- I heart that Surakarta (also called Solo) has decent food, so I gave it a try. I ate Selat Solo and Timlo Solo and furthermore I wanted to try Serabi, but they only sold packages with 10 pieces. And this time I was to full and to be honest I didn't want to force myself sharing those Serabi with other people, cause I know how hard it can sometimes be to find locals who want to accept your food or eat with you together 🤓

Tidak coba kusuma sari? Itu restoran legendaris solo. Semua makanan khas solo yang campuran jamam kolonial ada disana. Jadi dulu semasa jaman kolonial Belanda, makanan barat (western food) di modifikasi kerajaan di solo supaya masuk di lidah jawa jaman itu. Selad solo itu jg memamg dahulu sejarahnya dr pengaruh belanda di kerajaan solo. Disana semua enak. Banyak orang luar solo coba makanan khas solo dr budaya belanda dl sana dan mrk senang. Acara pernikahan/wedding di solo juga banyak yang pakai catering restoran itu. You must not miss that restaurant. My late husband from holland and his western friends like the restayrant. Authemtic, and delicious
The main problem was language barrier...yes many Solo food was influence by dutch food, because Surakarta Sultanate was closed to Dutch on imperialism era.

Solo sausage is a type of risoles (savory pancake) typical of Indonesia, which is in the solo area. This food is not one hundred percent made of meat, but beef or chicken which is chopped and then wrapped in egg shells which are fried first..

There are many kinds of food in Solo. such as Hik ( hidangan istimewa kampung ), sate buntel ( mince lamb grilled ), tengkleng ( lamb soup ), timlo ( mix vegetable timlo & timlo soup ), bakso solo, bakmi thoprak (mix noodles soup) , es puter ( traditional coconut shorbet) selat solo, sup matahari ( wedding soup ), sosis solo, pecel ndeso, nasi liwet, serabi solo, cabuk rambak, soto kuali, tahu kupat etc. You can find delicious food and cheap .... in the right place.😊. Hey Carlos, as a Solonese.. I represent to apologize for their attitude of those may not well respond when you spoken such as laughing or walk away, the problem is language barrier, they cannot speaking english so they get nervous and didn't know what to do
sangat disayangkan yaaa... anak2 dithn 2023 seperti ini tdk paham bahasa inggris, minimal pasif lah yaa... asalkan bisa menjelaskan daftar isi menu itu sdh lumayan... ato pihak pengelola mengkursuskan karyawannya untuk berbahasa inggris pasif, sdh sangat membantu... daerah wisata loh.... seperti Bali, Lombok, itu penduduknya, pegawainya banyak yang bs berkomunkikasi dgn baik menggunakan bahasa inggris... otodidak padahal ada beberapa dr mereka sekolah SR ato SD pun tak tamat.. salut....
Iya benar bro, makanan yang terpengaruh saat masa penjajahan belanda, dahulu makanan ini hanya bisa dihidangkan di keraton solo (kerajaan). Dan sedikit informasi makanan di jawa tengah dan jogja banyak yang manis karena pengaruh penjajahan juga, pada saat penjajahan banyak dibangun pabrik gula di jawa tengah dan jogja

tenda biru means blue tent.because before they use that building they sale selat in blue tent.

Yes....Selat Solo is adaptation of European dish during colonial era....It's simplistic, without typical European sauces and herbs, mostly just kecap manis, pepper and salt. I understand its low rating, subpar compared to good steaks that I have tasted.

I think selat solo is a western food that Javanese people modify to their taste, to make it look cool westernized.
Salah cara makannya 🥲 harusnya pakek kuah di sruput. Gitu mana enak (menurutku)
To be honest, even though I am Indonesian, I don't like Selat Solo either. Of course it is a fusion of western and Javanese cuisine, but instead of something new and fresh, for many westerners Selat Solo appears to be a less-tasty version of European cuisine. So I think Indonesians should avoid recommending Selat Solo to Westerners in general. Instead try to recommend something like Tengkleng Bakar, Nasi Liwet and of course, Soto.

I will not stay here forever, so I will not focus on learning dialects. Sadly I will be never able to connect with the majority of Indonesians as much as I can for example with Filipinos. It will usually not be a deep conversation. But if you wanna learn local dialects while traveling abroad - go for it. It can also be an advantage
