Only one think needed to bring quality contents in kollywood first tell the lead actors to do different journer. If vijay or ajith try to thrash this unimaginary mass masala roles kollywood will bring got quality stuff.
If we look into mr chidambarams first movie the director of mangumel boys.
That was a low budjet movie and that was a blockbuster in mollywood name janeman. Thrashing lalettans marakkar (the big budjet movie)
If content is not good mallus don't watch movies. If this scenario comes in kollywood i can definetely say. The lead actors movie will win the race.
Mammotty into his 73 age recent years he is giving different journer. People tells mammokka will only such a character in tamil.
But in 2013 prithviraj sukumaran has done a gay character when he was at his 30 s. In march goat life is coming prithviraj movie.
His 14 years of waiting for that movie.if i can tell in dedication from kollywood.
Kamal sir and vikram only have the guts to do any types of roles.
And i can definetely say no lead actors have guts to do character done by mammotty in kadhal.
But we don't wonder because around 400+ movies has done by mammotty. And there is lots of characters classical and non classical roles.

Normal tamil people are loving manjummal boys and almost all tamilnadu theaters were housefull. Theaters are increasing the screening because of houseful. This shows people love movie other than typical templates. But a group of people were there, who stereotyped with mass, masala typical template movies.

And very few big actors in tamil r not afraid to experiment in new genres.. most of the big actors wants commercial movies just because they make fast money.. My grandma is a malayali. My dad always watches only Malayalam movies. I only remember him watching Malayalam films. He has always said that those cinemas don't have any masala factor for the sake of it. And they don't tailor the movie for the actor. All actors will do any films or side roles even if they are at the peak of their career. They don't want to maintain any image or take any story for the sake of maintaining the image.

One of the biggest ‘good’ for Malayalam film is the constrain on money. Since they know they can’t splurge on money they spend more time on good story, script, acting etc which doesn’t need money but need craft, innovation, improvisation, fresh idea, rooted to native etc.
Eg: the sets of Minnal Murali, 2018, Manjummal boys etc

    • @sajithks97
      @sajithks97 Před 5 měsíci +10

Yes. Another important point. Less money means, less break even point for producers to attain. That means, producers can try non mass movies because they don’t have the pressure of making 100 crores. Just few crores makes the producers happy. More investment means more pressure. And that’s when producers are forced to make mass commercial movies.

Animal is a path breaking attempt to show that even a A rated movie with no pleasing content (socially and politically) will do good with there is consistency in character arc.

    • @srinidhisridharan5416
      @srinidhisridharan5416 Před 5 měsíci +3

@@lamelizard-wq7yoSee, 880 crores BO is irrelevant if we purely speak of critical acclaim or how good a movie is. Many (not all, still not few) commercially successful films in Hollywood and Indian cinema were critically panned, meme-materials & vice versa. Moreover, AK's praise as a daring, IDGAF attempt doesn't necessarily make this a good movie to me. AK's Gangs of Wasseypur (n many other I might hv missed) already did that in Bollywood (A rated, raw, uncompromising, n successful). Even films like Raktha Charitra (Telugu, Tamil, Hindi), Satya (Hindi), Rocky (violent A film in Tamil), Vettri Maran's films (Viduthalai, Vadachennai), Iratta (n MANY other Malayalam films) were all IDGAF films. My problem with Animal movie was not just the adult or "socially immoral" content, but the lack of logic n relevance. This is not necessarily an underworld gang war, how do they have a million weapons? why are there no police in the town? (he publicly speaks that he is gonna kill people, all his staff clap for him??) Most of the violence and adult scenes (gun in a clg, underwear scene n unnecessary adult dialogues, hero smoking after he miraculously recovered n still alive?) didn't blend much into the story to make sense. The love track was absolutely cringeworthy. The fathr-son track didn't hv enough logic n emotional backstory, n after a point, didn't connect with me. If only the violence was backed with enough screenplay story n logic, the conflict isn't strong enough to hold r reason why n how these characters chose violence to THIS extent.

