  • Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili says a controversial media bill passed by parliament that critics call a threat to free speech is “unacceptable." In an interview with The Associated Press, she harshly criticized the ruling Georgian Deam party for pushing the bill that also is widely seen as a threat to Georgia’s aspirations to join the European Union. Huge crowds of protesters have blocked streets in the capital of Tbilisi and milled angrily outside the parliament building after lawmakers on Tuesday approved the legislation despite strong criticism from the U.S and the European Union. #georgia #news

I don't believe her veto will accomplish anything. She is only stating her opposition to the bill, she cannot stop it from passing....

you are right. She can't do it because there are enough votes for this law in order to overcome her veto.

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili vetoed the law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence,” better known as the “law on foreign agents.” It is very interesting that the US citizen and openly sympathetic head of state announced in advance that she would not sign this law if it was adopted by parliament. Moreover, this is exactly the same law that has been in force in the United States since 1938. But apparently this is different...

The USA has a "Foreign Agents Act" where USA citizens must register when they are working for the interests of a foreign government. Ron DeSantis's press secretary Christina Pushaw had to register when she was making payments to Mikheil Saakashvili the President of Georgia from 2004 - 2013 after that the USA installed him as Mayor Govenor of Odessa in Ukraine. Just in time for the "Odessa Massacre" and the Maidan Coup. It's no wonder that Georgia imprisoned its former president Mikheil Saakashvili and now would like a law to prevent the USA and EU from staging a Coup in Georgia. Which you can see is underway.

the joining of georgia to nato and europe must be the most accepted future path, but this law would not only bring a dificult aproach of america and europe but also from russia, in the pathway of foreigne forces to be stopped from manipulating politicians and to corrupt politicians, maybe thats what georgia wants, above all the consent of the people must be adopted, as the close past with russia theres a lot of ways to make the politicians corrupted and adopting the laws russia wants, maybe if they clearly gived the sense to politicians to not join the corruption path that russia wants making priority to only accept investiments from recognized entities and to double check if they come from russian resources...
