    It is a time of legend.
    The Galaxy is in flames. The Emperor's glorious vision for Humanity is in ruins. His most stalwart son, Rogal Dorn, has turned from his father's light and embraced the Ruinous Powers.
    His armies, the mighty and redoubtable Space Marines, are locked in a brutal civil war. Once, these ultimate warriors fought side by side as brothers, protecting the galaxy and bringing Mankind back into the Emperor's light. Now they are divided.
    Some remain loyal to the Emperor, whilst others have sided with the Arch-Betrayer. Pre-eminent amongst them, the leaders of their thousands-strong Legions are the Primarchs. Magnificent, superhuman beings, they are the crowning achievement of the Emperor's genetic science. Thrust into battle against one another, victory is uncertain for either side.
    Worlds are burning. At Isstvan V, Dorn dealt a vicious blow and three loyal Legion were all but destroyed. War was begun, a conflict that will engulf all Mankind in fire. Treachery and betrayal have usurped honour and nobility. Assassins lurk in every shadow. Armies are gathering. All must choose a side or die.
    Dorn musters his armada, Terra itself the object of his wrath. Seated upon the Golden Throne, the Emperor awaits for his wayward son to return. But His true enemy is Chaos, a primordial force that seeks to enslave Mankind to its capricious whims.
    The Age of Knowledge and enlightenment has ended. The Age of Darkness has begun.

    Also, the reason the Death Guard didn't play much of a part in the Dornian Heresy is because they got temporarily trapped in the web way and ended up engaging in a long term Siege against Commorragh and by the time they got out and when the last death guard Marine left out the front door, they had weakened the dark city to such an extent that, Slaanesh was able to break through the weakend walls of the Dark City. And when I say Slaanesh, i don't mean her Army of demonettes, I mean the god herself ripped through the walls and ate up the Dark City. So no more Dark Eldar.

    The Blood Angels falling to Nurgle gives me an image of mosquitos.
    Blood-sucking parasites that are considered some of the deadliest creatures on earth due to the sheer amount of deadly diseases they spread.

    I unironically think that the Ultrasmurfs, in some ways, are more interesting in this version.
    To start off, they secede from the Imperium not because they want to, but rather because Dorn was like "Hey, big E thinks you're gonna leave him and has declared you a traitor and is gonna kill you, let us help you survive" and Girlyman was like "Shit. Alright" and then unwittingly turned traitor. He didn't participate in anything more than Istvan 5 though cause Dorn knew that if Roboto got to Terra, he would immediately figure out Dorn's ruse and then his heresy would be over, so he had Gorillaman stay in Ultramar.
    Later on after the heresy Robutté finds out the truth and gets his signature UltraDepression™, calls out to Terra to try and set things right, travel to a 'neutral' location for a meeting with Terra, only for the meeting to be revealed as an ambush set up by the Alpha Legion and for him to get imprisoned by in a stasis field and placed in front of the thronebound Big E like a trophy.
    Ultramarines now are like proper good guys fighting against the Imperium, slowly liberating worlds, trying to get to Terra to free their Primarch.

    And sisters' sons | shall kinship stain;
    Hard is it on earth, | with mighty whoredom;

    As much as I love fan theories and alternate histories with 40k, all of the “Alternate Heresy” fan theories I’ve come across have a similar crippling flaw: there is no believable way to make Vulkan fall to Chaos without it coming off as incredibly contrived. I can believe Lorgar staying loyal if a few things were different. I can believe Leman Russ falling to Chaos if a few things were different. To make Vulkan fall to Chaos, you have to change who Vulkan is to such an extent that we’re no longer dealing with the same character.

    • @henrypaleveda7760
      @henrypaleveda7760 Před rokem +21

      perhaps through empathy. Have him try to be an arbiter between the defecting vulkan and the still loyal brothers. Then you see them fight and the salamanders engaging both parties. You get a new itsvan but a vulkan unsupported. From here you could have vulkan's fall be similar to pertuabo.

    • @stingray-sw3jj
      @stingray-sw3jj Před rokem +22

      I could see him just completely losing his mind and going with Nurgle with a bit of Perterabo's problem of getting ground down and overworked. Like Vulkan has to go and purge all these worlds that have been destroyed by Nurgle plagues and he just has to flamethrower all these civilians that he would do anything to protect. Then when he sent to burndown what was his home world he snaps and let's the Nurgle take him and his legion in exchange for all the civilians.

      I still believe the Roboutian Heresy handled it best by having Vulkan wind up with the drakes of Nocturne rather than the humans to explain how his upbringing with beasts and proven that he's invincible against them made him have such a massive superiority complex to humans. Really goes into nature v nurture territory which I really like. Vulkan was never really built up as inherently benevolent from what I recall that goodness came from the people that raised him up to have those good qualities.