4)2018 ( related to floods and nominated in oscars )

      6) kannur squad ( investigation thriller )
      7) nanpakal nerathu mayakkam ( fest movie with a very unique making... Best movie but collection is less )
Yes last year a lot of flop movies were there... But they were not highly anticipated movies or with a great content.... Yes a lot of them was flop... But these 7 movies are enough....
In tamil the best were :
      1) por thozhil
      2) viduthalai
      3)mamannan
      4)good night
      5)jigardhanda
      6)chitha
      7) jailer
      8) leo
So a slight upper head was seen in tamil cinema... The only reason i mentioned leo is the love towards my thalapathy...
Still kollywood was 1 step ahead... I admit that.... But look the variety of movies that mollywood has.... 👍

Malayalam cinema encounters similar challenges. Despite a few recent consecutive hits, the landscape remains unchanged. OTT platforms and other budget-friendly youtube /other medias contribute to the industry’s woes. As a Malayalee working in Bangalore, I find that a family outing to a PVR theater costs around 1200-1500 rupees, while a year’s subscription to Netflix is 2400 rupees and Prime Video is 1500 rupees. Given the lack of quality content, why would we opt for movie theaters? Although Malayalam content is superior in terms of quality, the business side faces hurdles. Few major producers remain, and now stars and creators take on producer roles. Traditional theater owners/producers must innovate to survive

I think there is nothing to question about Tamil Cinema Industry. Tamil cinema has its own fine movies and strong points.
The Malayalam industry saw one of its worst runs at the box office last year, and even these movies didn’t receive critic support. Can’t say Malayalam cinema is doing right every time.
I guess bilingual movies can somehow help Malayalam movies to garner huge numbers at the box office while still maintaining their realistic storytelling. It's important for the industry to adapt and explore new avenues for growth.
Manjummel Boys have opened the door for huge possibilities for the Malayalam Industry, and I can’t wait to see what comes out of this integration between the Tamil and Malayalam industries ❤️❤️

Malayalam movies are stories that are basically feel good movies. You need them once in a while as they keep you in touch with reality. Tamil movies are a mixture of life, ups, downs, fantastical, comedy, and emotional. Remember, it’s the same tamil film with these mixture of stories that were pulling malayalam youngsters from early 90s to mass cinema. Vijay, Ajith,Surya, early 90s film were really a mass hit with the youngsters in Kerla. Afterwards, Siva Karthigeyan, Danush, Simbu continued the trend. There is definitely talent and good directors in Tamil it’s just that we are not giving more chances for tamil writers to create stories. Too many directors want to direct but don’t have good stories with them. They need to give respect to writers and start giving them more opportunity to them and good films will come along they way.

Even malayala cinema also used to go with the trends
Larger than life mass characters became a trend in malayalam in early 2000's, Shaji kailas and joshiy started the trend with movies like Narasimham, Praja
and everyone went behind that trend and towards the end of 2k's malayala cinema lost it's orginalily completely, after that from Traffic new wave of malayalam cinema kindof started and was carried on by some talented new directors
Even the same trends going on now after drishyam and memories became a hit some 20-30 thrillers came and finally we got saturated
    Same thing happened in 2023
One of worst yrs for malayalam movies when everyone went behind contentless natural movies which prevented ppl from going to theatres

Surya made so many path breaking movies, but audience were reluctant to change their view. Even Varanam Aayiram was not much accepted in Tamil Nadu as I remember but Kerala celebrated the movie. Then singam came and it became a big hit. Honestly speaking as an audience it’s nothing less than torture to sit through Hari or SIVA movies. And recently Subbaraj’s xx was awesome. But that too didn’t get the appreciation it deserves. Four movies which were exceptionally good, Surarai Potru, Mahaan, Sarpattai Parampara and Jai Bhim.
Tamil cinema is in a problem. Must address it. Then only it can change. We had very phase in Malayalam industry as well. Can’t judge entire industry by the performance of last two months.

Personalities like Kamal hassan, Siddharth, Aval movie director, Game over movie director , Sudha Kongara,Mysskin and other script writers who are true to the work can surely uplift Tamil Cinema by their effort...But above all
1.Support from audience for encouraging such films is must..Only then a producer will believe strongly on a new genre script and invest money to make it to the big screen..This will give confidence for new comers to take ample time for developing a perfect script and approach a producer without the need for any commercial masala compromise !!!
    2. So called big stars should be ready to experiment with script (Thats why very few actors like kamal hassan, Fahadh Fassil, Mammoty , siddharth, Vijay Sethupathi shine like a diamond even when there are no songs, fight and other masala stuff !!!)...Just go and see each person's filmography...u will be amazed by their script selection..
