Baraboo is a town that's all about the circus - but it's known for another darker scandal that rocked the community in the 90's when kids were going missing and turning up mangled in unimaginable ways.

As someone who grew up with Thad, rode the bus with Joe and had 4 fingers broken by Joe intentionally as a kid, I am always going back to that time and having trauma from those days. Joe was always scary and myself, as well as friends always were scared of him. I hung out with him a lot and he was terrifying to be around. The night he broke my fingers, my friends and I were all at “sock hop” on a Friday night. It was the thing to do. Anyhow. Friends and I were sitting at the table and Joe walked up and sat at the table, he was about 5 years older, and immediately upon sitting down, took his balled fist and punched my hands 2 times. Joe is and was a piece of shit bully. I always was scared when he was around. So grateful Thad got away. Unfortunately. He now has permanent damage from all this shit.

My husband had to step up on many Bullies when he was younger, a teen in the 90s. Hearing this, I kept thinking, if Jared would have known that boy, he would have been ended...sorry you went through that and I wonder if you were on his list...thank god you were not further victimized by that creep.

Why would u keep hanging around someone like that? I’m not trying to lay judgement upon u I’m just not understanding what would make someone continue to hang around and be someone’s friend that was treating them like that. It’s just a blessing that u were never kidnapped and tortured like the other little boy was.

I'm glad the adults were mentioned. Altho briefly, where in the heck are the parents or any adults for that matter? I'm happy that the adult that was mentioned(the judge) was in a high enuff position to give the appropriate punishment to this 17yr old boy. WHERE ARE THE VICTIMS PARENTS? Did this Wisconsin town not have any adults living there? Or did they ask not to be named. What does it take for an adult to step in & step on these situations. They should shut Baraboo, Wisconsin DOWN. 😮..LOVE sent to those that are still stuck there😊❤❤❤

Joe Clark is in Waupun Wisconsin prison as well as the more recent infamous family killer Chris Watts. I lived in Baraboo at the time of his crimes. I heard the reason Joe Clark was home alone to do this was because his mom went to go help a family member with their young child for the weekend. When he murdered Chris, he had to sneak out. Therefore, a few sources speculate that had his mother not been around as often, or he wasn’t caught before moving out on his own, that he was well on his way to becoming a sexual

I know this is a couple years old but I just happened upon this looking for past local cases on CZcams. I am from Baraboo and my family knew both Joe Clark and Thad. You did a good job covering everything, I would only add that some people wonder where Joes parents were- he was friends with my mom and uncles and they said his parents would leave him home alone for extended periods of time. I’m not sure where they went but she said they were definitely neglegent and joe was raised in tough circumstances.
We as a community recently recognized Thad has never received compensation for the horrors he was put through, and he was truly a hero of a child to stop this monster as bravely as he did. Most people wouldn’t have been able to do what he did. Thad truly is our hero. You mention Joe’s list of potential targets and a cousin of mine was on the list as well. I couldn't wait to get out of the stupid neighborhood, I had to wait five years because my family was too poor to move. Thad is pretty brave and I hope he received counseling and has a happy life now away from Clark.

You mentioned how you wondered where the parent's were, and that would be it.
