It’s great you home school your kids but how do they socialize and make friends with kids they’re own age?
@Jazzy's World in most places you can still enroll your kids in sports activities and such at the local school.

I built a 16x32 farm house in 2012. I have lived in it for 10 years. It was the best idea I've ever had.
I'm happy your wife got the tub she wanted. I completely understand the need to have some sort of luxury.
I was bringing my horse trailer home from the shop after repair and saw a big roll off dumpster almost full of ridgid floor insulation from a downtown building getting renovated. I immediatly stopped and asked if I could have it and after permission I completely packed my trailer with it! Later my friend halped me to insulate my tackroom. I'm not to proud to use salvaged materials. Plus it was a great treasure find. :)
Great Job. Mine has the porch on the front. I got it in Oct 2017. Bought the land in 2013 for $7,000 added the septic $2,500 12 by 32 tiny house $6,400 finish work $5,372 solar $2,000, Yea no power bill:) I have been living in it good sense August. There is nothing like having a beautiful home Paid for.

Here in N Maine the amish builds these sheds very reasonable, i priced a 12 by 24 for 3600 with metal roof. Banks is modern day slavery. Downsizing is cool bankers do not approve this message:)
My daddy always said the same....you can't have too many outlets and ALWAYS put a window where you think you might want a door in the future.

Stop disrespecting this family. Stay at home parent is the toughest job there is! That's why my wife stayed at home the first 14 years of our marriage.:) We both work now and kids are grown but we are thinking of doing a tiny home so she can quit working. It's better to do it this way instead of a 30 year mortgage. Love the video and congrats on a great looking home!

Bought land in Alaska, had it paid off in 13 months. Here now to prep the build site as I’m only semi-retired, but will be 100% retired, NO WORK ever again in just over two years; by then my tiny house will be done.

It’s so hard on people to live anymore, I’m more about people then money. This is a good idea.
As a result of failed policy in gov. we are all being forced to deal with housing/living in traditional ways that our forefathers used. Home schooling is such a blessing for the children too. Glad you are doing this as it can be inspirational to many who are up against hard-times. Its more important for young families to be secure than wealthy. You obviously realized this factor.

its perfect for a retired long haul trucker that has spent his life on the road living in a 36 " to an 80 " sleeper 300 days a year .
For one it would seem spacious. It gets tight for a family of four, I'm sure.
Make sure you get fire ladders for the loft windows. Make a box inside at the sill . Then it can be thrown right out and climbed down. Practice it so if needed it isn't scary.
I know this is 5 years old but I'm loving this! And giving me the faith I need to do this!
You guys did a great job. I got a building similar to that to be my work shop. I got a furniture dealer to save the big sheets of flat packing styrofoam and when they got a load, they called me. I used a harbor freight hot knife to cut the sizes I needed and layered them to get 3 in in the walls and ceiling. Got a small used wall mount propane heater and a used mini split AC unit. It's great winter and Summer for Tennessee wether.
Also a good place to go when I get in the dog house with my wife. Lol
I would have had it sprayed with expandable closed cell foam. Worth the money!

Ron Green I think I may copy this if I can get financed to move to 30 acres it's basically a cleared pasture at the moment, with water and power at the street. I've debated looking for a camping toilet for the bathroom until I can pay cash to install a septic system. Idk what issues that will cause, I'll try to get a plan. I've thought about getting a sleeper sofa or futon that's convertible between bedroom and the living room. Right now I've been paying $1k for 650 sq ft apt complex that's not funny. I want land to raise food for my family. I've had previous experience with 4H and FFA before I was adopted as a teen. My parents didn't know that but will reap the benefits. :) Cattle, pigs and poultry.
There's always going to be people who could have done a better job, but you're the only one who could build it just the way you did, and it's yours. No one can take that away from you. More and more people are waking up to this lie that we have to borrow money our whole lives in order to get what we want. I'm glad to see you didn't buy into that nonsense. The writing is on the wall so when the economy collapses, you'll not only be prepared for it, you'll be comfortable as well.
With all the people posting snotty comments on this video, I'll throw mine in as well which is that I only wish there were more people like you and your family who had enough sense to do what you're doing.

Your words has come true in the face of this virus and lack of supplies. Not, many prepared to be sustainable or live independently from the system passed a month or two. Hopefully, this crisis will show people what is most important in life and our families be restored as we are forced together living a more simpler life without the competitive expensive trimmings.
No complaints about the insulation from me. My 100 year old house has no insulation in the walls at all. Great job on the cabin! Thanks for sharing.
We've been in a 39ft rv for nearly THREE YEARS now. (bought a place, put mom in the house), bought two sheds. Working it now. Thanks for the video
You've been really blessed to find things for your house but, if you need certain things in the future try your nearest habitat restore ,they have loads of building supplies for next to nothing.
Perfect and streamlined inside with sweet touches. People outside of cites call these tiny homes. In cities like New York, we call them apartments. They rent for $1600 a month. Yes, you live half the time outside and then have dinner parties of friends or chill out in your space at night. The bathroom and kitchen are awesome. Great job. I hope to buy some land just outside the city and do the same.
The styrofoam is extremely dangerous as a fire hazard. Sure an electrician did some of the wiring but that wiring is against the foam inside the wall. Any spark from the outlets or switches or even something just getting hot enough to be above the ignition temperature in that wall is immediately a major fire with a ton of smoke. It should be replaced with something more fire resistant as soon as you can.
If you used 3 inch sewage line , especially with 200 ft run to septic tank you had better keep using monthly "shock" treatments to your septic system and possibly use a weekly treatment additive treatment, and most importantly disapline your children on TP use or you could easily have a major clogging issue 4" is sooooo much nicer for less restriction. Luckily as I think you said it is a "straight" run to the tank so hopefully other than than the 2 or 3 elbows you will have getting under the house and to the toilet you you won't have pinch points, but if at all possible don't use sharp angle elbow fittings try to use sweeping , rounded elbow joints ( like electrical conduit ) to avoid clogging points.

