Hey, unfortunately I don't know how to help specifically with your problem, since every PC has its idiosyncrasies. I noticed today, however, that this video might be more helpful if you guys also have access to the other two in this 3-part series, so I put a link to the playlist in the description. Video #1 might help you to set up the connection from your graphics card to your receiver correctly.
When im in the manager for the sound, if i highlight my realtek device, which is my sound output, the configure button is greyed out. It hasn't always been like that. Do you have any idea why it is greyed and unusable?
Afraid not. :-( Never experienced that! But then, I've been using home thatre AVRs over HDMI since around 2010, so not sure about Realtek devices. Sorry, wish I could help!

Well thats the common task. But how to change the layout because Windows mistakenly uses c 5 and 6 for rear and 7 and 8 for sides. Which is stupid and a nightmare for switching back and forth between 5.1 and 7.1
Actually, Linux does the same thing. It seems like when you go from 5.1 to 7.1, the two "extra" channels are not the sides, but the rears. I think it's stupid, too. I want the rears to be the rears, no matter if I'm running a 5.1 or 7.1 setup. But it seems like that's what we're saddled with...
@@mr.matt.eastwood Yeah, that seem to belong to the computer math type of "idea" that 7.1 simply extends 5.1 for 2 "more" channels, so they appear in order on the end of 5.1 +2 which is a misunderstanding since 7.1 puts 2 more channels "in between" not on the end of the surround room. Which would all be fine for me if there is any work around before we hit the output stage. Even if you run exclusive professional audio hardware like I do here, you rarely can work around this. Because all other drivers on the end of the chain assume that the channels coming from Windows are in the correct order. So it becomes hard to mix professional and home setup for both 5.1 and 7.1 in one box. For Linux you have more options to work around this with JACK audio. Which you can use on Windows too, but its harder to setup since it comes from Linux world. Too bad that it becomes so less of love and momentum for cross platform usage since it is such a powerful open source tool to "wire" and "channel" audio in a box the way you need it.
I have everything hooked up via earc, with an additional hdmi cable connected from my PC to 7.1 soundbar. The trouble is, every time my display turns off, the sound setting in windows keeps reverting back to stereo and have to select 7.1 again. Is there a way to make this setting save?
i'm struggling a bit. have dolby atmos setup and choosing 7.1 or dolby atmos sound great with the surround when gaming, but front speaker (where my gun outputs) are a bit muffled. say there is a huge explostion to my left, i hear it insanely crisp, but when i turn to the sound, it kind of dissappears. i'm using hwq90r soundbar with rear speakers. i am trying every setting, and one that seem to work is to set it to stereo, and then set my soundbar to surround which makes it upmix the sound. but i think that's not ideal, i like to have my soundbar set to standard, so that it always use the native signal it is fed. is there a neutral windows setting? so that it just uses whatever the game has? the game i tried was hell let loose with the explotions and aircrafts etc i can notice it very well, and it is a bit distracting. also in doom eternal, the gun volume is just low and weak, vs everything around. the surround effects are insanely immersive, but the gun sounds are just not on the same level. if i chose stereo, then i get equal sound on the environment and gun, which mean i can up the volume and also the guns sound much better. if i set it to surround, my soundbar upmixes to 7.1 but again.. i feel that just creates a mess of sounds. the windows 7.1 or dolby atmos setting works the best, but then the very front center speaker in my soundbar muffles a bit.. has anyone experienced something like this, and is there a definit answer to how to set the windows and soundbar settings?
on configuration panel find the option "change center/subwoofer" or something like that. i'm using the Realtek Driver so idk how ir works with the native sound interface
Hi there, you're not the only one, and it seems to be an issue related to Samsung soundbars since a while. Have you found a solution to this ? To me Atmos keeps it all in Stereo, only 7.1 works correctly with each speaker really independant to each other. in Atmos it looks like everything is an upmix from stereo whatever I try in the settings along with Dolby Access app.

Hey man! That's odd. Your home theater system is definitely 7.1, right? Shot in the dark... Perhaps your receiver has some setting where you can define how it communicates with other devices. Your PC might think it's only 5.1 capable.
All my PCs in the past 15 or so years, be it laptop or desktop, have had Nvidia graphics cards. I always plugged the HDMI cable into those cards and had all drivers installed and it worked out of the box. Are you plugging the HDMI cable into your graphics card? or is it an on-board HDMI? If that's the case, that might be the problem. I have no experience with that though.

I'm pretty sure it is like that, because as far as i'm aware, most, if not all headphones get advertised as "7.1, but it's virtual. That's why Windows does not display it. Hope i made things clear.
