Love these cars.
So awesome to see you doing all of this step by step.
At this point I’m starting to think that nothing you’ve ever started working on will ever get finished 😂
The 65 beetle is close to being done. Just a few more details to work out. Stay tuned! =)
You have to restore parts, ordering new parts and waiting for them to arrive and don´t forget filming all this, editing and uploading ist also time consuming. And why should you hurry? It's supposed to be fun and don't forget that CT doesn't have a fully equipped professional workshop.
@@CTmoog It will be a historic event! 😂
Greetings from the UK. Can't wait to see the outcome of this one. Still looking forward to seeing the outcome of the Beetle. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! 👍 More Beetle updates next week.
What about replacing the bumpers to EURO-style and getting rid of the side-markers? I think this would suit the car better.
As long as the engine was FULL it can't rust....no air, no rust.
It seemed to be full...there was some rusty water that came from the valve cover area....
Hey CT, this is an excellent project, looking forward to more progress.
Thank you! =)
I like the look of the big bumpers. I think they give the car a longer profile. Also heard they add aerodynamic stability at speed. They're also practical for real-world driving.
Yes, you need to jump the battery cable to the small wire to engage the starter solenoid
good to know! thank you! =)
Keep on keeping on ct
Thanks buddy!
You're a brave, brave man. Best of luck.
Great job
Hi you need to jump the power across to the solenoid for the starter to throw out to engage the flywheel. Your method only works on clapper style starters with external solenoid.
Regards Bruno
Heard you on 5150 CT ! Thanks Straight Ahead ✌😎
Yes, I heard something about that! =)
As long as that was fresh ish water VW Darin will make that run again for sure 👍🏻
Yes, it was fresh river water. Darrin is a master builder for sure! =)
Thanks so much on the playlist tip, I missed so many of the videos on the yellow 914, thanks
No problem. You're going to want to follow this new 1976 RED 914. It's going to be a complete series. The Yellow 914 was just a few random videos over the last few years. Stay tuned!
Peace River Be with you!
Extreme example of why changing fluids on a new to you vehical is important
Thanks buddy! Yes, you never know what's hiding inside.
Hard to tell but it looked like you were putting power on the stater motor so it was spinning but you also have to put power to the bendix to kick the gear forward to engage the flywheel. Easier to deal with, with the motor out for sure
nailed it man
amazing the headlights still rotate. This is definitely a project.
Yes, I'm surprised anything works at all....it's a mess.. =)
Oh CT I love you mate, you're an inspiration. I was laughing so much when all that water came out of the engine and gearbox, thinking "that'll never start mate, no way!" Then later on you asked "Can you imagine trying to start that with all that water in it?" And I'm there shouting "No!" at the TV😂.
Mate you've got your work cut out for you, but you can do it! Now when I see a rusty wreck when I'm out and about, I think to myself "CT could have that on the road in 6 months".
I came to your channel for the beetle but now I'm staying for the '14. Bring it on mate we're getting there!
HAHA! Thanks man! I appreciate it. I love to hear that it makes you laugh. That puts a smile on my face! =)
@@CTmoog As long as you know I'm laughing WITH you mate, and not at you!
Sending love and luck from across the sea. xx
Water cooled!😂
Good job saludos desde Chile un abrazo
Looking forward to restoration.
Thank you! =)
Looking forward to more great content 😊
Thank you!
Love ya CT, but I really need you to finish a project for us. Hopefully it's the swamp dragon, but I'll take any of them you started since then.
Thanks buddy! =) The 65 Beetle is near completion. It's going to be awesome! =) Stay tuned
I had a 914 engine in my VW bus. It was still slow, but better than with the 1600. The purpose of the air pump was to introduce extra oxygen into the flame coming out of the head so it could burn up the unburned hydrocarbons. Mazda used an even wilder setup for the rotary.
interesting design for sure. They can be fast in the 914 if built correctly. Thank you!
I can’t decide which I love more, your Beetle work or you 914, either way you’re doing great!
I appreciate that! =)
Good luck, on this one!
Yes, I'm going to need it! Thanks man!
