THE GIVEN WORD (1962) and Brazil as a Polyphonic Country

THE GIVEN WORD is one of the great films of Brazilian cinema, released in 1962, based on the play of the same name by the Bahian novelist and playwright Dias Gomes. It is the only Brazilian film to win the Palme d'Or, the highest prize at the Cannes Film Festival in France. In "THE GIVEN WORD," different discourses blend and clash: the erudite and the popular, the sacred and the profane, progress and backwardness, rural and urban, order and chaos. It is an example of polyphony both in its form and its content.

Em minha viagem a Salvador visitei a igreja que serviu de cenário para esse filme, a "Igreja do Santíssimo Sacramento do Passo", uma igreja belíssima!
