The Moto Razr Plus blew past the Z Flip 4 and every other flip phpone on the market once it launched with it's beautifully implemented 3.6 front cover screen that's fully functional, and it's even priced well at $999. The Motorola RAZR+ (AKA RAZR 40 Ultra), has plenty of power, the latest version of Android 13, pretty decent cameras, and a lot of great things going for it that make it a solid "buy" recommendation for me, and will be interesting to see how Samsung responds in a few weeks with the Z Flip 5. For now though, the Motorola Razr+ is the king of the flips phones in 2023!

It's easy to mix up. IPX8 is the norm. I was happy to see the dust resistance since that's an Achilles heel of a foldable.
I was just about to correct you. lol. Actually this phones IP52 rating it has pretty darn good dust resistance and minimal water resistance..... Good enough for light rain or droplets. While the Samsung flips have IPX8 for awesome water resistance and nothing for dust resistance.
Hi there! Great review and thank you! Congratulations for your videos! They’ve helped me in many times since you reviewed the Surface Duo 1. I think you are the right person to give me an honest point of view. I got the Razr plus but I have not even opened the box as I am currently still satisfied with my iPhone 13 mini, it is still compact and it has some years of backup yet. Also, I am being a little bit lazy to move again from iOS to Android. As you have the iPhone SE as one of your daily drivers, as well as the Razr Plus, would you recommend me to ditch the iPhone for the Razr? Many thanks again! 🙏
I don't care about water proofing anymore anyway. I had a phone that supposedly would survive three meters for thirty minutes. It didn't survive 8 inches for five minutes.

Glad to see the love on this phone. I got mine a couple weeks ago and coming from the ZFlip 3 it's been a huge upgrade. The convenience of only opening the phone when I really need to has me convinced that this is the only form factor I want in a phone going forward. Great review!

I agree , I love big screens, However we've learned to live with them and their annoyances at times. Can't tell you how many times I walk around with the phone in my hand because I have no where to put it. Especially in the summer time, when all I'm wearing are shorts. The functionality of a flip phone is the best form factor for today's world. The best of both worlds. I feel it's gonna head in this direction. I can't wait to be freed from the block of phone in my pants! I will rejoice when I can just put in in my short pockets and go.

Moto is really getting my attention with this RAZR+! I haven't owned a Moto phone since my precious Moto X Pure bit the dust😔.

I bought the RAZR 5g when it went on sale about a year ago figuring I would trade it in when this was released in the US. I got tired of waiting and bought a Samsung 23+. I did not realize how spoiled I got using the RAZR. It's so nice to not have to open a phone to use it I could answer texts and take pics and all kinds of things with this little phone in my little hand! The 23+ actually feels big and clunky, you actually have to think about having a big pocket or handbag to keep it in...what a pain! I have now traded my RAZR 5g and am getting this one on Thursday...truly cannot wait!!

I had had this phone for 3 weeks or so. I have been an avid Samsung customer for years. This phone is so much better than the flips that I've had in the past. The only thing I would say that is aggravating with this phone is the outside screen ambient light sensor. I'm glad I did not wait for the flip 5 because I don't think it will be as good as this phone. Unfortunately I think Samsung is getting caught in the iPhone (this is what u are going to get, king of the hill) lazy upgrades to their products.

Think that's a pretty sweet deal.I don't get the gripe about the cameras. These images you posted are actually more than decent. In my opinion as long as a phone camera is decent,I'm perfectly fine with it. If I want superb images , I pull out my film or digital camera. Infact I prefer it that way because it makes me grab my cameras.

Did the $5 a month AT&T deal. No tax in Oregon, can't beat $820 off. It is very pixel like which I love. Just a slight downgrade in camera and I am missing the call screen feature. All in all tho I love the novelty.

I'm on week 3 with my Black Motorola Razr plus from AT&T and I'm really loving the experience so far The only thing that would have been better is if AT&T would have had the Mengenta color. Thanks for the great content keep up the great work.

I'm impressed with what Moto is doing. I got the moto thank phone and I've never had a higher quality build phone before. The razor plus will be my next purchase.
Also, I don't think most people would notice the difference between the latest processor and the generation that this one has. A lot of the specs stuff is just a sales pitch.