Really impressive job; you guys worked together as a team, recycled things, stretched your dollars and made it happen! So happy for you; also I have to confess I think it's great that you are home schooling your children and exposing them so much to the outdoors. Public schools are a dangerous mess and they are indoctrinating children in so many bad ways; parents can and must do better for their children and home schooling is a great way to do that. Way to go guys!

Ya, I've had the Tuff Shed home idea rolling around in my mind for a while now. Put the majority of ones $$$ into a nice hunk of land, & the rest into a modest tiny shed home. **Have Nature be my main living area.

Smart people live debt free , not necessarily low income . I know people who buy mansions and yet have no furniture because they cant afford it .

Since you painted the tiny home, I would have used the same siding to enclose the porch and made closet/essential storage. Then I would have added a shed roof to create a porch, with twin French doors to let in more light and to open the house up more. Just my own thoughts💕🏡

Turned out good. You gave us some ideas since it won't be much longer before we dump the big city for a small homestead in the mountains. In the end you did things the way you and your family wanted and that's the important thing. 2 thumbs up

I love these shed to home stories! They are especially interesting when you see the family members involved. You did a great job with your place! Homeschooling is so great! You are raising your kids so well.
I know someone who was given a small house which had been completely gutted. I told her I would help finish it since being empty it would be pretty easy (being inside etc.) When she eventually was ready to begin I went there and she had completely packed the place with junk she bought at yard sales etc. There were only paths. I was like bs, I'm not dealing with all this crap. She said all "I" had to do was clear out one room at a time as if there was anywhere to put it. I refused and now she's angry that I let her down.

Have her to rent a storage unit for a couple of months until y’all finish the job the go through and put what she wants in house and sell and give away the rest. It’s a thin line between saving and hoarding 😅

Great job! I built million dollar homes for 24 years before I broke my back and got disabled but all the free stuff I got from the homeowners help me build a 20 by 14 foot man cave. Brand new shower and sink for free cause they didn't like the color. Much respect to you. Excellent job you've done.
James C sorry to hear about your injury. My uncle is a foreman for a very high-end firm and started out in construction which injured his back. Over the years he has amassed a little fortune of chandeliers import tiles rare Italian wine barrels, fixtures, linens and enough to build his own mansion and maybe two other because of greedy rich people who decided they didn’t like the color And wanted to change the theme at the last minute. One client changed their wine cellar 4xs and tore down the new 2500 sq ft guest home twice.
First of all I like saving and there is nothing wrong with getting stuff of of the road and save every penny counts when your trying to build your home I think you done a wonderful job kudos to you God bless you all

My wife and I have been looking for the perfect piece of property at the right price of course and we plan on doing the same thing. You did a great job for sure. The only thing I would have done differently is the insulation.

Kudos to your wife, having the vision to build for the futuro, I lived in a 2800 square feet full of junk, totally insane and every time I mention small home my wife just laugh, what a waste of resources, stuff that we don't use.

I bought a Tuff Shed on metal floor joists that was 24l x 16w x 20h with doors and windows for under $15K. It has 8' ceiling down stairs and 7 1/2" upstairs. It was erected in one day and roofed the next couple of days. A lot of living space.

We built off grid in Upstate NY. Bought property in 2004. The politics got so bad over the years. We sold in 2018 thankfully got out before covid hit. Would do it again, but differently. Sheds turned into homes is a great idea! Less taxes too if you build on a chasis or like a pole building. Great video!!

I will be buying and building out one of these when I find a plot of land a want. Luckily, I've been in the building industry for many years so I have the know how to do whatever I want to one of these, including adding on if I want to expand, etc. This just makes so much sense financially vs now outrageous home prices.

You’re an AWESOME family, and I praise you for teaching your boys what they need to know-both how to live off the land and the education they need for college if they so choose. Maybe a vocational school or trade that will help them continue to live their life this way and make a living.

peel the bark off logs you use for plant beds on the ground. less bugs/rot
Floor paint is an excellent idea, it can be redone when needed and rugs can be changed out.

most mobile homes are tied down using flat metal straps looped thru ground anchors, the straps go up the exterior wall, and over the roof rafters. Some anchor straps only go around the structure's metal chassis though. My tool shed is anchored to ground anchors that have a round eye loop in their ends, and then bolted to huge eye bolts that go through holes drilled thru the shed's bottom wall plate, and held there using a huge nut. Seems to work, 2 Hurricanes and hasn't blown away yet. You might wanna invest in ground anchors too, seeing how you're in Flo-rida. Nice result on your tiny home.
Lmao, I'm in an RV now shopping a small cabin. Every one I look at feels like a huge mansion. Thanks for your input. Never thought about the sizing difference for insulation etc.

early 80's laid off work a family member gave me a job painting their garage I scrapped and hand sanded the garage put two coats primer two coats paint that garage was good for 15 years in Wisconsin
