    Trying to figure out the s function .. the s5 funtion says in the directions that it's for 2.65 -3.3 v or 2.9 -3.36 v .. I'm using a 12v 100ah lithium iron phosphate battery .. so it's confusing me on what to select for the s5 function.. .. I should have about 3.2 volts per cell .. so I know to select 4 in series to make that about 12.8 volts I'm monitoring.. does the s5 selection have anything to do with ah?

    • @Ricks_Tech_Talk

      Set it to 12v and connect the 2 wires to the battery. It's just a voltage meter with set parameters for the voltage you select to display a percentage amount. If you leave it on it will draw power but very very little. If you don't know the cell count, just select 12v, but in most lithium batteries a 12v pack has 4 cells.

      I think the off was when you press the button, press again to turn it on. If the battery is lithium, use the L4 if it's acid just use the 12v. It only has 2 wires to hook up, a pos and neg. I don't have the unit anymore, some I'm just getting the info from the video.

      dublinese4 that's a good question, I want to say no it would not. I have not used the meter in a long time but I think the voltage would have to drop to 0. But don't run your ebike battery down too far and try not to charge it to 100% every time. If you charge to 80% and run it down to 40% you will extend the battery life. But charge to 100% from time to time like every 8-10 charges. I made a video on how to discharge your battery for storge, check it out if you have time czcams.com/video/vppFwoV3-S8/video.html

      You will have 13 in series and if they are good cells it could only take 2 in parallel so a total of 26.
      Each cell could be from 2200 mAh up to 3000 mAh. So 13 batteries with 2 in parallel with say 2500 mAh each would be 5ah at 48v

    • @Ricks_Tech_Talk
      @Ricks_Tech_Talk  Před 7 měsíci +1

      It's very basic, just two wires to hook up. Red goes to the + on the battery and Black to the -- thats it. Hook the wires where you would connect the device that you want to power up and that's it. GL

      @Ricks_Tech_Talk I recently installed this meter and all is great, however when I plug in an On/Off switch to my project the reading is 0% and voltage shows 10.1V
      If I remove the On/Off switch the result is perfectly normal and I get e.g. 35% battery reading.
      Why would this be?
      My project consists of the following: 1) A 12.6V Lithium Ion Battery pack 3S2P 2) LED strip lights (2.0m) and 3) Touch sensitive On/Off switch
      NOTE: All components are DC (female and male) jack compatible and hence plug and play is possible. I installed the Battery Voltage Meter as described ----> It follows AFTER the On/Off switch.
      Please let me know your thoughts.

    • @Ricks_Tech_Talk
      @Ricks_Tech_Talk  Před 7 měsíci

      It needs to be connected to power at all times :( But by doing that it will drain the power of the battery over time.

    • @stephanpieterse6960
      @stephanpieterse6960 Před 7 měsíci

      @@Ricks_Tech_Talk Thanks for your feedback. To confirm, does this mean the meter needs to form part of the circuit and be placed before the On/Off switch? Why would I get a different reading when I place the meter after the On/Off switch? Shouldn't the reading be consistent regardless?

    • @Ricks_Tech_Talk
      @Ricks_Tech_Talk  Před 7 měsíci +1

      My guess is the current / resistance is changed when it's part of the circuit because it needs to find a way back to the battery for a reading. Just hook it up separate from the circuit. But it should work fine if you want to and a switch in line with it to turn it off. Just make sure it's just an on-off switch and not one that lights up when on. If you have something inline with the meter that draws power, it will mess it up. So in the end the meter and your project will connect to the pos and both to the neg. When I did mine, I had the wires connected to the pos and neg hooked to a XT60 connector, I just plugged the meter in when I wanted readings.

    • @Ricks_Tech_Talk
      @Ricks_Tech_Talk  Před 3 lety

      Yes AGM is 12.8-13.1 and Acid I think it 12.6-12.8 at 100% I looked and this meter only does Acid and Lithium-ion. But its just a percentage meter. It will show the correct voltage but the percentage bar of what's left might be off. So you might be overthinking this. Think of this as just a voltage meter with a percentage bar for looks. You know the max and low voltage the batter should be at and that's all you need to know. Lets say you want the battery to show dead at 11.6v but the percentage shows 20% Well now you know to stop at 20% because that's dead. You would need to find on that's adjustable to tweak the percentage bar to the voltage you want. I don't think they make one like that. Hope this helps

      Firstly it is advisable not to connect two different Ah rating batteries. Secondly for example, if you have same Ah batteries and you have connected them in parallel. So the series connection in both batteries is same. So you'll just count series numbers and put them in your battery indicator.
