Hand-pulled rickshaws were banned in Tamil Nadu in the early 70s by Dr. Kalaignar and the workers were given free cycle rickshaws to continue their livelihoods with dignity and respect.
This is the fundamental difference between the Dravidian movement and the Indian communist movement.
Now, in TN, cycle rickshaws too can hardly be seen on the streets. They have been replaced by auto-rickshaws.

I have travelled in these rickshaws since childhood. The rickshaw puller usually remains barefoot and during monsoon has to get drenched, even making way in knee deep water logged areas. Doing this everyday is better than running on a treadmill.

So casteism is also good as it is from older times right😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. It is government failure man to not provide them with good employment. Till 70s this used to exist even in tamil nadu but tn government banned this handpulled rickshaws and even provided free cycle rickshaws to those drivers. Now even cycle rickshaws too became almost extinct due to the advent of share autos

so are rickshaws more expensive than taxis? i feel like the labor involved should make it worth more. however youre in a rickshaw which is slow, has no air conditioning, and is being pulled by a man who probably smells from having been pulling a rickshaw all day.

Also, Bengal has the least caste system place compared to other parts of India. I have never seen caste based descimination in bengal. nobody asks what caste you belong to here in bengal.

That’s not true at all, I’ve seen videos where the pullers say they’re from Bihar and such places. Bro, why is West Bengal more backward than Delhi in this regard especially? This is something from India’s colonial past, and isn’t done anywhere else. It’s not something to be proud of or nostalgic for. It should be banned already! What was the use of having previous communist gov’ts if people still are not treated like basic humans?