He'd just say, "fuck this" to the Big E, similar vibes to Robot Gorrilaman in this AU, and be declared a Traitor. If they ever did a TTS on the Dornian heresy. It would have to be centered around Orikin, the time traveling Necron chronomancer.
      It should be done by Orikin who, describes a parrel timeline. How he knows this is a doozy.
      Basically, there is a timeline where Orikin ascends to C'tan status, becoming Orikan the Timekeeper. He basically talks to a bunch of alternate timeline Orikins.
      BigE is thinking about what he would have had to do to keep Horus loyal. As he is doing that, he finds that, somehow, Orikin put a note that somehow, perfectly reads like a conversation. So for example.
      This is likely due to time-travel shenagains.
      After the story, he tacks on that big E should check the underhives of Terra due to a "Bug problem", claiming that, from his predictions, if he does this the galaxy won't get completely eaten by tryanids.
      Howevery, Trayzin the Infinte takes this as an opprutunity to steal on of big E's toes. Which becomes a grand peice in his collection.
      Other timeslines Orikan wittnessed include.
      Tryanids Eat everything.
      The Silent king never left.
      The Tau enter the Imperium.
      Cawl become the Head of the Mechanius.
      The Orks never existed.
      The Covenant replaces the Tau.
      Sigmar Saves the Imperium.
      Gotrek Kills Every Named Character. (This is started after an Imperial Inquisitor shoots Felix)
      And

    Most plausible situation is that the 'Nids show up early, and in full force, so:
    -Lorgar's heresy isn't found, because he accidentally draws the 'Nids in, and they eat his whole cult. Lorgar seeks vengeance.
    -Horus is diverted to fight the hive fleets, and leads the effort.
    -Russ falls to Khorne while defending Fenris, as the priests are overrun before he can save them.
    -REDACTED
    -Ferrus Manus sides with half the Mechanicus, who claim the Emperor will continue drawing in 'Nids as long as he's alive.
    -Fulgrim gets turned off on biological perfection when he realizes it would make him like the 'Nids.
    -Vulcan is corrupted by a Hive Fleet mental attack, and loses his sanity.
    -Dorn is killed buying time for the Imperium.
    -Guilliman blames himself and the Emperor for Dorn's death, and declares a new Imperium that will use any means to win.
    -Magnus loses most of his Legion to the Shadow in the Warp, thus also losing his incentive to deal with Chaos.
    -Sanguinius is unnerved by the failure of his visions, and is tricked into believing that Chaos can be a force that protects humanity, replacing Horus as the heresy leader.
    -Lion El'Jonson resorts to using dangerous ancient weaponry to win his battles, and when questioned, joins Sanguinius.
    -Perturabo proves highly adept at fighting against the 'Nids, feeding his ego enough for him to remain loyal. Plus, Dorn be dead.
    -Mortarion comes to hate everything about the 'Nids, and is too focused on them to fight others.
    -Jaghatai Khan comes to resent the Emperor's defensive strategy, and joins Sanguinius.
    -Curze realizes his visions were wrong, and with Nostramo devoured, devouts himself to trying to keep the enemies of the Imperium paralyzed with fear while the fighting continues elsewhere.
    -Angron is killed in battle, the time he bought barely saving the Alpha Legion.
    -REDACTED
    -Alpharius proves to be the only one who can reliably find, and destroy, Genestealer cults, which he chooses to focus on above all else.
    -Corax probably wouldn't have been found before all this happened, so I can't help but imagine that he would hide and wait to see who to join.
    Something like that, anyway.

      Then later in the game Malcador claims that the Emporer has changed something. They've played the same game a hundred times and it's always the same. But the Emporer always ends the game before the final moves are made. It's unclear if he chose not to tell Malcador or if he actually didn't know for sure how it would end.

