Well a lot of people like to get technical and be like " he's not actually drawing a face it's just light and shadow making it appear like it's a face." 🙄 But yes you're definitely on tract with it just popping out of nowhere, art and artist can really be interesting.
Charcoal is one of my favorite mediums because the human brain is so good at filling in the gaps and gestural drawings like this look even better than realistic ones imo because it involves your own imagination as the viewer
@@jmalone2758 there's no editing! This is a fast and simple shading technique that he is using. There are no defining lines or outlines, only shadows. Me and my drawing friends used to have speed contest and we used shading techniques to beat each other!

He's sees the world logically. I can tell.He breaks down a complicated task by doing the most expedient thing. For instance, he is taking advantage of empty spaces, not just his strokes.
It looked like he did the bare minimum yet the amount of detail he was able to achieve from a couple of strokes is amazing! Some real talent right there

We would never say the same thing about being able to write, people just mystify drawing too much.
I loved the face but the slashes over the nose. Well, the face comes out with such strength that the diagonal shadows drift into the background so that you forget they're there. Very manly. When he did the eyes I thought those aren't eyes. Those look too square, but he actually made the eyes, eye lids and eyebrows at the same time. Amazing talent!
I envy the ppl that can do this. Its a special talent. Not every artist or portrait artist can make a face come alive with a simple stroke. Did you notice that when he put shadow under bottom lip the eyes suddenly subtly changed and 'came alive'?.
Interwstin, because i tbhink tbis would be SO much easier than a paint brush, pen or pencil. Ive never seen this tool beforew but it uas instantly made me more interested in art, i actually think i would be able to use it.
I don’t know if you just make it look incredibly easy or if it really is so much more straightforward than I’ve ever thought to try & make it (with construction & all of that, & trying to make everything perfect), but this is very inspiring & makes me want to try much more rapid-fire, abstracted portraiture forms like this, so greatly appreciated. I just got my first Stabilo water-soluble pencil & also recently tried shaving & brush-applying powdered graphite or charcoal for the first time recently, so this kind of inspiration is just what I need to try branching out more in directions of mark-making I’ve never really experimented with (primarily painting, historically).
He just made it look easy. This is years of practice man. Just like watching some one solo on guitar. They make it look easy but it is not easy by any means.
This is my absolute favorite channel on YT about artist work. If someone were to hear me from the other room they would swear I was watching a fireworks video .."ohhhhhh! Ewweee, ahhhhhh 🧨🎇🎆
Good art is suggestive. Especially graphite and charcoal. Not to take away from this dude's skills and talent, but having done so myself, Im convinced almost anyone can learn to do this. To all you people completely blown away. New art students do these drawings 10++ times a day and in a couple months you 'get it.'

I've never seen someone draw a charcoal drawing with a palette knife. That's so cool.
There is a soft pad on the front of the palette knife. Search for Sofft.
He's using a Pan Pastel with a Soft Tool. It has a little booty on it that you load up with the pigment.
