Battery upgrade to 20v Black & Decker
My lead Power Wheel driver thought the Dune Racer was too slow, so it was time for an upgrade to a pair of 20v 4Ah Black and Decker batteries. I’m using B&D because I already have several B&D 20v tools and batteries. I only needed to buy the adaptors to prove the concept.
I went with a double battery setup, for extra range/time and to slow the individual battery drain rate.
If it works, I may buy a couple 20v 6Ah batteries for a further upgrade. I don’t think there will be any more room in the battery compartment for larger batteries… if they exist.
If you don’t currently have B&D 20v, don’t forget to get a couple chargers.

I've burned out the motors on 2 of my kids ride ons,
Turns out the they both had 6v motors which got cooked from one session.
Think I'll run a step down converter when I get the new motors fitted.

The 6v cars are usually one-wheel drive? What voltage batteries were you trying?

@robertveldman1901 yeah they're both 1 wheel drive. Dewalt 18V 5ah batteries were used.
I want to upgrade the motors to 12V and add a second one to the car. The other is a 3 wheel motorcycle that only has a space for 1 gearbox.

@@craigsanderson1667 Yeah, I had ended up with a couple 6v Batmobiles. They couldn't hardly drive on the grass. I gave one away, and keep one for the really young kids, since it's easy to walk along side.

Hi Rob! btw thank you sharing your setup! I have a 4x4 two seater jeep with 4 motors plus 1 motor for the steering (remote control) currently with the original 12v 7ah x2 (connected in parallel). Our car like you said, has LED lights front and back, radio with music.... I really want to do this setup... but since my jeep is for 12v batteries, cant the motherboad get burned or something like that? or is the 30amp fuse on the speed controller that i will add as well stop any problems to burn the motherboard? because last thing i want is to have problems re-ordering the motherboard that might not even be easy to find.. what about the motors? can they stand the extra voltage? (but the motors i would say its easier to buy as opposed to the motherboard for this specific car.. any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Burning up the electronics is exactly my concern. I can't think of an easy solution. And I did mention my concern of the motors, but I also think the motors are relatively easy to upgrade/replace.
I don't think it would be practical to run two separate voltages: using a separate 12v battery or a transformer.
It'd be complicated, but you could consider rewiring for 24v. There are various kits available, such as this one:
