      It was not supposed to be sitting in front of three miles of mines as drones and glide bombs fly unabated.

Actually, there is a lack of Leopards still on the ground and many are earlier versions of this superb weapon.
      By contrast, Russian tank losses now exceeds 3,000, mostly due to anti tank weaponry, but also tank crew incompetence, poor training. Driving a tank is quite different to a tractor.

  • @kenl-w9638
    @kenl-w9638 Před 12 dny +5

    It isn't all that effective pushing the airfields another 15 minutes flying time further away from the border. Forcing the basing airfields into Russia proper might make them use a more circuitous route and limit the number of bombs carried by each aircraft as the necessary fuel load increases. This is a slightly better outcome as it increases op tempo and maintenance needs / pilot fatigue but they are still untouchable within Russian airspace by Allied systems with the current ROE.
    The only way to stop the use of glide bombs is F16's loaded with long range air to air missiles like Phonix and Meteor with authorisation to take out threat aircraft before they reach dropping range. A Patriot control module and radar might be able to LINK16 the firing solution data to a CAP within Ukrainian airspace and out of range of Russian AA/AD and SHORAD if that has been developed.
    Alternatively, configuring AMRAAM and equivalent medium range 75-125 mile missiles to be launched by NSAMS against the bombs/bombers might work at keeping them at bay. Either way an effective no-fly zone above 1991 Ukrainian lands is needed whether it be by the EU air forces or Ukrainian operated systems.
    As to UAV strike packages, they need to be accompanied by either F16's in a Wild Weasel role or drones/HARM missiles that can be controlled or programmed to do SAED/DEAD duty. And a bunch of drones/missiles that can broadcast spoofing radar returns would be a good idea as well.
    But then again, what does a long out of uniform sapper know about current equipment and tactics.
    Edit. I should have waited until the end of the podcast, some of my points were covered already 😜

    The North Atlantic Alliance bears direct responsibility for the Ukrainian crisis, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Wang Wenbin told a news briefing.
    "NATO bears indisputable responsibility for this crisis. The alliance should give thought to its role, stop shifting the blame and effectively take practical action for the political settlement of the crisis," he said.
    Wang added that China was not providing weapons to the conflicting parties and strictly controlled dual-use goods, including the export of drones.
    He said that "more than 60% of the weapons components and dual-use items imported by Russia come from the United States and Western countries." He emphasized that Russia and China maintained normal and open trading and economic cooperation.
    NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg earlier said that 90% of microelectronics imported by Russia in 2023 came from China and that China was allegedly providing Russia with satellite imagery.

    One thing that can be said about Ukrainians -- they are very resourceful. If the turtle shell tanks seems to be working for the Russians, Ukraine will adapt the same idea and use it to a better effect. The "dragons- teeth" defense that Russia started using got quite a lot of ridicule from a lot of people, but they seem to be working, and Ukraine is now using the same idea but they use it to better effect, plus, half of the allocated funds don't go into their personal Bank accounts like it does with Russian oligarchs. So don't let pride be your downfall, Ukraine, use whatever method is appropriate for the job in this very uncalled for war with Russia.

It's known drones are defining the new battlefield combat environment. Ukraine needs operational Abrams. They are compelled to find ways to fix the problem! I'd guess Ukrainian engineers would be contracted outside the $61 Billion program to find ways to protect Abrams tanks with the participation of the U.S. & NATO countries. Also, be sure to include Sweden.
