    So, basically the difference between Salamander 1 and Life Force are the graphics and some enemy sprites, besides the weapon select system. I'm used to the NES game and it seems like a mix of SL and LF elements.
    Great series!

      @figment1988 Před 5 lety +3

      Yes. Salamander was more space like while Life Force was more of a "what if a movie like Fantastic Voyage were a video game" due to the organic graphics

    The major difference between Salamander and Life Force are the design aesthetics. Salamander offered upgrades as drops, Life Force had the powerbar system a la Gradius. Salamander had area thematics, Life Force had areas named after parts inside a gigantic biomechanical defender. The NES Life Force had a very different look, and borrows elements from both (area thematics ala Salamander and Gradius powerbar a la Arcade Life Force), the only major difference is that there are no "buffer areas" from the Arcade version.
    Area 4 in Salamander was placed in Area 2 of Lifeforce NES; Areas 4 and 5 are completely new, and the Gradius throwback bosses are put in Area 5, instead of Area 6.

    @ValisHD Yes, the option called "Wait Control" can be set to "Off" to remove the slowdown that was present in the original arcade version (and has been faithfully re-created in the PS1/Saturn ports). Give it a try.

      Subseries perhaps, but overall, not even close. Gradius 3 arcade and Gradius 4 arcade can make your life, very, very miserable trying to beat them, especially 4 in later loops, where it is said to be harder than 3 in later loops.

    I've never beat salamander....the final eye supports would never die but I didnt have the missiles. The 4th end boss with 3 blue balls would always stay covered for ages too making it impossible to avoid all the masses of flying blue balls. Die there and your finished on the next level. I wonder if the difficulty was set on ultra on the machine. Still one of my favourite games though. Salamander 2 is just ridiculous.

    Guys, I can't find a video game that I have been looking for for more than 17 years. Please help me out.
    I vaguely remember some details but other details i know for sure (i'll specify on the list below)
    - 2d top down shoot em up.
    - Played it on Playstation 1 (i don't know if it was ported or was a port).
    - (not sure) Japanese (or japanese influenced) game.
    - (not sure) Sprite based.
    - The distinguishing feature of the game is that you have different kinds of bullets that you acquire throughout the game. You can switch between them on the fly. Every bullit kind has a powered up version except the starter bullet type. And at some point of the game (and that blew my mind at the time) you actually acquire the powered up version of the starter bullet type.
    - (not sure) Each boss is weak to the powered up version of each bullet type.
    PLEASE HELP ME FIND THIS!!!
