Shaft vs Belt - Tamiya TB04 vs Xray T4 Modified Class

  • Took a modified Tamiya TB04 (shaft) against our championship winning Xray T4 2018 (belt) to see which car is faster in our modified class (5.5T brushless motors). I made modifications to the TB04 suspension and lowered the cg which made the battle very interesting.
    Despite being relatively old, the TB04 is 2014 and Xray T4 is 2018, these two cars still posted the fastest laps of the day. Our Xray T4 has also won many races in 2021. As long as you understand physics and car setup you can still win with older cars.
    Watch till the end :)

    Sir, in my opinion, you are the best RC teacher here in CZcams. I enjoy all your videos. You explain things very clearly. I hope I can watch your daughter live in action in the future. She is so good!!! Congratulations and thank you for your inspiring videos.

    too much expectations with xray, users drive them to the limit on turns, thinking it can handle the bends easily. u got to slow down on every entry, you can be a late braker which is better. gear set up counts 😮a lot, all up to you guys. thanks for the vlog,
    enjoy your rc cars

    urc marvin raceway in northridge, calif. we got a big racetrack on the parking lot and we have almost all of the best brand of rc cars. in the end the stock ones are the winners hahahaha😂

    shaft n belt driven they are almost the same. as to handling it all depends on your set up on the track u are going to run. durability-shaft driven. performance they are the same. the driver knows how to adjust with the racetrack.

      The only downside to shaft is they are usually heavier and require proper shimming :)

    Hey dad, you need to get a Ta07 and challenge Porcha against the other Tamiyas 😊

      A few TA07s at our track. But I prefer the TB04 as it is my fastest car at the moment. Even faster than our Xray T4 :D

    Great video, thanks! Is the weight distribution between front and back the same on both cars?

    Another great video! What kind of Diff is in de TB-04? I've been trying to get a TBEvo-III close to TRF419 performance, but it doesn't come close, too much internal friction with the shaft & bevels it seems...

    • @rccartips
      @rccartips  Před 2 lety

      Just the standard gear diff that came with the TB04r. EVOII is nice but maybe to stiff as well. But that should have less friction than the TB04.

    You should use TT02 to compare that will be better.

    I have a full setup tt02. But I am not a very good driver unfortunately. I would like Porsha to drive it and see what my car can do. This will determine if my setup is good or bad. I also have an Xray RX8 converted to brushless, and a tamiya RM01. I will have to lend it too.

      Both are good cars. I prefer the TT01 over the TT02. My ranking would be TT01 > Sakura s64 > TT02

    Maybe ask your daughter to straighten her wrist when holding the tx. In longer races her wrist will hurt (if you end up doing longer finals/nitro)

    does the driver need to adjust for the torque steer on the TB04 ?

    • @rccartips
      @rccartips  Před 2 lety +1

      She felt no torque steer. The motor is positioned similar to a belt car.
