away, cut through on the ball side, middle or away, get a backscreen for a layup or to run to the corner etc,. the movement was based on all players knowing offensive team fundamentals, who should get the most shots, where were each persons high percentage areas, where the defense was weak at that time and most importantly no player ever and I mean ever doing the same thing unless the advantage and success was so great noone could stop it!
John please utilize this knowledge at your leisure and let's be more educated when pointing out the flaws in Christie Sides coaching and Caitlyns teammates not being told, clearly, that Caitlyn is always the first option and to know when you should be looking for her and when you are in position to succeed in your high percentage areas on the floor.
This sounds complicated but trust me for fundamentally sound professional players it is not and is completely instinctive!

I agree with you. If you have a player who gets double teamed everytime they get the ball in a shooting position, somebody is open. Why aren't the coaches creative enough to design plays for the open players to cut for the shot? Just trying screens everytime for CC is not working as much because that is all that is happening. CC is a good passer and when they are in a groove and players are cutting off the ball, she finds them. There are 12 players on the team and all of them have scored and they all have the talent but it is up to the coaches to utilize the individual talent and turn it into team play. There is a lot of pressure on CC and AB but there are others on the court that have done well also.

Christie Sides doesn't have different teams and sets to match differing strengths and weaknesses of her opponents.
Thus, CS has not been doing her job. Caitlin benefits from some sets and match-ups that gets her the ball.
If the sets and match-ups doesn't favor Caitlin shooting then she will pass.
Christie has not done one d*** thing to set anybody up for success except for commends for the whole
team to feed the ball down to the post with Alayiah Boston.

What’s funny after last game Sides said she wanted Clark to shoot more, then at practice day before last nights game they asked her if she’d told Clark to shoot more, she said no they were concentrating on defense. It takes what 5 minutes to pull Clark aside and say hey shoot more, instead they have her passing it off at half court in the 2nd half and rarely touching it again. From what I’ve seen they have her run through the defense to come around the backside but by the time she does that the person with the ball goes away from her this is like in 2 seconds.

    • @seeweda
      @seeweda Pƙed 2 dny +4

Also add Boston missed 2 early easy layups on passes from Clark, happens a lot. Which leads to Clark getting frustrated and happens 2-3 times a game always a different player, same for dropped passes 2-3 a game resulting in TOs. As for defense Clark seems to be only one playing it these last 2 games, she still makes a mistake here and there but has gotten much better, her 2 main assignments last 2 games were Marina Mabrey and Skylar Diggins-Smith they shot 4-20 from the field. Both are very good perimeter shooters.

Even if CC22 shoots the ball more, it may not be a better outcome. They need to be quality shots, and she can only get quality shots if her teammates participate and set proper screens. Also, CC22 gets a lot of turnovers because teammates cannot handle a pass. I'm not too fond of turnover stats because they fail to reflect the facts [a good pass that is mishandled is scored as a turnover to the passer].

Aliyah Boston could not have done a better job of radiating dislike toward C. Clark during that press interview. She looks like she is unhappy to be there.
She appears to be sitting hunched/ turned slightly away from her teammate. After answering several questions, Caitlyn tells the press to ask her teammate questions. Boston turns toward Clark quickly, appears to glare at her and flaps her hand at her. What is going on? Where is the coach? She probably should have terminated the interview. If there is a problem between the players, it needs to be ironed out before they go in front of cameras.

Shoot, they just had their butts handed to them by a well-coached team. They were both emotionally drained, Caitlin speaking in a monotone, and Aliyah staring at her hands. Neither of them wanted to deal with the press. That’s why Aliyah waved her hand in a ‘that’s ok’ gesture when Caitlin told the reporters to ask Aliyah a question. The body language I see is two players at the end of their tether . It was Aliyah standing next to Caitlin when they had the strained conversation with Sides after the Sky beat them. What Christie Sides says in a presser and what she tells her team to do are 2 separate things. She's holding Caitlin back. When we had 10 seconds to win the game against the Sky, she had Caitlin inbound the ball and told her to get it to Boston. She missed the shot. I would love to know why she thought that was the answer. She needs to look at the 2 most obvious times that while at Iowa she hit the clutch 3 at the buzzer to win the game. One is against Indiana for the B1G championship in 2023, the other is against Michigan State in 2024 when 2 players were trying their hardest to get her the ball with 2 defenders making it nearly impossible, somehow they finally got it to her where she put it up "from the beak". The refs had to check the monitor to see if she had gotten it off on time, and she did. The center of Carver-Hawkeye arena has the Tigerhawk. She was no closer than 35' when she drained that one, and the one against Indiana was probably a logo shot. She was out there a ways.

Yeah, Christie Sides will tell in the presser that Caitlin has to take more shots, but in the huddles, she has told her that she wanted her to pass the ball to her teammates. Caitlin is frustrated because teammates can't catch her passes, but when she gives them a present from nearly the length of the floor and they can't catch it when it's landing right in her numbers, that's a layup thrown away and CC is charged with the turnover. Caitlin had to inbound the ball and get it to Boston for that last shot against the Sky. It should have been somebody else inbounding and getting it to Clark because she has a better aim, especially at 35 feet. Sides lost that game.