Got my RAZR plus on the first day and I'm happy with it. Yeah, the hinge feels a little flimsy but it holds up and I kinda miss the chin but hey, gotta make space for such a nice and big screen. I hope they don't make another one for a few years though. I'd hate to be like the iPhone users having to update my phone yearly

Had this one pretty much as soon as it got released. Obviously only time will tell how I feel about it and how the durability holds up but so far I'm loving it more than any other phone I've had. I am kinda clumbsy and tend to drop my phones at least once or a couple more a month but with this and the nice amount I grip I get when using it folded (which I actually use almost as much as the main screen with the exception of videos and gaming) as most of my usage costists of music streaming as part of my job involves a lot of walking, texting and video calls which is actually pretty enjoyable when put in tent mode.
On a side note, I actually enjoy playing Bloons TD 6 on the cover screen. It's surprisingly very playable. Tested angry birds on it just for the heck of it and flinging them birds one handed with just my left thumb is probably more fun to me than it should be, considering that I got bored of playing these games on a regular candybar phone a decade ago.
Great review, thanks! One correction though (6:15): razr+ is IP52, so it has much more dust protection (but unfortunately much less water protection) than IPX8. You were probably thinking of Pixel Fold which is IPX8.

Love the phone. Had it since the day it came out. Got a little scratch on the hinge though. Hard to protect it. But love the phone.
Waiting for Samsung to show what they got next week.. but if they don't come up big with trade ins and if the front screen on the Flip 5 is limited in function then it'll be the Moto for this guy. Thank you for the great review
Apparently not all apps on Samsung flip 5 won't be as compatible on the small screen as the Motorola has.

Part of the reason the Razr Plus is my main phone is because of the stock experience. Wish Google would have gone with this form factor for their first foldable.
They made a fold not a flip
But also, I think Google is trying to push tablets, which is why they didn’t go for a flip.
And the next video would be a failure thumbnail for this device.
@@jacksonburger2081 price wise , a flip phone makes more sense than a foldable phone pixel 7A. $500... The tablet $500... Let's not talk about the 7 and 7 pro. Let's talk about the 8, Pixel 8 $700... Pixel 8 pro $900... The next move should it be a flip phone for 900 something... We all know how sometimes Google wants to go cheap and put cheap parts in an expensive phone. Aka Google pixel 5 and they tried to do the same with the foldable phone. If Google wanted to be cheap with a flip phone, the difference price wise wouldn't be as much as it is right now with the foldable and probably more people will buy the flip phone no matter the parts.
I just ordered BUT really worried about software updates. Did you get the July or even Junes update.
My biggest issue with it after a month is the wobbly hinge. I like to hold my phone like an old camcorder and the RAZR+ just doesn't hold it's position solidly like the Z Flip 4 does.

I'm loving my razr. Couldn't pass up the deal att offered at just 5 bucks a month with no trade in. I think Motorola did a better job this time than Samsung. I don't think Samsung will be offering a deal like att did with this phone either. So it's a win for me and I'm having no issues at all. Great video again.
I agree with you. I feel the base model of 128 gb will be at 1000 bucks alone, and the 256 will be much higher. So right there is a win win for Moto. I ordered mine through Moto website. Great deal 950 plus a free pair of Bose earbuds. My provider TMobile was not offering any deals.

Thanks for the video. As you said, it makes sense to compare it to Z Flip 4 as it is the latest available Z Flip yet. That being said, I would not go so far to suggest (as some people do, not you), Sanmsung would follow Motorola. The Z Flip 5's design is not an answer to RAZR+'s: just 2 months between their releases. The design is just the next logical evolotion of the outer screen.

