Whenever I watch The Addams Family, the only person I focus on is Carolyn Jones when she's in a scene. She's was beautiful and graceful, and I've seen her in other movies, but she was the perfect Morticia. I always felt that she really shined in The Addams Family! Another excellent video. Thanks Rick!

Hello Rick, we'll obviously never know how well the other actress may have been as Morticia Adams, but Carolyn Jones was perfect for the role. She also looked beautiful with the longer hair, rather than her normal short hair.
I agree with you. She never looked as good as when they had her fixed up as Morticia. Her preferred short hair was not really flattering to her face.
I can't see anyone else playing Mortisha other than Caroline Jones. Perfect casting. Great chemistry between her and John Astin was crucial to making the show work. Great video Rick!!

Thanks for the videos on the Addams Family. Growing up in the 60's, this was one of my favorite shows. As I have gotten older, a lot of the 60's TV shows are just timeless favorite memories. As I watched some of your videos this week on the Addams Family, I just didn't know much about Carolyn Jones. I watched a 5 part bio of her on youtube and am flatly amazed at her life on stage, films, and TV. She was the real deal at the time of casting. All the quirky roles she had already played made her a perfect fit. She has some incredible eyes. Gets me everytime. Thanks for connecting the dots on the show. As far as your other video on Carolyn being difficult, I would bet she would just add her ideas on making a scene work to the T. She was that good. I bet she was a perfectionist in her work. It shows. She had a reputation as a scene stealer on about anything she did. And again, she was that good.

Producer (and uncredited head writer) Nat Perrin was a lifelong friend of Groucho Marx and co-wrote the screenplay for DUCK SOUP. That's got to be one of his lines.
Carolyn was perfect in the role and her romance with John was so adorable. “Tish, you spoke French!!!
Carolyn Jones by all accounts was a class act and really liked interacting with fans in character. They couldn't of found a more perfect choice. I only wish the show could have gone a little longer.

Carolyn Jones was and shall always be Morticia Adams and no matter who else plays Morticia Adams. She made Morticia Adams come to life like no one else
I agree with others that Jones was absolutely perfect as Morticia. I don’t think anyone could have played the part better. Jones had an air of sophistication about her that made Morticia very credible as an Addams and as a wealthy woman.

Carolyn Jones IS Morticia Addams!!!!!!
Both actresses had the right look for the part, but Carolyn was lovely and brought an unexpected sweetness to the role. It paired nicely with John Astin's good-natured exuberance.
Keep your videos about the Addams Family coming. Unthinkable to have anyone else other than Carolyn Jones play Morticia.
Carolyn Jones was THE Morticia Addams . . . beautiful but demure, loving towards Gómez but a trifle mysterious, a breathy low voice, air of intelligence, the utmost in true courtesy and grace, a doting caring mother, a loving daughter and niece . . . Carolyn Jones easily did all that in the show to PERFECTION! (AND, being 10, 11, and 12 when the show was being aired, was I ever hot for Morticia! 😸)

She was the PERFECT woman to play morticia! In the 70s she did a guest spot as morticia on scooby doo, and even her voice is perfect lol
Hands down, Caroline Jones was the first and only choice for Morticia Addams. I was a very young child when the show was on, but I remember telling my mother that I wanted to look "just like" Morticia when I grew up---I thought that she was about the most beautiful woman ever, at least in my 11 year girl eyes. Even now, seeing her in the reruns, and being in my late 60's, I think she was gorgeous.

I cannot imagine anyone else playing Morticia Addams. Carolyn Jones nailed it. It's an interesting fact that she wasn't originally thought of when it came to playing the part as well as the fact Grandmama could have had Alice Pearce (AKA Gladys Kravitz in "Bewitched")!!

Carolyn Jones CREATED what Morticia Addams embodied! She made it HER OWN! CLASS, GORGEOUS BEAUTY, UNTOUCHABLE ELEGANCE, CHARM, GLAMOR, SOPHISTICATION all rolled into one PERFECT package. Whatever you do, don't even mention Angelica Huston's crappy "attempt" at playing the part of Morticia! (😆🤣😆🤣)

I don't see anyone else who could have been a better Morticia than Carolyn Jones she was both graceful and sexy at the same time.
I haven't seen that show since the 70s and just started rewatching it two days ago. I can't believe how great she is. An impeccable performance, every line, every look, every movement. Every time I watch an episode, I almost always watch every scene with her and John Astin twice (at least), just to catch what each one is doing. . It's literally an acting lesson watching those two together (and apart). I never knew how great she was until the other day. PS - Just found out: she was on Roots! She was Chuck Connor's wife on Roots. She was excellent in that, completely different. She was also completely different on "Batman". In the 1950s, she did a movie with Elvis....then one with Sinatra! The stories she could tell, huh? Oscar-nominated actress. That's why she got top billing.

Joan Huntington was too beautiful for the part even though the gorgeous Yvonne Decarlo the counterpart from the Munsters got the Lilly role. Carolyn Jones was perfect as was Jackie Coogan, Uncle Fester; his voice was beyond just right!
Also of course Aaron Spelling her husband who if rich and powerful then as he eventually became definitely would have forced the situation!
Finally it should be noted Carolyn had to have an audition. She was not a top star until after the show.

Hi Rick. Great video! I truly enjoyed it! Here's something that I think would make a great video to your Addams Family videos. If you have the information and resources, please consider comparing the two different electric model train layouts that were used in the 1964 through 1966 series. There are some videos, here on CZcams of the two different layouts. After all, a major component of the series was Gomez' obsessive hobby of colliding and blowing up his electric model trains! Please consider this if you will.

Caroline Jones had a major role in the famous film invasion of the bodysnatchers which clearly put her in science-fiction horror subject matter films, and it didn’t hurt that she was married to Aaron spelling. She obviously did not need the money but she was very well-connected and spelling was making a lot of TV series. So…
She was also in the Vincent Price film, House of Wax. So she has some horror film cred too :)