Hi CT, sitting in the backyard cooling off from painting the house. You zipped through most of that from experience but lucky the car wasn't submerged too long in water and not saltwater for sure. Even the motor turned over which was amazing being full of water before you drained it. I'm sure it would have been hydralocked before.
Oh man that sounds like work! =) Yes, it'm surprised it moved considering it was full of water for over a year....
49:30: This very moment, a name jumps up: Wolfsburg West! Good Luck!
Note to self...if I ever drop the motor remove the axles first!
yes, for sure! =)
New ct video instant like 😊
Awesome! Thank you! =)
very cool 2.0 Lets hope something is salvageable. those engines are the best.
Thanks Mike! We should be able to save some of it.
Mr CT, the engine and gear box were full of water ,so corrosion needs oxygen ,so strip the gearbox and engine and stop the corrosion regards , Rob.
Hopefully there will be some parts for the 65 beetle..
Yes that would be good! =)
Good.job😄👍👍👏sorry engin
I would like to see the beetle finished, Tony Ireland
That's the plan! =) Stay tuned.
Bring the bug back!
nice work, i'm sure its easier the more 914's you do
Thank you! Yes, I've learned a few things so far. =)
Hope Daytona got your back man 😂
Hello CT. Good project, needs your TLC. I think you should strip it totally and fix, like the VW Beatles. Then you'll be sure you've done a complete job.
You should name this car "Der U-Boat".
HAHA! Good idea! =)
I’m pretty sure the reason the starter is not engaging is it’s spinning in the wrong direction! Maybe battery polarity is incorrect? Reverse polarity will cause the dc starter to spin in the wrong direction
There WAS a chance at saving the engine and trans parts. Had you torn down both immediately upon opening them, to get to the surfaces before the air does. The clock ticks by faster and faster once those innards meet the air. If you took them both completely apart and got the parts in cleaning solution, then treated the questionable parts, you might have had a savable engine and trans. Within hours of opening them & draining the water, the rust that started, will root itself. I suggest you give them both to Darin to see what he can do with them.
Yes, hopefully Darrin can save this one before it's too late.
@@CTmoog or at least get some usable parts. I just got a 2.2L 911 engine for my 914, that’s been sitting for 22 years on its fly wheel wrapped it tarps & plastic. It looks like seaside air may have gotten into its cocoon. I can’t wait to get it apart, fine out what O bought, and how much more I’m going to spend making Rosie a 914/6 outlaw.
Bought my first 914 ('75 1.8) in 1977. Probably the best car I ever owned, certainly the most fun to drive. Love watching you work on these cars. Do you plan to sell this one or keep it when complete?
very cool. what color was it? I might keep it for a while and then sell it so I can buy more projects. =)
My 914 was red. When the time comes to sell I'd love to make an offer.@@CTmoog
clean up solenoid on the bench// get all the rust off the inside//sand paper the wire end clean from the solenoid
Mr CT the reason why there is no longer any paper element is so that the carburettor gets more air for less effort giving more torque regards Rob
Mr CT on all 914's do the calipers always drag and lock when being pushed around the work shop regards Rob
Did this model came with the fuel pump that you shows in the front middle hole section? My car had it in the back and it was vapor locking. The mechanic has to relocate the pump next to the fuel tank to prevent vapor locking again.
Yes, it was a bad location. Many of them had to be moved.
If you have it close to the tank it is a pusher pump and is usually about 5 lb psi. This one looks like a Facet type. If you have it close to the engine with a carb it is a puller and only needs about 1.5 -2 lb psi. Front pusher type more reliable as it is in a cooler place.
Hi CT, which do you prefer working on more, Karmann or the 914’s?
I like them both for different reasons. If I had to choose probably be the 914.
I was waiting for a baby gator to come slidin out !!
HAHA! That would have been awesome! =)
Hey Ct , how is it going brother? Those body panels look pretty good. The paint on the underside of the trunk is beautiful!!
Yes, it's not too bad. That's the OG paint under there. It looks sweet! Thanks 👍
Marvel mystery oil and transmission will clean out the cylinder and transmission case
good idea! =)
Anything can be saved, it'll just take a little more work and patience. Once you're done it'll probably be a nice little motor & transmission.