I love my razor. I tried the flip but I traded it in because the battery life was horrible. With my Razor + I get a day and a half. I normally don't have to open the phone at all. I do have a question about the screen saver. On the black paper it was wrapped in says that you shouldn't use any screen savers on the internal screen. Was that not correct?
Yes since it already comes with a screen protector, if you put one on, it voids the warranty. The smaller screen does not have one, where in that case you do out one on. I feel it's great because since the main screen is not glass, it should never crack. I'm assuming.
What about liquid glass? For the back glass

I was gifted the Z flip 5 by my gf and love it but if theres one thing i wish this phone had that the moto has is the front screen going over the camers. I think that looks super cool and the option for 12GB of ram with the 512GB version

A clear rubberized vinyl wrap maybe a better option than a case. There is a local smartphone repair store in my city that subscribes to a service that allows them to print them out on a special printer that they send them. Literally, all they do is put your phone model into the computer and it gives the exact specifications. I had them install a clear rubberized vinyl screen protector on my OnePlus 11. It went on perfectly straight and it was the best solution for the curved glass. Furthermore, I also have them apply a rubberized vinyl back panel protector for the glass. You can have them applied either in a clear, colored or any pattern of your choice. Perhaps, that would be a better solution for the Motorola. All you would really have to do is fine acell phone store in your area that offers the service.

@@waltervega8730 I never even thought about such a thing until I called my local repair shop to get something done on my laptop and they told me about the screen protector printer. I had just purchased my OnePlus 11 and was struggling to find a decent protector for it. Apparently, you can find these printers in computer repair stores as well as cell phone shops. I had both of my laptop's done as well as both of my smartphones. Hopefully, something like this comes to your area soon.

The Razr 2020 was more comfortable in the hand and to open. But the front screen is much better.
I tried this and the edge+ in stores, this is very technically impressive, but other than the fold and second screen, its doing everything else similarly but worse... i'd say just determine how important the flip functionality is to you, and what you are willing to sacrifice. the major deal breaker for me was the camera and the IP rating.
Curious do you have 3 phones because you are a reviewer or does each have a specific purpose? I have 2 phones a business and a personal. Sometimes carry both. most of the time one or the other.
I always have two, regardless. But I have 3 for when I'm testing new phones or sometimes more than one new phone at once.

I love mine but it's so small and I feel fragile that I definitely had to get a case. Wish I didn't need one but with the case I already dropped it twice so yeah I need the case lol. I prefer the way it feels without the case but the case I have isn't that bulky so it's fine

I am also on T-mobile and love love this RAZR+ Suffice I had to get the Black one and wait for them to order the Magenta one as I needed a new phone my RAZR 202 started glitching while I was trying to wait. Love they have the dual camera, hope they update this as LG G8 had MultiCam that used all three cameras would be great. Love the fact you can look at photos with it folded 90degrees and can scroll swipe, but found that only works with most recent pics taken. I would hope they update this to be able to look at any and all photos direct from the photo app would be able to use this mode. Suffice currently it only works if you go into camera and then click the last photo or video and you can scroll. And another is 512gb version would be great. Mind you these are my only "wants" not even a gripe. The phone is great and takes great photos and videos...and great speakers and call quality. Always having the fastest and newest processor is no biggie for everyday use and even watching videos and editing videos which I have done on this is not an issue. All the specs do not mean a thing in the grande scheme of things. Being able to do so much on the outer screen is great. Another option they have added is to have the choice either when closing the phone to have it hang up or you can have it set to continue the call folded which is great! I personally love the password scramble that changes each time so if anyone sees you put in your code they cannot remember the patter since it changes each time you sign in. I like the Viva Magenta but wish they had also released the Blue as well. Honestly I like the Viva Magenta but would have preferred the blue which seems you can only get online but "unlocked" on their site.

my Razr+ had a screen protector already on it.
Motorola flagships are decent phones the I don't have a razor but it's a played with it at the T-Mobile store and it's a good phone. I hope they make a fold style phone with a smart stylus and I will definitely buy.

@@drumr04 Lack of case options is really the only thing I'm worried about. Z flip 4 had a plethora of case options and so did the s23 ultra I'm replacing.
@@jaquezcarter7018 yeah agreed. I ordered a China special case from Amazon so I'll see how well it works whenever it shows up. I'm disappointed AT&T advertised a Zagg brand case that is not stocked and doesn't appear to be made yet. I can't find it on Zagg's website

To me the front cover screen is way to glossy and shines a lot. Think the Samsung Z Flip 5 is better even though it has a tad smaller cover screen. Can't make make up my mind on which one to buy🤷🏻♀️
When I got mine, I bit the bullet and bought the 50$ tech21 Evo clear case from T-Mobile's store.
I could have but I'm not a fan of clear cases, especially not for $50