One might presume that he is unsure if Sanguinius will overcome his temptations and arrive in time to choose to offer himself up to be the sacrifice. If the Blood Angels were going to be a chaos legion dedicated to Nurgle they could have made them act more like zombies than vampires. The Alpha Legion should have made the core of the Inquisition. That was a massive potential that they dropped the ball on. The Sisters of Battles being killed is very disappointing. What they could have done is made them turn to chaos with five main orders. Though Mars is converted into a massive necron type world thanks to the Void Dragon waking up, Titan is basically the last hold out for the imperium in Sol with The Grey Knights, Custodes and Inquisition being there. Orcs and Tyranids ended up fusing together creating a literal devourer of worlds. The Blood Angels fell to ruin, The Imperial Fists were the last on Terra fighting off the demons pouring out the warp rift with countless sons of Dorn being given a direct order from the chapter master to “dig in” and “close the fist until further orders are given”, The Black Templars turned into a force of just pure evil. The Dornian Heresy Tis one of the best examples of fanfiction I’ve seen, because it’s not written as a fanfic but as a spin-off, meaning that there’s a lotta room for improvement, unlike a finished story on Ao3 or Fanfic Net.
    As I see it, a couple things could’ve been done a little better.
    Angron should’ve kept the nails yet, without needing to kill his adoptive father, found a way to retain his nature as a healer while also being a berserker-using his abilities of healing to essentially equalize his pain, even if he can’t undo the agony, in a meditative state.
    Sanguinius being tricked into Nurgle’s sway, while enjoyable, feels a little like a cop out? Every Primarch is a master of most everything, with each one specializing in something or other, meaning Sanguinius could’ve been experimenting with his own gene-seed to try and undo the flaws within (like the 21st Founding wanted to), and as he kept failing and failing and failing…he fell into despair, only to hear Nurgle’s sweet whispers. “You’re not wrong, my boy. You are beautiful! You are strong! Don’t hide your differences from the others…show them with pride. Smile, you’re never fully dressed without one.” And as he kept hearing these whispers, he’d begin to taint his gene-seed with alterations, on purpose.
    Corvus being forced to follow Tzeentch, makes total sense. I accept this entirely, yet Vulkan being nihilistic in the way he is…feels wrong. My mentality would be Vulkan’s chipper demeanor and pyromania push people away, leaving him alone and miserable, hence why he swears fealty to Big E without complaint. Still, he finds nobody wants to be his friend, despite everything he does to be likable. He’s not disfigured, just big and built different, so he becomes disillusioned with the Imperium. “I joined this great armada and find brothers among the stars, only to be shunned, ridiculed, by those who would fight by my side…I only sought companions. I only sought sons. Now, I shall have sons, but upon the Anvil of War will they be forged.”
    Guilliman leaving, however, should’ve been fueled by Lorgar’s acts against Erebus and how unacceptably brutal they were. Roboute’s a fair and pragmatic man who doesn’t do things maliciously, so to see how awfully a traitor Twas handled by his brother…would certainly send him to separate from the Imperium, return to Ultramar where such barbarism Tis unheard of.
    Ferrus being corrupted by the C’Tan and the Necrons Tis so good. It works so well!! Luther winning works as well, yet I *really* prefer the idea of the Lion actually being a passive practitioner of Chaos worship and him remaining loyal nonetheless. Like, imagine if Lion was loyal to the Emperor yet, having survived on Caliban for so long and known only Chaos corruption, he worshipped the gods without being evil about it! Chaos isn’t wholly evil, as hath been discussed before, so to see a Primarch with Chaos in him yet a healthy balance of it…sounds really cool, and it would work nicely for who the Lion is: incorruptible! He’s not corrupted, he’s simply balanced, but unfortunately blind to the sickness in Luther’s mind and thus dies at Luther’s hand, far out of Imperial space thanks to the Black Templars shoving out any trace of Chaos from the Imperium…unaware that they sentenced a loyal Primarch to death and ensured that the formerly loyal Dark Angels would fall to Chaos’s wickeder side.
    A lack of Sororitas makes no sense to me since Lorgar has entire planets dedicated to worshipping the Emperor, and every soldier would be a devout worshipper as well, so having the Word Bearers select people to either become Sororitas or future Astartes…would make the most sense. Hell, maybe they’d find plausible candidates for Custodianship!

    There's also the Roboute Heresy which was just as interesting with some more believable ways they became what they were. Like Vulkan finding out early he was immortal and it made it go to his head, Slaneesh corrupted Blood Angels into getting high off of blood and Ferrus falling into Nurgle and always gets horrified whenever he sees his hand reminding him of how he used to be.
    As for loyalist theres Conrad who ended up being adopted by a woman who instilled a strong sense of morality, Mortarian got to kill his adopted father on his terms, Lorgar was raised by a persecuted family and grew up to be an affirmed atheist like the Emperor after witnessing atrocities in the name of religion, Magnus being allowed to follow his passion but with discipline and restrained in turn that allowed him to save Horus and Fulgrim from demon corruption.

    If I had the time and money this would be a super fun conversion Project.
    One thing I think would be fun using Gundam/Tau bits would be an Emperor of Ultramar Guilliman in his own personal mech suit with an energy sword. Kind of like a mirror of his current 40k self.
    I would include two shackled/enslaved Tau carrying Ultramarine banners at his feet.
    And can you imagine White Scar noise marines? On bikes made for peak exhaust noise like douchbags riding through a residential area at 2am.

    Only thing I would change is have the Blood Angels go to Tzeench because Sanguinius tries to stop the future from happening and leans more into his foresight. Have the 'Istvaan' event happen with Ferrus Manus still dying but is saved by Nurgle. And have Raven Guard tainted as Chaos Undivided birb monsters from Dorn.
    Other then that, this was pretty well thought through.