It looks like a 32/36 weber progressive carb.
I hope so. The old Weber carbs are nice !
Offcourse the starter wont engage the flywheel. You have to put power on the ”key” connector at the solenoid.
Was the car submerged in salt of fresh water? Might make a difference.
fresh water from a near by river.
Hey CT do you use a fan when your in your garage? Looks hot in there.
Yes, I just picked one up. It works great but you have turn it off when filming or will sound bad. Yes, it's hot! =)
Fill the crankcase with Marvel Mystery Oil
Good idea!
Put that baby on a diet of Marvel Mystery Oil and let ‘er soak. Maybe you can get it to turn over - channel your inner Mustie1!!!
Good idea. I will do that today! =) Mustie1 is the man! =)
I think I saw that Roache from before hes looking for you CT
🇦🇺please go back to the other projects and complete one restoration
Doctor Evil can rebuild the transmission. He is in the Cincinnati area so ship it to him
Hi CT
I recommend that you put a brand new engine in the 914. If you can restore the car to look brand new again.
Yes, we are going to do that. I have a new rebuilt 1.7 and we are working on a new 2.0. It's going to be really nice! =)
Didn´t know that the US-models were water cooled 😂
HAHA! It's limited edition! =)
🆒😎👍! Big job done!
Thanks buddy!
So much work , but you did a lot today CT .👍
Where does the River come from 😄
The bumpers are ugly and the side indicators too .
Can you get the original one ?
Yes, it was a hard days work for sure! The river is part of the wekiva river system I think. Yes, those bumpers are ugly. Yes, I'm going to back date them to the 1970 - 72 bumpers.
What happened to the yellow 914? You took the motor completely apart a year ago and I can’t find any videos after that? Maybe you can number your videos so we can watch in correct order, and because some 914 look the same maybe put a number or name the car with a sticker so on the video we can find the next video, love your channel
best way to find them is go to the playlist. Here is a link to the yellow 914 engine all rebuilt and first start.
czcams.com/video/U_A8Ya0soCg/video.html
40:28 you held that one for too long😂
U could fill engine and transmition with diesil and let it sit for a week then drain it pop in some oil and see if engine will turn over
I might try that. Good idea!
Well i watch other car channels and some of them used diesil .or maveral mystery oil or pv blaster but if your engines had that much water i think the diesil is your best bet
40:28 "she is wet bois,"
Not exactly the words you want to hear in that case we have here 😅😂
You going to put a small block LS in it?
That would be pretty cool! =)
Use engine and transmission from another 914 if you have another 73 or newer
Hi C T....I would love to see this car completely restored to like new con
dition
That's the plan!
@@CTmoog YAYYYY!!!!!!
Are the other 2 914’s at the farm?
I had three at the farm. I sold all of them a few months back to fund the 1965 Beetle project. I picked this one up last week.
A lot of work
all that water //hope you got that 1 for free
Yes, I got the car for free but had to pay for the title! =)
put oil in spark plug holes then rock it back
Savable just rebuild everything and replace some panels, piece of cake.
Great work dude. Wanna trade for a 1978 fiat 124 spider? Lol.
Thanks man! Hows the fiat? Did you get it on the road?
@@CTmoog working on the legals of that right now
I think your previous three 14's were better than " SWAMP MONSTER."
They may have needed more body work. But less engine and trany work.
They all had their own pros and cons. This one has some serious issues to fix.
Didn't you say the car was up underwater??
Yes, it was under 6' of water for a couple days....
WD40 will remove scuff marks where a vehicle touched your leaving that color car on yours.
Yikes!
Yes....it's pretty bad....
@22:32 funny sound
lol it was under water //hello--flush the motor and trans , -with diesel fuel
You could use it for yard art and not do anything to it.
you know that wd-40 is an absolutely horrible lubricant just as it is a horrible penetrating oil - right? You can buy stuff that does each job infinitely better.
These US bumpers were so ugly !
I know they are terrible...I'm going to use the early bumpers. They are much better.
"promosm" 🤭
