    The job satisfaction versus whacking a new door on - no contest
    I love all the intricate metal work as I did metalwork in high school ( can’t weld though)

    I know it's a total pain, as i've been cursing spending 3-4 hrs making the smallest patch panels, and it feels like i'd be better off just buying a better panel, but the stubborn part of me wants to learn and fix, rather than pitch and pay. Keep up the hard work, it's REALLY inspiring. I get excited every time i see a new datsun video pop up :)

    get some weld through primer and clean the area and spray the rear of the repair panels before installing them for good. You are spending a lot of time and doing really nice work but a few more cautious steps will ensure these repairs last a long long time.

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety

      You are right, I have done that for a couple of the patches, but I keep forgetting to do it.

    • @natalinowerty

      going to say the same, weld thru primer, then some cavity wax

    Sometimes, when I watch your videos, I imagine that during all the sped-up parts, you are actually swearing your head off, and that's why there's no audio. I think you must have a vast toolbox of very high quality expletives, and the experience and motivation to use them well, and with extreme frequency. Can you tell us what your absolute favourites are? Perhaps you have a soft-spot for "Buggery Bollocks", or "Billions of Blue Blistering Barnacles"? Let us know!

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety

      Haha, I save the expletives for the Fire Station generally. The high speed parts more cover up my terrible singing or whistling ;)

    Fantastic CAD design :D.
    You mentioned some Alfa waiting for restoration at another video. Some GTV (2000? 1750?) perhaps?

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety +2

      It is a 73 GTV 2000 that is very VERY rusty, so it will be one hell of a project.

    • @mcdick
      @mcdick Před 6 lety

      And they are getting expensive. About 10 years back i was looking for a project Alfa with my brother (altough he wanted 912). Call it 30 year crisis or something and had 159 as daily back then. GTV:s were like 5k, but they were sold instantly and they didn't come often for sale. I almost bought 1982 GTV6, but it was rather expensive, the head had crack and it insanely rusty. There were more holes than metal due road salt. I pussied out then :/. My father is decent metal worker and uncle is engine wizard, but it was just too much.
      Now the prices are up the roof. Now I've been looking at series 1&2 XJ jags with sixes, however renovating our old house takes couple more years, so no time or funds untill that's been done. Thankfully motorcycles are cheap to tinker with :D.

  • @truthseeker8483
    @truthseeker8483 Před 6 lety

    Could they be 260Z doors? Some of those models had rubbing strips along the door which could account for the small holes..That is interesting that Yamaha supplied the first engine and it was rejected....not a good decision.....although for the US market maybe it was....

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety +1

      That was the first I heard of it, so the 2000GT could have been the 240z. Although if it was it probably would have flopped like the 2000GT did.

  • @computiNATEor
    @computiNATEor Před 6 lety

    If all the metal has been replaced at one time or another, is it still an original door? Great work!

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety

      As far as I know, you can replace any or all of the removable panels on a car and it is classed as an original. Basically as long as the vin plate remains it is still original, but there has to be a line somewhere.

  • @Vet2241

    I know you enjoy working on this car, but I’m curious was there not a better Z car out there with not as much rust? Or was the rust found after you bought the car.....
