Oliver Kite - Springtime in Salisbury and Lilac Time

Extremely rare footage taken from the long deleted video of Ollie’s only existing TV shows at Southern Television in the 1960’s. Completely captivating and charming short films of a master countryman, broadcaster, naturalist, writer and fisherman - a great influence on those fortunate to have met and worked with him. He (along with producer Ted Channell) were among the pioneers of today’s popular nature television programmes.

I was born there, and I lived there then. This is authentic and so sad that we require a bloody Welshman to appreciate my birthright. But nobody else did it, so good on you Oliver Kite.

The inhabitants of Salisbury were Welsh speakers. Salisbury is called Caersallog in Welsh and is to be found on maps of Great Britain in Welsh. I was born in Salisbury.

My treasured book Nymph fishing in Practice is still on the bookshelf about 60 years now. When I read it it gave me quite a massive head start on the so called fly fishers when the rules went 'fly only' on the A'n tributary of the Spey. I was always intrigued by Oliver Kites ability to as they say catch trout with a bare hook......... It was quite a few years later when I joined that exclusive club and I discussed that feat with Oliver Kite's friend Arthur Oglesby.......
I think Arthur Oglesby did not fish with a small heavy tube fly enough. The one he called a Bain's bullet...... That was very puzzeling to me but then again Oglesby did not need to try too hard due to the waters he and his friends fished. That is not top say he was brilliant as an angler & think that also applies to Oliver Kite.

Somebody who will remain nameless watched and copied Major Kite's programs and made alot of fame but he was'nt a gentleman.
