    its a DIY wooden sun bed build - i have been thinking for a while to try make a sun bed, a heavy duty one and for cheap. So I built this using reclaimed wood and fencing offcuts, the total cost was around 10 - 20 pounds (in fixings and hardware) so this really was a cheap DIY wooden sun bed build. After looking at many pictures of sunbeds i went for this design and it took me some time to work out the back rest adjustment setup, and how it was going to work and function nicely. this really was a budget sun bed build.
    In the hot weather a cheap sun bed is a nice addition to my garden, and in my opinion a smart wooden sun bed is a nice piece of garden furniture to both see and use.
    I used second hand treated timber to build this wooden sun lounger
    how do you think i did ?

      By breathing I mean the chemical used for pressure treating has time to air or it will repell my treatment a bit if I use water based I believe.

    Thanks RustyDIY for sharing this. Looks great and for once, very doable versus so many other videos that are over-complicated and look like they've been constructed in professional workshops with huge bits of kit. very inspired to recreate this. Cheers!

      ya no fancy tools used for this, but obviously with a workshop you could make this much much nicer but for a cheap sun bed its nice enough for me. thanks for taking the time to leave a comment i appreciate it 👍.

    A tip from me is to use the piece of the gang rod that you cut of instead of screws to hold the wood to adjust the angle of the backrest. Makes it run more smoothly. 5:10

    Maybe trying pre drilling for screws, then you wouldn’t split the wood. Also, not sure how strong those screws will be into the end grain.

    • @RustyDIY
      @RustyDIY  Před 2 lety

      ya defo i should have pre drilled but i was being lazy haha. the wood was fencing offcuts so wasn't to dry as it had been pressure treated. on the back bit the screws are something like 3inch 10s or just smaller in length and the wood is 20X45mm, so far its been a year now and there still fine iv had to tighten them where the wood dried out but otherwise good and im like 20 stone haha, also iv just left it outside all year not covered. non have broken yet, but as i say the screws are strong and the wood is strong.

    • @RustyDIY
      @RustyDIY  Před 2 lety

      i wasn't sure how else to make the back bit so it could sit flush but also move. maybe half lap joints. or rebated but then the edges would have been to big. do you have a suggestion im thinking of making another one but nicer.

    Great video. How much did all the wood cost please?

    • @RustyDIY
      @RustyDIY  Před 2 lety

      well the wood was all off cuts and second hand. the 4x2 came from an old shed base, the legs are old fence posts, and the top slates are actually of cuts from fencing. the batten is called either round edge or eased edge batten and its often pressure treated for outside use as its can be a fencing material. you may see the fence panels around there quite popular atm.

    What was the cost to make one of these loungers please?

    • @RustyDIY
      @RustyDIY  Před 2 lety

      It was all scrap material from fencing work so only really the cost of the screws. Round edge batton fencing is quite popular now and you end up with loads of offcuts and that's what the slats are. The main frame is 4x2 from an old decking or shed base (can't remember) and the legs are offcuts of fence posts. So the good thing was the wood was just offcuts but from pressure treated wood so it weathered well outside all year.

    @bayramdemirci5572 Před rokem +1

    What type wood is this?

    • @RustyDIY
      @RustyDIY  Před rokem

      the frame is 4x2 treated, the legs are fence posts cut up and the slats are treated round edge batten leftover from fencing. in regards to the type of wood i am not sure sorry.
