    The SL 400 is a fantastic car. Very fast, luxurious, plenty of room inside, no stupid rear seats that no one can sit in and very good boot space with the roof up. Mine has averaged 31mpg over 18 months and I certainly push it where possible. Certainly a head Turner.

      Yes I think you need to own one to realise just what a special car this is. They are understated, not to in your face, but super luxury and excellent performance. Thumbs up from me for sure.

    I keep coming back to the SL400 pre/post-facelift. Looks great. Comfortable. Luxurious. Good quality. Sporty. Actually quite a fast accelerating car with good torque. Sounds really awesome, surprisingly so for a twin-turbo. Quite versatile/practical (hard-top convertible). No useless rear seats. And these can be surprisingly economical. Only bad point is limited boot size, but big enough for a long weekend away for two, which I think is adequate for this type of car. When you consider alternatives, you may get more power and more of a driver's car, but you will pay more or it will be a lot older, the economy will be much worse, maintenance costs will almost certainly be higher, and it won't be a hard-top convertible. Overall, these offer a package that's very very hard to better. A car you buy with your heart and also your head.

      Yes I really rate the car, it has a lot to offer for the money in my opinion. I’m not a car critic as such I just say what I personally think about the car and this definitely gets a thumbs up from me.

    You're a bit off on your MPG's brother. The SL400 is rated at 20 City/27 Hwy 23 MPG Combined. Still very good, but not 37 MPG as you mentioned.

    This age with facelift front will have the increased power 362 0r 367BHP rather than the earlier SL400 with circa 333BHP

      I have the same model and year and it’s 367bhp. The pre facelift was 333bhp. Needs to do more homework beforehand. However I agree with most other comments.

    Looking at values today versus your estimate for the car they appear higher now for a 16 facelift car. Is that the case?

    What do u think about which is better hard top or soft top?? Ive not had convertable but im looking ffor used SL now.

    • @syc2j
      @syc2j  Před 4 lety

      I personally think the hard top. As you get 2-in-1. A sports coupe and cabriolet, especially with the glass pan roof as an option.

    • @nigel.w
      @nigel.w Před 3 lety

      Also, while it may depend where you live, but in the UK, where most people don't garage their cars overnight, even if they have a garage, insurance should be cheaper with a hard-top convertible.
      Of course, most SL buyers will have off-street parking, but you may be surprised how many SLs you see parked on the streets of London at night, because the closer you get to the centre, the fewer people have off-street parking. And I think you would pay significantly more for insurance if you have a comparable soft top.
      Of course, the biggest market for cars like this is the US, and most Americans have and use garages. But for the UK market, I think it's a shame that the new SL is going to have a soft top.
