Thank you so much for this! I have been knitting and crocheting for 55 years, but I never saw anything like this before. I tried it, and, like magic, my wrist stopped hurting! God bless you, this is a real game changer for me. Lol

Yes can you make a video about holding the tension in the right hand AND can you do a slow mo of chaining with this method?

I was thinking of doing a video of the way I crochet because I don’t do it like most videos that I’ve seen.
Yours is the closest to the way I crochet. Like you I learned to knit when I was about six or seven years old and I learned to crochet When I was 12 years old. I am now a senior citizen. A left-handed girl taught me how to crochet. I am right handed. My crocheting technique looks very similar to knitting and has served me well all these years. I think you for beginning with the fact that there is no one way to crochet. The way we hold the needle or the work should be most comfortable for us.

I learned to knit long before I learned to crochet and I crocheted this way for a long time. I call it my Knitting crochet style. I later learned to crochet using the knife grip and I find that quicker. When I am learning a new stitch or a complicated crochet pattern I find I switch back to my knitting crochet technique.

thank you for posting this!! i literally put your videos in slow motion to learn your way of holding your hook months ago, and it literally changed everything for me:,) i also notice i don’t worry about my tension as much cause it’s very consistent!

Right?! I am convinced that if I can get this down I'll have more consistent stitches, but I'm struggling with ”palming" the yarn in my right hand to keep the tension, I have just bought knitting needles because I think that learning to knit will help me wrap my head around this!

Thank you for this I have been crocheting since 9 now I'm in my thirties. I am also a continental knitter. My hands would go numb with the knife hold and trying to do the pencil grip wasn't really catching on for me plus I needed more speed to get projects done. This helped so much your massie hold❤❤ has saved my hands. God bless you and love to see more.❤❤❤❤

The way you crochet is so interesting! I think I'll try it just to give it whirl! It reminds me of "Throwing" in knitting. So you could call it the "Throwing Masse" haha!

I have been knitting since I was young. My grandma tried to teach me crochet first, but I just couldn't get the hang of it, so she gave that up and taught me to knit instead. I have tried learning crochet a few times since, but could never quite do it. Holding the yarn with my left hand just feels so wrong. This! This is type of thing I have been looking for! I am so excited to try this! Thank you so so much!

Having seen it from another person, I've been thinking of it in my head and searching it as "crocheting english style" from knitting but I guess Masse method or Masse hold works as well. Curious thing: apparently my grandmother used to hold the hook that way as well. I can't wait to try it, as I am a knitter mostly. So thank you so much for this tutorial!!!

I think the best name is “Crochet Throwing Style” similar to knitters I guess? Guess it’s not common enough so we have to give it a name! Goodluck with the crocheting :)

I have arthritis and I use the knife technique but my needle sets firmly to my palm. The needles were too long so I used a bolt cutter and shorted them to 4 inches. I crochet faster with less pain.

I just saw you had a video showing how you crochet! Your knitting approach to crochet! 🥰 I don’t know how it’s called, but I’ve seen the way of crocheting before. I think Jayda in Stitches’ mother in law crochets this way 🤔 Regardless, it’s beautiful and you produce gorgeous work! (I was watching your latest video, about Margot, but my internet went down so I haven’t finished it yet). I’m not changing how I crochet (pencil grip, left hand/finger tensio), but it’s really helpful to see other ways t do it. Who knows if I ever need to do color work in crochet and I end up using your method in the right hand for color A and color B in the left hand, as knitters do 🤯

  • @IExpectedBSJustNotThisMuchBS

Will have to try this. I can't get the right tension and so don't crochet and knit instead. Meanwhile, there are crochet patterns I'd like to use.

I had a major accident that ruined my left hand and fingers. I'm able to do knitting. Today I tried crocheting and the pain is too much in my fingers to hold it the way everyone else does. I know that I would be able to do it the Way You are. I just wish somebody could teach me right from Square One how to crochet using your technique. But I'm determined to try to figure this out. Thanks 😊.

Oh my god, thank you. I had a problem with index finger strain in crochet that doesnt exist when i knit. Problem solved, i'm off to the races.
Edit: people have been naming techniques after themselves forever, "Masse Method" rolls off the tongue. If you'd prefer, you could also call it the "English Method" because it mimics the English "throwing" style of knitting.
